It's actually interesting. The poll on the canucks' board was about 90% against signing Lucic while the poll on the Oiler's board is about 80% in favour.

Which makes perfect sense. Vancouver is a team on the decline barely holding on with it's old core, while Edmonton is a team that has all it's pieces in place and needs to step up.

You sign a player like Lucic when your team is ready to compete, giving you that top line forward now for free, and you don't have to wait for a prospect to develop or make a trade. If Edmonton can be in the playoffs the next 5 years, they won't worry too much how how bad Lucic's contract is at the end.

Vancouver on the other hand, we're going nowhere with or without Lucic. If we sign him now, it just prolongs the mediocrity, and the anchor portion of the contract kicks in at the worst time when we should have a fresh faced team.

Lucic is good for Edmonton, but bad for Vancouver.

Chia is in #yoloswag mode right now.

I'll support my team with whatever happens, ya never know how it can all play out.

To be fair Colby Armstrong was almost ppg with Crosby so McD would likely make him worth whatever Chia throws at him.

Oh my...

Signing him until he's 35? He's a good player, and I think he'll play a top 6 level a bit longer than most seem to think but wow that could get ugly during the last 3 years.

I wouldn't mind if the majority of the money is during the first few years and trails off once McDavid needs a new contract. Would make it easier to stomach the contract. Not gonna see that however.

You mean he's good for Edmonton from Vancouver's perspective.

Milan Lucic instead of Taylor Hall in 3-4 years will look like the worst management decision of all time next to the Subban -Weber deal,

:)

Please Oilers, 7 yr deal . please.

Lucic just turned 28. He's not 30-31. I don't think his deal will be Clarkson/Brown bad at all. I also don't think Nill would offer Lucic 7 years, either.

I think he'd be a great add for the Stars, just not for 7 years.

Oilers probably will make the playoffs with him and Larsson if it does work out (though I wouldn't say it's a lock) ... but they'll have paid a heavy price for it.

IMO a front loaded deal would be the best so they can buy-out/bury the later years or ship him off to a cap floor team.

I actually don't see him as good for Edmonton either with that contract.
And I'm someone who really likes Lucic as a player. I just don't see him as having the skating speed to be a good player after another three years or so. That contract will be a major anchor for Edmonton in a few years when their young guys need the cap room.
The only team that I think should be signing Lucic is a team with a legitimate shot of winning the Cup in the next couple of years. Which is why I liked the signing in LA and think Dallas could make sense. Edmonton just doesn't fit, IMO but Chia has backed himself into a corner by trading Hall.

Do you really think any UFA signing his last big contract would sign for less than 7 years?

I'm Oiler fan and I want Lucic on the team.

I hope it's not for what those contract terms are. If it were, I would cringe but even then it would mean we were that much closer to playoffs.

If it is a 7 year deal, I would hope that the final 3 years or so have no NMC so we can deal with him if he declines. I would point out that there is no proof that he will fall apart like many are saying he will. His improved play in LA kind of shows this imo. Just like Byfuglien, he's just a great physical specimen. He hasn't lost a ton of time to injury. They both could have longevity because of their skill.

It will never be Hall for Lucic. It's Hall for Lucic and Larsson. Larsson was the main piece in that deal, Lucic is just the replacement for Hall so we could use him to land Larsson. Not a hard concept to understand. One for one, no questions Edmonton overpaid big time but the price to improve our D and land ourselves a #2-3 dmen with the potential to be a #1 guy was not ever going to be cheap.

With that said, Lucic for 7 years is a bad idea. 5 or even 6 years is the max I would ideally like to go. And 6.5M is an overpayment. Ideally, I wanted Oilers to get Lucic for 5 years at 5.5M but that wont happen

I am guessing he still isn't happy with their fans after 2011 and money being equal he'd prefer a team like Edmonton.

I keep reading about "lack of footspeed"

Lucic isnt slow... he is kind of awkward to watch, but he gets around pretty fast.
He played basically with Kopitar / Gaborik and Carter / Toffoli all of last year and dude was driving the play most of the time.

The value with Lucic, besides his hitting and toughness, is his net front presence...
He scored 20 but i swear another 20 goals were the direct result of his screens and front net disruptions.

Guy was a huge contributor to the Kings 100+ pt season last year.

I dont think he about to fall off a cliff as bad as some of you are predicting.
