If Reynolds is a part of ownership, he might be able to play a similar role Drake has for the raptors as a global ambassador. Not sure if Reynolds has as much star power as Drake (whom I can't stand as a Torontonian for what its worth), but he can help in upping the team's brand and making them more popular.

For months I kept coming across posts stating 'no one would be interested in this team. Who would want come to come to Ottawa to lose money?'

LOL
Ya, even that recent Garrioch article listed a number of different potential owners all of whom seemed wealthy enough and plausible. I remember saying that owners would treat team ownership as an investment like a stock and wouldn't be overly concerned about small losses in some years as long as the asset was worth a lot more years down the road when they sold it. Thankfully this was correct and the "no one wants a NHL team based in Ottawa" crowd were full of it.

Remember the good old days when we were told the team was absolutely not for sale and who would be interested in them if they were since they lose money and would be on the hook for tot just 600 mil for the team but another 600 to build a new arena?
I remember vividly

Pretty sure the Terry Matthews number is a typo -- should be 1.69 billion.

Also believe the Shopify guy has taken quite a bit of a haircut down from the 11.86 billion number.
yes for typo

Most people in movie industry are rich but not that rich compared to people like Greenberg, Matthews, etc..

Would be so good if he got them to replace Spartacat with Deadpool as our mascot.

agree with all of that. I like you didn't include Shopify boy, which should be banned as a discussion point :). Something new since the original run at downtown. The city should be a lot more interested in partnering as they look at re-imagining downtown. that could be anything from actual money to property tax abatements etc.

OT: I always wanted the team to take over a block in actual downtown - think Maple Leaf Gardens. That's more from personal taste I suppose, but near some current light rail station - hell, I've never used it, but maybe even tunnels from the station into a rink. Bars and restaurants would either already be there or pop up immediately. They could still build in condos if they want. Feds sound like they want to unload some office space.

That said, I'd roll out to the flats in any event.
Well yeah, Shopify people want aboslutely nothing to do with this, for sure. As of Saturday night, there were 7, according to a business associate friend of mine who had lunch with Erin Crowe that week. Apparently she had quite the cheshire grin when Reynolds name came up. Very smiley and did say that he has some "friends" to come along, and emphasized the word "friends". That could either be Hollywood types or maybe I'm thinking Matthew Perry. She was pretty tight lipped but very relaxed. My gut feeling is it will be Desmarais group.

Lutke is worth about 90% less than that. Check out Shopify share prices in the last year.

I’d imagine whatever group wins will try to bring Reynolds in regardless. Imagine a Netflix series on the Ottawa Senators just like they did for his soccer team in England?
There are NO soccer teams in England they are called FOOTBALL teams.
Also Wrexham are in Wales.

Does anyone know the process for how a team receives bids? Does the board of advisors go through each offer? Does the NHL take part in that process? Does the NHL oversee the entire sales process? Just wondering, from a technical perspective, if there's any info out there on how these things proceed beyond "showing interest".

I'm super confused on the Aviation Gin thing, isn't he still an owner? So that 600M doesn't go into his net worth, but to the board of investors in the company or whatever?
They did sell it and no one knows his portion, but it is rumoured to be 20-25%. I think his net worth is probably higher. But the thing with actors is , due to their guaranteed income, they can borrow a shitload. What over head does he have from a 20M USD payday on one film? Goes without saying he will need huge partners, but if they all have to chip in some equity, he could easily come up with 20-25M cash, plus the ability to finance hundreds of millions on his own accord. Still not enough, but let’s not forget the massive equity he has in Mint Mobile as well.

I think his net worth is probably closer to 250M

It will be submitted to Sheldon Plener, and I assume it will only be the team and current arena. The whole Lebreton thing is not involved but obviously affects the valuation.

Back in 2003, i erroneously received the offer to purchase the Senators on my fax machine! True story

I'd imagine they'd simply call a lawyer.

His value to a bid is virtually immeasurable because of his marketing and promotional savvy.

As much as i love Ryan Reynold if one of the other group has one of those Saudi multi billionaires who just want a sports team as a toy that they would put infinite cash into, i would much appreciate them to own the team LOL

If only we could somehow monetize every time a poster complains about our attendance, we would have infinite cash reserves ourselves to purchase the team.
