They got the donuts? Excellent....
I'm not so sure that is a good thing. For longevity, I mean.

You can build it fast, or you can build it well. Pretty hard to do both at the same time.

I'd take my chances on them building it fast compared to Claridge building slowly.

The speed of a build is more a function of how many resources they're willing to spend than quality.

If you have lots of money you can do both. Markham has been the hottest real estate market for the past 5 years. lots of buyers with very deep pockets.

So you don't think Andlauer wants to develop Lebreton and make some money off it??? All bids are considering the real estate development aspect.
Also hiring Marc Bergevin is a really bad idea.

The arena has to be at Lebreton, Remington with their ideas of an arena somewhere else to me is a nightmare / don’t even let them bid unless it’s at Lebreton.

This is Ottawa, I was alive for the first Sens arena and it was a joke. Landsown was a joke. Remington will be a joke too - we have enough on our plate with this team, going through another round of arena approvals is the last delay Ottawa fans need

Since the NCC moved to multiple parcels after RV Lebreton collapsed I’ve wondered how a new owner would make a new Lebreton rink viable without any of the additional parcels.
This is a concern. Do you know how far along they are in parceling? Is there any development opportunity for the potential new owner?

I just dont see how he can do it on his own or even as the front runner. This type of scenario worries me. Especially considering the rumored number multiple parties have bid.

I selfishly hope for Lebreton. It will be a few LRT stops for me. It will also be nice to have the aerial shots of the new rink on the river, backdropped by parliament hill etc. it will become part of the city’s identity.

It’s funny/sad how they do the aerial shots of the river and parliament for our home games and then cut to a rink surrounded by parking lots which looks like it’s in the middle of nowhere.
Its really not a selfish way to look at it. Its by far them most mutually beneficial location for everyone in the Ottawa Gatineau region. Ill be honest if the bidder isnt willing to build at Lebreton then I am worried about ulterior motives. There is not one sensical argument to put the arena anywhere else.

Lebreton > Reynolds

The location should be such an easy call. It's central. The transportation hub. Speed of moving people around was proved out during Bluesfest. There's a freaking plot of land on reserve for the rink. Lebreton is a cinch and a necessity to me. Everything just works with that spot. It's like lining up a 6 inch putt to close out the championship.

Royal Rink or Dey's Rink?

You're older than I thought!

Assen na yo!

It all started with the cow palace; what a nightmare. The baseball arena was a stadium nobody wanted or needed so of course it got built right in the center of the city - the hockey arena everyone wanted was built half way to Kingston

This city makes no sense - Lebreton will be a big enough nightmare throwing a curve ball at our city council right now to put an arena somewhere else would be like starting the pandemic all over.

RR is dead to me now

Yes, but Markham also looks like a cardboard town. All the tight builds and McMansions. There's not much imagination or creativity with the builds down that. Same with all those satellite trendy areas surrounding Toronto.

Yes, much worse than the architectural wizardry that Claridge has built at LeBreton so far.

God please let’s not do this in this city, it’ll be a gong show. I don’t want the Sens to turn into a side project for a massive housing deal - if you don’t want them at Lebreton you’re out of the process please
Markham has land available. Little further west than kanata :sarcasm:

This part was interesting:

The NHL is being tight-lipped about the sale of the Senators as it enters a pivotal stage with the contenders being separated from the pretenders and then a shortlist put in place to determine the next steps in the sale process.

I'm not so sure that is a good thing. For longevity, I mean.

You can build it fast, or you can build it well. Pretty hard to do both at the same time.
Ya, that's the old engineering joke.

So you are telling me that the new parts of Barrhaven and Orleans are so much better? Welcome to construction in the 2000's my friend!

I don't know if there's a time I've driven through new Barrhaven where I haven't gotten lost. Thousands of houses in rows all looking the exact same.
It is awful. My brother lives past Tenth Line and that area is somehow even more soulless than other suburbs.

When Blackburn Hamlet (represent!) is cozy, things are not good.
