I have always loved how Kerfoot/Nylander works, I don't understand it at all because it shouldn't, but when they've been together they've been quite effective. Also, Nylander is the only line driver right now.

Alternatively, I wouldn't mind seeing Willy down the middle

Whatever chemistry there was between Marner and Tavares ain't there anymore. And that line is PAINFULLY slow too with Ritchie on there.

let's put Marner's line driving to the test and see if he can carry Kerfoot and Bunting.

I blame Keefe for throwing out Ritchie - Kampf - Marner in the last pre-season game and then tossing Tavares in there for the real games when they haven't played together once. Takes time to build chemistry.

Tavares is on the down swing of his career. It’s been awhile since he’s been a game changer. I never expect big goals from him because it rarely happens anymore.

on a positive note, I thought Bunting and Kampf looked really good! Both were all over the puck and competing hard all night.

Bunting has surprisingly good hands and poise with the puck as well.

jt and marner will figure it out, not too worried about whether they will produce in the regular season. they will (barring injury etc obv)

They need to tell Mitch to stop shooting. Give it up, just make him focus on what he's good at. He'll never be the double threat they want him to be.

Mitch's biggest asset seems to be point production via vibin' with an $11 million center. Whether that's peak John Tavares (2018-19) or Auston Matthews, the offense flows through a neat give and go game with someone who can really bury the puck.

But when we need him to carry his own line, be the play driver, he just doesn't always have the pure athletic combination of strength, explosiveness and separation speed to fall back on and manufacture something out of nothing.

There was also a sequence in the first when he had maybe 4 grade A touches in and around the net and wouldn't you know it he's feathering everything wide, trying to put things away with the softest hands or else blasting it wide. You just kinda need him to score some dirty ones and get on with the job.
