Seems like RR fault though, he picked a bid that wasn't likely to win when the NHL wanted him to stay neutral and then be added into the winning bid.

Why would he stay neutral if he was coming in as a legit investor and part owner of the club? He was never coming in to be a pretty celebrity face.

if Andlauer and Kimmels are 100M under the top bid i don't know if thats noise. 100m sounds nice.

Maybe if its 2 or 3M under the top bidding price you look at if its the best option for the franchise or not. but 100M USD in this economy that will get capital gains tax exemption ? That serves the Melnyk daughters, league, existing owners, galatico sports. and ultimately the team itself best interest.

Capital gains on this transaction are going to be complicated. Daughters are only exempted from capital gains tax on increase in value during Eugene's life. Every valuation of the Sens have indicated their value increasing massively in the last year.

I wonder how CRA will see it, will they except a linear increase in value?

Goldman Sachs working for free too I imagine.
Goldman has worked for MANY sketchy people. They themselves do MANY sketchy things. They are the very definition of mercenary and will work with anyone as long as they get theirs. They are completely comfortable bring at the top of a pyramid.

ANYONE who peddles crypto is sketchy. The inclusion of big Wall Street players with these characters does not mean its not a scam - see sub prime real estate crisis.

Disclosure: I work at a senior level for a company that was previously majority owned and now minority owned by Goldman Sachs and have plenty of first hand interaction with them.

No doubt lol. Banks work for bad people all the time.

But they get paid. My only point is that if he’s got GS advising then the money is at least there.

From your own link,

"A digital Canadian dollar would not be a cryptocurrency, also known as a cryptoasset or private digital currency. The value of cryptocurrencies—like Bitcoin—goes up and down quickly and often relative to the Canadian dollar. These currencies can have expensive transaction fees, take a long time to process and allow for limited recourse if things go wrong. That’s why cryptocurrencies are generally used as an investment rather than for everyday spending.
In contrast, a digital Canadian dollar’s value would not change because it’s simply another form of the current Canadian dollar, and it would be backed by the central bank in the same manner as cash. That means $10 in digital Canadian dollars would always have the same value as a $10 bank note"

hmm. first time with I'm seen any of our favourite journalists lean into the questions surrounding Sparks. He mitigates that a bid by saying "..but all bidders should be checked into" and "none of the bidders have the free cashflow to just write a cheque for 950m.

I can't decide if he's noting issues with Sparks' bid or helping by indicating "all bidders probably has partners in the background" and "who can just write a big cheque". Is he predicting they get the 'thanks for coming out' call today or just laying out the process.

Apparently we are going to have to wait until we know who the winner is to find out how they made their money and what makes them tick as a person.

Isn't it obvious that the fans have different levels of leery.

"Is this a deep pocket spend to the max guy; "
"will they flesh out hockey ops"
"will it be like old ownership without the crazy"
"will the Weeknd give a free concert"
and of course, "wtf"

I think we have seen the end of leaks (or in most cases, made up nonsense). It's brass tacks time and the league has probably reacquainted everyone with the NDA.

"But, I think each group should be held to the same degree of scrutiny."

This misrepresents what has been happening. In all cases, the level of scrutiny started at "who are these people and how did they make their money?", and in all but one case, a quick google answered those basic questions. In one case, it did not.
Google is not giving you the information the league requires
