Bailey was considered the worlds fastest man at one point (100m world record holder)

I think he would have much more brand recognition in North America esp since racing against Michael Johnson
How many posters on here do you think were even born when he was winning Gold in '96?

I am in my early 30s and Bailey was a household name when I was growing up. Do the vast majority of the people buying tickets to Sens games know who Bailey is? I would say yes.

Not saying it would change anything but I would say he is a more notable name in ownership than Andre

Or maybe I am just old :p

Earlier this week, there was some legitimate hope that a preferred bidder would have been selected by now. But as we approach the end of the business day on Friday — heading into a long weekend in Canada ——it’s hard to imagine a scenario where we see a preferred bidder named before Tuesday. — Mendes

Nice use of vague emotional language. Being upset/disappointed at a claim =/= denying said claim.

Oh, Ian.
How is Ian pulling for any one group? Just because he seems to have been the journalist chosen to have some info leaked to in regards to the Sparks bid? Should he sit on info and not report it? Seems kinda silly dontcha think?

Would have a absolutely zero issue with it if he honestly presented himself as a mouth piece for the group. Relaying controlled info from your 'source' to your audience is not 'news' or 'scoops' - it's PR, plain and simple.

It's no different than what Garrioch does/did for Melnyk and co. No one has issue calling boo-boo a shill

Mendes is obviously getting scoops from Sparks, and I have no issues with him reporting what he's told. Garrioch has been more in tune with the Remington and Andlauer groups, and he's reported what they've told him.

There's this perception that Mendes is a "real journalist" and Garrioch is a shill, but really, they're the same. They just talk to different people. They're both reporting about things that, at the end of the day, aren't all that important. So I'm not going to hold them to the same standard as a White House correspondent.

With that said, where I think one can criticize Mendes is how he treated the Snoop Dogg announcement. He's been someone who's been very outspoken about the problematic culture of misogyny in hockey (and sports in general), but when it came to Snoop - a celebrity who's built an entire career on the objectification of women, and if you follow his Instagram account, continues to use women as nothing but sexualized props - he went all fanboy. "Oh my gosh Snoop so cool everyone loves Snoop!" If Joel Quenneville or Stan Bowman end up back in the NHL, I bet that Mendes will write a much more critical piece about their past and won't just gloss over it.

Capital gains on this transaction are going to be complicated. Daughters are only exempted from capital gains tax on increase in value during Eugene's life. Every valuation of the Sens have indicated their value increasing massively in the last year.

I wonder how CRA will see it, will they except a linear increase in value?
Are you saying that when Melnyk died, the value of the team was determined and the capital gain became taxable to Melnyk's estate?

Also The daughters would only have to pay capital gain tax on the capital appreciation since Melnyk's death?
