I really don't care whether Snoop, The Weeknd or even Reynolds are involved.

Just want a rich owner who is going to allow the team to spend to the cap each year and replace our awful front office staff with competent people who can take the team to the next level.
Hoping the new owner helps us front load deals with absurd signing bonuses lol

Snoop or The Weekend can't do that. Their effect would be more like Matthew Perry wearing a Sens jersey on Friends.

Assen na yo!

What an odd assertion. I'm pretty sure either of them will have the money and wherewithal to have someone make a tv show about the team. WtW basically created a template for the to follow.

Just really weird to say that only one person is capable of putting together a documentary TV show. Is Reynolds the only person alive that has been involved in a documentary style TV show? No? Didn't think so.

A better framing of the argument is they could but aren't going to.

If a WtW style show could be done by Reynolds on the Senators, it could turn the franchise into a global brand and drive huge attention to the league outside of North America.

Snoop or The Weekend can't do that. Their effect would be more like Matthew Perry wearing a Sens jersey on Friends.

Assen na yo!

Best we can hope for is Snoop or the Weeknd to release a sequel to this banger:

Yes, because making a hit tv documentary is easy. That explains why tons of tv documentaries are made that don't become hits.

Or maybe you just believe that some random tv documentary that no one watches will create the same interest in the Senators as the WtW phenomenon?

Hell, Snoop or The Weekend have to convince someone to want to broadcast their hypothetical show and promote it.

How many people have turned a completely unknown sports team into one known worldwide on the basis of a tv show? If it was easy, why haven't other people done it already? It's because it's a hard thing to do and just because someone has the money and wherewithal to try doesn't mean they're going to succeed. In fact, they likely won't.

I'm also not exactly sure the NHL is going to be ok with the Reuben family's connection to the Saudis when it comes to the Sparks bid. The public controversy could be a headache for Gary.

Idk man, did Reynolds and his team have anything to do with the F1 series that is insanely popular for a sport that is waaaaay more niche than soccer globally? Would WtW be as popular as it was had the F1 series not paved the way?

Why are you assuming a Reynolds documentary about our team will be as compelling or globally popular as WtW is? The baseline global popularity of hockey isn't even in the same conversation as soccer. And why assume that another creative team couldn't follow the model that wtw set out? Or maybe it really is just about Ryan and Rob leading it. What if it was really Rob that drove people to the series and not Ryan if that's the case?

Whatever your opinion, maybe the more relevant point I should have made is: a documentary isn't gonna change the product on the ice, or the success the team has. So to have a preferred owner based on their ability to be an executive producer is missing the forest for the trees.

Nothing really new in Mendes' latest piece. Reynolds highly unlikely to be part of new ownership group.

League may want to marry a few bidders. Should hear news this week.

Nothing we didn't already know.

Reynolds isn't an owner like Andeleur or Apostopoulos, he'd be a minority holder that the league hoped to be placed with one of the owners.

Bettman went and told all the bidders that the wanted Reynolds to be part of it, the fact that he went with a terrible group irked Bettman. The league desperately wants this documentary to be made.

The league will do everything in it's power to insert Reynolds, issue now is that the remaining bidders likely don't want a figurehead with a minority stake taking all the press and glory, which is likely the reason he opted for Remington.

Reynolds as the big guy at the table? Obviously doesn't work.

Reynolds as an added party to a bid, with the go ahead to do his work? My preferred choice.

the only thing I noticed was:

(At this point, however, The Athletic does not believe that Kitigan Zibi Anishinābeg — the First Nations community with an active title claim on the land at LeBreton Flats — is currently participating in this partnership with Sparks’ bid.)

Not sure why Mendes teased us yesterday saying he had "very interesting text exchanges", but nothing notable was said in his article.

Welcome to Ottawa would be huge. I've heard from multiple people that they got into F1 through the Netflix series. That is the biggest benefit of Reynolds. Although I think it would be awesome and hilarious if Snoop was involved to. He would pop up on screen and say something like "Welcome to Ottawa for shizzle my nizzle".

I feel Snoop turns everyhting into a clown show - I like clown shows. But I don’t see any real benefit to Sens fans of having snoop here - the benefit as he stated is more for people who don’t follow hockey will follow hockeyand I don’t care about them so I don’t care about that part of the bid.

I want the Ottawa Senators to win; not inspire kids in the Yucatan to play hockey. I honestly don’t care about growing the game from Sens stadium - not what I’m here for.

Don’t think there is any exposure/public outreach that could be brought by any of the celebrities that would be bigger than a Welcome to Wrexham style doc. Don’t think there is anything remotely close, which is why Bettman explicitly wants Reynolds in the fold.

Wrexham wasn’t even a footnote 3 years ago, now they’re one of the most recognized teams around the world, doing a NA tour with games against Chelsea, Man U, LA Galaxy, etc.

Different levels of teams and leagues, but it would be huge for both the Sens and the NHL as a whole.

The background stuff is what we pine for, this would be the most background the NHL has ever done.

Gary Bettman is an idiot. He wanted to place Ryan Reynolds into a bid as if he was a celebrity looking for Gar Betts to place him on the red carpet with his friends

Ryan Reynolds is worth $600 million and has better international access at every level of power then Gary Bettman has.

Ryan Reynolds should be placing Gary Bettman with ownership not the other way around. Gary Bettman is an idiot - he treated Reynolds like an actor with a dream instead of a media mogul with burning ambition

I'd like to see him get back in the picture. He'd be great for this market imo
