For GSP 4 bidders are better than 3. Hopefully that's not what's going on here but yeah.

I can understand why they would bring along Sparks in the process, but at a certain they really do risk losing other bidders. If I were in their shoes, and GSP kept allowing Sparks to go out and fundraise again to match my latest bid, I would be just about ready to walk.

I thinks its all about trying to drive the price up while vetting the bids.

There should be no vetting at this point though. Whole point of a final bid is that everything is set in stone and the seller picks their preferred option.

Maybe as the seller you go back to everyone and give them a set amount of time to match the high bid or something but I would be pissed if I was the high bidder. Defeats the purpose of the process.

That’s pretty much been echoed by several insiders. Saying Remington’s primary goal is the arena isn’t some sort of hot take.

Remington pulled the exact same thing in 2012 when they wanted to buy the Coyotes. They pulled out late and the NHL wasn’t happy.
They were the first to talk to the Algonguin People about the land, they had a plan for the old arena after they moved downtown, they were moving downtown. This is exactly what happened before. The Desmarais bid was better in every way.. and lost. Then EM and Ruddy f'd it up. Was supposed to go to the second bid then...but NCC moved the goal posts. Here we are again.

echoed as truth? or speculation? ... unless they have a quote from the company. Making money might have had something to do with it ultimately as well. Reynolds seemed to be very into the hockey aspect of owning the Sens. My guess.

Reynolds would have been a minority owner and in charge of hockey ops. I'm sure if it was up to him the group wouldn't have pulled out, but he's not making the big decisions here.

Bettman really wanted Reynolds in the league. He also knows about Remington's not-so-great past with the NHL, which is probably why he was caught off-guard when Reynolds chose to go with them.

I got the sense it was more complicated than I bid 1b. I have 500m cash. Have arranged financing from x, y, z along with $___ from the NHL all amounts to be available by this date. Not sure what else though. Maybe there is a go forward plan associated with that ; roles , responsibilities; Not sure how the debt gets handled.

Can’t see him being in charge of hockey ops.

He wouldn't have been in charge of hockey ops.
Not hockey ops as in management (poor choice of words by me), but he was going to be the face the franchise in terms of presentation and probably would have a huge input in hiring personnel.

The fact that he's not interested in joining anyone else probably indicates that he was getting a fairly large role (that only Remington was going to give him) in the franchise.

I imagine that he also has his tail between his legs, so to speak. He was advised by the NHL to not marry a group, then went ahead and married a group that had a history of doing exactly what they ended up doing in this situation.

He'd be the guy in charge of the Welcome to Ottawa Doc for sure. That's the primary reason he'd want to be involved, and the reason Bettman desperately wants him to be involved.

No way would Reynolds have been in charge of hockey ops.

...those jobs are reserved for geniuses like Nick Kypreos.

I just want this process to be over. There is no way that the Neko Sparks group should be in the running anymore. Its a joke and its all smoke and mirrors half his business's arent even real.

Andlauer seems like the only one that makes sense at this point.

Too bad about Reynolds but I dont really care. Just want to stability. I also dont like the idea the team is getting sold for such a high price, it makes no sense and its going to be hard for any group to build a rink if they pay that much for the team.

I agree with the above, but would add that I think the Kimels would be a fine outcome as well.

Yeah if i’m another bidder i’m telling GSP to get on with it. This has already gotten ridiculous.

If we have a top bidder that ends up pulling out bc of the f***ery, it would be a terrible look on GSP
They probably are the highest bidder.

I like to think they also wouldn't be foolish enough to pay what they're paying and continue to flounder out in Kanata. They need this team to thrive, not just survive.

They probably are the highest bidder.

GSP: What's your bid?
Sparks: 1 billion dollars!
GSP: Really? Oh thank God. You have a billion dollars?
Sparks: No.
GSP: Oh.
Sparks: But I can get it.
GSP: Really? By when?
Sparks: You know, whenever.
GSP: You promise?
Andlauer: Uh, I have 950 million dollars right here.
GSP: The bidding is at 1 billion dollars.
Kimel: I also have 950 million.
GSP: Sirs, the bidding is at 1 billion dollars.

RR would have been the face of ownership on the hockey side of the ownership group. Not “hockey ops” but what do you call that? The new Melnyk (puke) but without all the Melnyk. That’s what I tried to say once, I think that’s what other posters are trying to say. He would probably would have hired an actual POHO. Oh, and made documentary. I wonder if all the footage already shot will ever surface??

I would say losing RR and this process dragging on would be just another day in the life of a Sens fan, but last summer was pretty fun. So was the snagging of Chychrun from the shadows.
