Klefbom - Larsson
Nurse - Russel
Manning - Benning/Petrovic

Vs

Slavin - Pesce
De Haan - Faulk
TVR - Hamilton

One of these is in another universe than the other.

Also, look at the forward depth. Yes Mcdavid has the edge in playing with top end talent - Drai. But with the exception of Nuge the rest of the team is pitiful lmao. Aho doesn't have that one other premier forward to work with but he has an actual NHL calibre roster to work with.
Klefbom-Larsson is not a bad D. I don't see how guys who don't play together matter.

Drai and Hopkins are both better than what aho has. He had ferland producing better than with gaudreau before he got hurt.

Mcdavid would do better if he had better dmen tho . But for forward help mcdavid has it better than aho

Agreed.

I'm an Oilers fan. McDavid has better support than Aho. I never said Aho was better than McDavid.

Sorry, I wasn't implying that... but I could see how that might have come across though. I was simply pointing out that the reigning Art Ross guy doesn't have that much support. He does have one of either Draisaitl or RNH to play with but the other winger might as well be me and the offence from the back end is average at best.

Anyways, sorry to have derailed the thread... the only reason I brought up McDavid is the discussion around the Art Ross... and the fact 97 is the reigning AR trophy holder.

Carry on.

Yeah Matthews / Marner aren't top 20 forwards & Rielly isn't a top 20 defense ....

Sorry man, I shouldn’t have brought them up. My point is that players generally need at least one full season of playing to a top-20 level before they can be called a top-20 player in the midst of their breakout season. Exceptions can be made for a guy like McDavid who was the clear best player in the NHL midway through the 2016-2017 season.

But Aho has been maybe one of the 20 best players this season. Then there are guys like Malkin and Erik Karlsson who haven’t been at that level this season, but who have earned a spot on that list based on past performances.

Aho was never supposed to be this good. Many had him as a worse version of Mikael Granlund. I think it's mostly because they started calling him Sea Bass. Which also happens to be a character from the Jim Carrey Movie "Dumb & Dumber". And that character happened to be played by an actual hockey hall of famer. Don't ask me how, but that talent probably rubbed off in some weird way. Don't know how else to explain a border line 2nd round pick making it this far...

I don’t know man, he scored 65 points last year. Which was his career high at the time. Those kinds of players don’t get called top-20 players unless they play for Toronto.

Yes, he did score 65 last season. Now he already has 66 points. Probably will score around 90 this year. Trend is getting up and fast.

To OP. That "sidekick" Teuvo been pretty good lately. They put him to second line now I believe. Also Nino has been really good signing. Carolina seems like a playoff team now.

Not only that, but McKenzie for instance didn't even have Sebastian Aho ranked in his final ranking for 2015(One of the reasons I don't take NHL scouts' opinion on Finnish players too seriously).

As for how good Aho is, in 2016 I said that Sebastian Aho will end up being quite close to Matthews. it doesn't look wrong, though they have rather different strengths and styles of play. At this point I wouldn't even be surprised if Aho ends up being better, to be honest.

Tells a lot about Aho what happened to Nino after trade. He simply just make players around him so much better. That's why I was suggesting Pulju to be snatched by Carolina. Not cause I trust him to turn his careers around but cause I trust Aho to do it for him. Aho is the smith and a carpenter and can use tools to their best.

Yes...and not to the mention Crosby, whose grace period in the top 3 extends at least another seven years or so. Regardless of actual production compared to peers. He is just that good :sarcasm:

Pretty obviously lmao.
That gold winning wjc team of Finland is funny to look at now.
Aho and Rantanen are the best of the bunch. Back then it was all about Laine and Puljujarvi

If you think afterwards Aho was best player on that super line. Pulju and Laine were underagers and had superb tournament too. Rantanen was best player for Finland on last 2 crucial games.

Nothing against the Hurricanes, but with the forward depth they've had this season 66 pts in 58 games and +20 is fantastic.

37 yr old Justin Williams is the teams 3rd best scorer. Aho has 14 more pts than Teravainen who is his most common linemate. The only forwards who have a solid +/- on the team are the ones who have played with him the most (TT/Ferland).

He plays 20 mins a game. By far the most on the team by forwards. Doesn't struggle on the dot like many young players do when playing C full-time for the first time. ES CF% almost 57 percent.

This all makes sense when you watch him. The guy is legit and i stand by what i said 2 years ago - he's going to win the Selke some day as a center.
