Yup, he has said a ton of nice things about him in the media, it was a nice eulogy of sorts. I think we’d expect that from most folks in his position, especially given that his children still owned the team.
My point is that Dorion would have been the first point of contact for much of EM being EM. I’m arguing less for your sympathies, and more lobbying for your common sense. First victim of his behaviour wasn’t mean as an amount, but point of contact.
It’s funny, PD just mentioned how this off season and season were the best times he’s had as a GM of the team. At first blush we look at all the moves and the rise of the young team and we can understand. After a quiet moment of reflection we consider what is missing.
I mean I guess, if you sign an extension and continually carry the monkey of another man on your back I guess you can be described as a victim, but I mean Dorion has been here for over a decade and accepted promotions and extensions and praised the man.
As far as Dorion as moderater compared to Murray - under Murray lots of the fan anger fell onto the coaches and players and I think that was intentional - coaches getting fired all over the place and players being sent out of town under clouds of anger Heatley, Alfie, Spezza. Dorion stood by his coaches and never let them be abused as Murray did, but they both definitely had their summers of Heatley and Alfie and Karlsson and Stone. The fan anger fell more on Dorion’s shoulders when he wouldn’t fire coaches and the owner who used to lash out at the coaches (Dave Cameron, Paulrus) started to point fingers more at the fans. So yes, was Ottawa management a gong show - please see my previous 7000 posts. But you have to judge them both - and I wasn’t a big fan of Murray either, so Melnyck has part of the blame but Dorion has to be responsible for his actions and divided loyalties - last year he said after his team finished last again and was out of the playoffs he’d “spend to cap if the fans sold out 41 games” and that statement showed how damaged the organization was behind the scenes, the problèmed owner was dead but his damaged and disrespectful opinions of the Ottawa fans legacy lived on in his GM.
Well not since you said this, earlier today.
Dorion and Melnyck had no story for Ottawa besides grievance and victimhood.
Yes there is seeing yourself as a victim of your own business practices, and being a victim of personal abuse.
I could get further into this in a post that will blow your mind, but it’ll take me some time to write so let me know if you want to read it first and have your mind blown.
