Idk, I kind of grew some respect for Sundin with the way he screwed Toronto by refusing to waive his NTC when Toronto was going to miss the playoffs, then signed with Vancouver in the offseason.
He was also a guy that I felt like we hated simply because he had success against us. He wasn't a particularly antagonizing player imo. I find that's easier to respect as the years pass by and the rivalries fizzle out.

I admire be to be like y'all one day. I'm too petty to ever like Sundin

I got the impression that the Reynolds group wanted more land from either the NCC or the City. I thought this was mentioned in an article (Garrioch?) somewhere. Then they asked for exclusive arrangement to negotiate getting the additional land they were pursuing. That sure seems like the real estate component was important to them. I can see why GSP would be motivated to turn that down because they want a competitive bidding process.

I also got the impression (from reading articles as I recall) that the other bidders were going to stay in Kanata.

Really finishes on a down note

Only way
If that's the case than f*** the Kimels.

???

At least Sundin read the induction speech for Alfredsson so that is worth something.

At least the myth of Gary Bettman being some great chess player who doesn’t allow leaks is dead.

This process seems to be quite a gong show.

Neko Sparks is probably not even actually named Neko Sparks. Apostolopolous or whatever is bidding on any team that comes up in any sport but nobody wants him. And Andlauer doesn’t seem to have very deep pockets.

“Robust” interest… sure.

While all four groups are still in the process, Postmedia has been told bids by Toronto billionaires Steve Apostolopoulos, Jeffrey and Michael Kimel, and Michael Andlauer have moved to the forefront.

Sources say officials from GSP have been on the phone with all three groups several times a day and have been combing through documents.
We’re led to believe the bank is going back and forth with the groups led by Apostolopoulos, the Kimels and Andlauer to see who will pay the highest price.
The speculation is Apostolopoulos, who made a $6 billion bid for the NFL’s Washington Commanders before they were sold to Josh Harris, was the bidder that’s prepared to write a $1 billion cheque. ... If that’s the case, it’s up to Andlauer, 57, and the Kimels to determine just how much they want to own the Senators. ... Not only do they have to dig deeper in their pockets to pony up the cash, but they also have to decide if it makes financial sense to do so. That may be what both are wrestling with right now.

Garriochs latest article basically makes it sound like Apostolopoulos made the largest bid, which was “clean” and concise

Andlauer and Kimel will either need to increase their bid or merge to win

I think for us this is best case scenario. Apostolopoulos is filthy rich and a Kimel + Andlauer sounds like a dream outcome from a financial and hockey ops point of view

Bruce with a couple of interesting tidbits in his radio interview.

- Andlauder has stated that he doesn’t want to overpay for the team (great sign)

- Sparks group came in with a strong offer of $950M

- The Kimels want it really bad.

- Aposto bid is really clean as it’s only him and his brothers

- Dubas and Spezza linked to the Kimel bid

- The Weekend has put up substantial money with the Kimels and wants to be more than a spokesperson. wants to make the sens a global brand.

If Andlauer doesn’t wanna pay up what others are I hope he doesn’t get it. As a shitty man once said you gotta want to play in ottawa to play in Ottawa

He'd be the guy in charge of the Welcome to Ottawa Doc for sure. That's the primary reason he'd want to be involved, and the reason Bettman desperately wants him to be involved.

Not the primary reason no, but definitely an added bonus.

Sounds like Andlauer should get on a red-eye to New York and bow at the altar of Blake Lively to get Ryan Reynolds to join him. He probably needs the additional $150-200M of capital, plus public favour, to get this across the line. Partnering with the Kimels would, you'd think, be less attractive since he'd get less equity.

It could either be:

• 40% Kimels, 40% Andlauer, 10% Jeff York and 10% Melnyks
• 60% Andlauer, 20% Reynolds, 10% Jeff York and 10% Melnyks

Revised power rankings:

1. Kimels + Weeknd (and maybe Dubas, Spezza and probably Alfredsson?) - Sounds like a pretty darn good setup for a hockey + entertainment revitalization in this city.
2. Apostolopolous - Deepest pockets and probably most bullish to get a downtown arena done asap. I watched a few interviews about his interest in the Commanders and he was pretty upfront about the real estate play. Bet it's similar here.
3. Andlauer - Seems to be the most frugal and I'm getting the vibe that he's the owner who's "fine" staying out in Kanata. From what I've heard he's a great dude and passionate guy, but the others bring more to the table.

I have been super indecisive with my power rankings lol.

Keep going back and fourth between Kimmels and Apostolopoulos for 1, and 2.

After the Martian rumour I started accepting Andlauer and getting hyped learning about how much he cares about winning, but now seeing him being financially cognizant scares me that he might impose a budget in some years and I f***ing hate that word. There should never be a budget. When you are rebuilding you should be using your cap space to acquire firsts with bad contracts.

Right now my rankings are
1) Kimmel / Weeknd
2) Apostolopolous Family
3) Andlauer / York

The bidders are already angry, but I doubt anyone is pulling out of a billion dollar investment because they have to wait a week or two longer than they should. The other three bidders aren't dumb enough to believe Sparks ever had a chance at getting the team.
Do we actually know that the other bidders are angry? Has that been reliably reported? And if we don't know for sure are there at least credible rumblings that it's so?

A source said Wednesday the Kimels and Andlauer may explore a merger to buy the Senators if they don’t feel they can beat the highest bid.

There’s a belief they’ve had discussions about that possibility in the past and may be ready to explore that route again.
Interesting…I don’t really see Andlauer going from owning 20% of the Habs to becoming another minority owner though.
