Over There
Ryan Reynolds was on Fallon tonight. Confirmed he wants to buy the Senators! Obviously he admitted that he'd need big financial backers.

Whatever group buys the Sens would be stupid not to have Reynolds apart of it. The marketing and exposure alone that he would bring would be incredible.

The marketing and exposure he would bring for the entire NHL would be incredible.

Smart move by Reynolds. He puts it out there that he wants to be part of an ownership group, now he just has to sit back and see which group offers him the best deal to be involved

A group would be dumb as f*** not to get involved with Reynolds. He’s free advertising. Plaster his face everywhere. Sens merch in movies. (It’s a little more difficult than that). I bet the old rich dudes are jumping at the bit here

Lets sell the team to a group with Ryan Renolds, The guy from Circue de Solei, the guy from Shopify and lead by Alfie.

Sale of the franchise will go to the highest bidder, that meets the conditions set out by the current owners and the NHL.

The way he spoke in the interview makes me think he likely already has all or part of the consortium in place. We've all read the rumours about Bettman preferring to have one majority owner though, so I wonder where that would leave RRs group.

What a wild time to be a sens fan.

I still can’t believe the Melnyk cloud is lifted doesn’t feel real

I think we should stop with mentioning Melnyk in this context. I agree that the new owner(s) are what's needed, however let's not sound like we celebrate the fact that he passed away. Likewise, let's not forget that he did save the team back when he bought it. We had some issues with him, but whatever it was, it's over now. Let the man rest in peace, we didn't agree with some of the stuff that he did, but he was a human being and not really a bad guy. Did we want him out and to have a better suited owner? Yes! However, he did have passion for the game and he did like being a part of a community and Ottawa Senators. There's much more serious crap in this world to bitch about than Melnyk and his stubborn decisions and wild interviews.

In the same sense as we shouldn't be celebrating his death and we should be acknowledging the good he did, there's also no problem with acknowledging the harm he did to this team and the cloud his unfortunate passing lifted from the team. We're all just dealing in established fact here.

I mean we have all wanted new owners for a decade,

but this is the most epic possible outcome - could have never imagined

Sens are cool again

Crazy that’s two movie stars that grew up down there. Tom cruise spent some years on innis road
Matthew Perry as well (most commonly known as Chandler from Friends). Ryan Gosling also spent years in Cornwall (close enough haha).

Unfortunately real life accounts say otherwise. I dont think anyone is celebrating his passing or minimizing what he did when he bought the team. Ignoring his behavior and how he treated his employees and the fans who have done nothing but support his team is not the way to go about it either. Ignoring history is dangerous and can lead to it being repeated. Its a massive relief that he is no longer the owner of this team if you care about it.

Reynolds is a dream situation as long as his backers are legit. A partnership with the Desmarais family and Alfie would be the dream scenario.

I know what you're saying, I just don't like the idea of "we're so lucky" attitude after he passed away. If he sold the team, then yes, by all means, but to me the bottom line is he died and I don't really see that as a positive thing. It's not like he was Charles Manson or Bin Laden. We can still talk about the facts, and one of them is that he also saved the team by buying it back in time. And, no, I was not his fan at all in the past 10 years, trust me. I don't know, maybe I am getting soft as I get older :-D

I know bert, it's just we are talking about someone's father here, who relatively recently has passed away. I had family members who were acting stupid and I still never said "it's a relief" when they died.
