Great work by Dorion to rehabilitate the franchise - both on and off the ice - to produce such a robust round of initial bids. Nearly 1B sale price? Who could have imagined that a few years ago?

An inspired choice of GM by the late, great Eugene Melnyk.

You can do better than this. Your sarcasm is usually good for a few laughs.

Yep looks like will be the highest value an NHL franchise sells for to date.
That will be surpassed down the road.

Wow - the highest value ever?!?!?!

Turns out Dorion is an elite asset manager after all.

Your sarcasm meter isn’t working today lol.
Try harder or is that the best you got.
Seems like the facts are the facts.

Dorion has put an elite core in place, almost all of them signed long-term. One of the highest performing teams in the league over the last few months. At the same time the team's public imagine has been undergoing a massive rehabilitation; fans haven't been this engaged in many years.

Is it an accident that the team's value skyrocketed a reported 21% according to the unassailable Sportico?

In just a short 5 year period, Dorion has overseen the death and rebirth of the Ottawa Senators. We are primed for unparalleled success.

"When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in confederacy against him." - Bob McKenzie on NHL GM Pierre Dorion.

Yeah but he gave up way too many 2nd rd picks along the way. Fail.

interesting from 32 thoughts today is that Freidman has some people saying that the remmington group might not want to build the arena at Lebreton Flats and might have a different location in Ottawa

Next step is All groups will resubmit or affirm their bid price and the team will pick one to try and close with

Great news. We could have a new GM before the draft if that’s the case.

That's quite interesting, I'm a bit surprised that they wouldn't want to develop at LeBreton though, might be postering perhaps?

That is an interesting thought about a diff location. I guess its the real estate play that drives the deal. Sens are out in Kanata because of the real estate deal there. Same for Ariz when in Glendale. Hopefully fans find any other spot in Ottawa as good as those making the investment do if that comes true.

If i was about to build an arena at LeBreton, i would want to be sure there is a world class public transit system there that can move 20.000 people in and out in an hour reliably all winter. Otherwise that could become a very poor investment decision.

Its literally the only place where the North South and East West Train meets and its right beside two bridges to Gatineau. There is absolutely no better location. The Land is also going to be dirt cheap.

God please let’s not do this in this city, it’ll be a gong show. I don’t want the Sens to turn into a side project for a massive housing deal - if you don’t want them at Lebreton you’re out of the process please

Around Hurdman?

Or whatever is left of it. I haven't been out there in a long time!

It's really curious as with Ryan Reynolds attached to Remington, you have to think he believes whatever alternative location they have in mind is a good idea for the team going forward (if that rumour is even true)..

Ya i dont wanna play around with arena location especially with Lebroton so close to being finalized. If that means no Reynolds im ok with it. Don't know why Gary Bettman is pulling for these guys.

That doesn't align with what the Sportico guy said in the interview posted in #1311. That guy was talking about narrowing the field down to the top (4 or 5) bidders and then potentially doing a Best & Final Offer (BAFO). I'm only trying to point out the apparent discrepancy versus advocating who is right or wrong.

After searching, I think this is what Friedman was mentioning:

"One of my sources sent me a note saying and said, 'The next step in the process is what’s called a check bid, where they are going to ask all of the groups to resubmit after doing more work and affirm or raise their price. And then they will pick someone after their best and final and give them the opportunity to close the deal.' So that’s kind of where we are right now."

The Friedman piece overlaps with the Best & Final process, but the Sportico guy said there will be a step where the field of 9 bidders is narrowed down first to a shorter list.

FWIW, a BAFO is a common practice in procurement situations similar to this.

I mean there isnt anything remotely close to as good as Lebreton. Hurdman would be Kanata all over again. Nothing thats walking distance in fact id prefer it stay in Kanata over that location.

hurdman more central tbh. 5 min drive from DT, 10 mins from South keys, 5 mins from Blair/East 10-15mins from Orleans. Lots of room to develop bars and such in the area too. Wouldn't be bad at all.
