Sebastian Aho for the Hart Trophy?

All I can say, fan of this org since 84-85.... been through a LOT.....

...is that while Aho is hands down the best player for the Hurricanes and definitely a smidgen IMO of attaining league elite player status... what he has that is elusive to great players is that character, personality and drive. He's everything that Eric Staal never really could be (put any player with Aho and they are better. While conversely Staal had everything and their dog audition on his line. The time it clicked the most is when Tlusty was a fire engine/piston for half season with Semin)... I digress.

However, do not over look the other players on this team that are all buying in this team and who also individually bring a LOT to this teams over all character. Like Williams. Like Faulk who's had a good bounce back season after seemingly regressing for two straight. All of this comes from professionalism, drive, starts with Brind'Amour and all the leaders on this team are the leaders for a reason - they know Brindy expects 150% every shift. Look at how a more committed Teravainen has been this season, apparently this was when pushed by Aho, who expects his teammates to push hard.
Aho is very driven and that elusive individual 'magic' that he possesses really allows him to stand out. You notice him pretty much every shift.
He was asked to shift to center this season. As good as he is - I didn't expect him to easily become a two way center. And while he is still learning the two way game, you cannot ignore that he learns FAST, another quality he has. Just keeps getting better, game after game. To the point now that yeah, he is short of dominant. Really exciting to see.
To be honest with you, this season is reminding me a bit of the 85-86 one where the Whalers got hot in the 2nd half and made the playoffs. They also picked up a certain John Anderson who went on fire and stayed on fire throughout their two series vs Nordiques and Habs. He scored 4 in the 3rd and clinching game of that best of 5 vs Quebec, iirc the final score was 9-4. Shades of Hurricanes lambasting the Habs in Montreal, circa 2002 (9-2, Dougie Gilmour freaks out/breaks glass)
Anderson was a mid season pick up iirc, similarly like a certain Nino Niederreitter. The latter who has simply slotted in and complimenting a new formed line of he Aho and Williams. Good chemistry allows for that. Otherwise, its "E Staal" or so many other examples of players who don't have that quality to actually be team players and make their teammates better.. McDavid, unfortunately was saddled with far too high expectations and at this point don't see him being a team player like that. Knowing what I know today and the precedent - revisit that draft, I would draft Aho 10 times out of 10. Choice between him and the supposed best player, yeah I'm going with the talented guy who has great pedigree and precedent to be a team player. Sometimes you miss developing that when you are young because you are just too talented naturally. Then you have a guy like Aho, talent, desire and hard work. Very cerebral player. And yeah...... extremely underrated at this point. However, I think the league is waking up to his awesomeness. Yeah, playing in Carolina he doesn't get noticed that much.... but make no mistake - the opposition? They ARE. They are talking about this kid.
Notice how humble/student he was at his first all-star game? Typically Aho. Next one, and there will be more almost certainly - don't be surprised to see him drive more and get more points. Still he did get some points.
Anyway. Thanks for reading. Aho for president!

Its hardly a stretch. It isn't about points. Its how the player helps his team be - a better team. Its all about drive. Determination. Character(outspoken) but at the same time quiet leadership (action, not words). If we look at the two squads yesterday, one team had spades of all that... the other, even with the most talented player in the world with them - don't know how to play or improve as a team. Its very sad. I would feel 'stuck' with McDavid. He may one day develop into a leader but her's being asked to do it far too soon. He IS their captain. Exclusively based on his talent. Aho is a leader but has/had been surrounded by real leadership and stewardship, every step of the way. He screams captain - but there is no rush for that with the likes of Williams Staal and Faulk, Slavin Pesce etc etc.... coaching, Brind'Amour is about as character of a coach you can find, although he is still learning too. All these guys have strong hockey IQ and its no wonder Aho has had success and conversely the team as well. Every seasons has gotten better and better, for he and the club since he broke in to the NHL. And those my friend, are mighty valuable FACTS.

The worse is that all the mistakes the Oilers have made developing are mistakes that are very hard to turn back on. Can you honestly see taking away the C from Connor? Would do him wonders IF he also found himself surrounded by leaders (and not 3rd line goons/tools). When you have half your payroll invested in 3 players.... CM LD and RNH. Lot of good that center depth is doing them.

The qualifications for the Hart are "the player judged to be most valuable to his team."

If they make the playoffs he should at least be up for consideration. He would never win, because he plays on a team that everybody hates and thinks shouldn't exist, and he's low profile anyway, but if we're going by the written standards for what the award is supposed to be about, he should definitely be on the short list.

Are you kidding me? Have you looked at who he plays with? Holy.

But my question was why he shouldn't be in the conversation.

Have you looked at how the guys he plays with were playing before he became the stud that he is? Kucherov's got an 18 point lead on everyone else on his team and practically resurrected Stamkos. The Hart convo begins and ends with him at this point. If someone overtakes him, that might change, but right now it's easily a one man race for the Hart.

Imagine if McDavid had support.

Anyways... Aho is a stud!
I don't get to watch full games of McD unfortunately. He is ridiculously good. I didn't realize how explosive he is with his first couple steps. 3 times last night he almost single-handedly scored on plays you'd guess there'd be no opportunity at all.

Anyways, great player. Good luck to y'all. How fun would an '06 rematch be. Oh, any chance you'd like to part ways with Draisaitl?

I believe Aho should be in the conversation. However, the front runner right now is Patty Kane. If he manages to carry Chicago to the playoffs, he is my #1 candidate. As far as Kucherov goes, Tampa's real MVP is Vasilevskliy. He changes everything for TBL. It's hard to be in Heart conversation when you are may not be the most valuable player on your team. Kuch deserves the Lindsay, IMO, though McDavid will probably get it. Which is fine with me too.

Hart Trophy is not awarded to the best player in the league but to the most valuable player to his team.

Every team has an mvp, what makes Aho ahead of other mvp players? For him to get a consideration, he needs to at least be top-5 in points and get his team to the playoffs.

Difference is, Kane is competing for the Art too, Aho is not.
