I am in my early 30s and Bailey was a household name when I was growing up. Do the vast majority of the people buying tickets to Sens games know who Bailey is? I would say yes.

Not saying it would change anything but I would say he is a more notable name in ownership than Andre

Or maybe I am just old :p
I'm almost 30 and I only became aware of him well after his prime (like in high school late 00's). De Grasse is going to be a more recognizable name for a lot of people. Most people aren't looking up Olympic stars from before they were born.

So no leaks today as they are still determining preferred bidder.

Really dragging this process out
The process does take time to complete. I suspect it will be something like the following: First the bids must be reviewed and clarified. Then a winning bid must be selected by the owner (Melnyk' daughters) and supported by Bettman. Then negotiations occur to sort out any details and issues and then finalize the agreement of sale, which can take weeks if not months (lawyers at work). Then the NHL Board must meet to approve the sale. Then the announcement occurs!

I'd like to take this opportunity to announce that I'll also be joining the Neko Sparks group.
I would like to join too. Who shall I call?

I like Mendes but it's kind of silly he would say that there's "shadow financial backers" for all groups when for most groups it's pretty clear where their financial muscle might come from...except for one.

Unless he went from making kickstarters couple years ago to billion dollar wealth, at best Neko Sparks is a front man for a group of rich owners who don't want their name out in public during the bid.

I really hope Mendes digs out on why some of these people don't want their names attached to the bid, instead partnering with celebrities to be their mouthpiece.

What’s a bit peculiar is Mendes has put out investigative pieces in the past, good ones at that. But has he done an ounce of digging on Neko Sparks and his seemingly strange businesses or where the financing is coming from? Perhaps I’ve missed it but I don’t remember seeing it. He seems ok to take what he is told at face value which seems odd coming from Mendes.

Also, I get it from his point of view. He has a direct line to an owner/potential owner for the first time, I’m assuming. I can see how as a reporter he’d be excited at the prospects of Neko Sparks’ group winning.

Either way, I don’t think its this big thing that Mendes is “carrying water” for the Sparks bid. He’s just putting out pieces on the info he’s getting from Sparks. At least we get some crumbs on one of the groups.

Mendes is obviously getting scoops from Sparks, and I have no issues with him reporting what he's told. Garrioch has been more in tune with the Remington and Andlauer groups, and he's reported what they've told him.

There's this perception that Mendes is a "real journalist" and Garrioch is a shill, but really, they're the same. They just talk to different people. They're both reporting about things that, at the end of the day, aren't all that important. So I'm not going to hold them to the same standard as a White House correspondent.

With that said, where I think one can criticize Mendes is how he treated the Snoop Dogg announcement. He's been someone who's been very outspoken about the problematic culture of misogyny in hockey (and sports in general), but when it came to Snoop - a celebrity who's built an entire career on the objectification of women, and if you follow his Instagram account, continues to use women as nothing but sexualized props - he went all fanboy. "Oh my gosh Snoop so cool everyone loves Snoop!" If Joel Quenneville or Stan Bowman end up back in the NHL, I bet that Mendes will write a much more critical piece about their past and won't just gloss over it.
we may find out soon:

When this process heated up in January, GSP, the NHL and the Senators were hoping to have a new owner in place by July 1. That would be a best-case scenario and we’re now likely looking at a deal that won’t close until late-August or early fall.

Key point at the beginning of this article

"The Ottawa Senators’ sale process has been pared “down to just a couple” groups heading into the weekend, a source with knowledge of the review process told Front Office Sports on Friday.

But another source later Friday countered that the process remains wide open."

I’m thinking that some celebrities wiuld gain more from being involved than what they can contribute.

Andlauer has some established connections to his own hockey people, but with the Kimels being a big Toronto family, I wonder if they’ve placed a call to Dubas and Spezza today…

I would wager that Pierre and DJ will be around for one more season while ownership completes a proper assessment and weighs its options.
