This team and management is way to "nice" to do that. And Kroenke is not willing to spend over the cap either. So it doesn´t really matter.

Lets wait and see if Lando can even come back and play at this level. Thats my biggest concern.
It would involve turning over a sofa cushion for Stan. They might have some insurance. The way to sell him on it is compare it to the cost of anyone on the Rams, Nuggets or Arsenal.

I only see huge question marks around Landeskog and Nichushkin at this moment. Very difficult to think ahead with those questionmarks unresolved.

At the moment I am thinking of EJ and Landeskog. Erik and done so much for this team for a long time. Hope Gabriel has a good offseason.

We were never going to go far with that depleted lineup. Some positive notes are that Georgiev could be what we were looking for in Kuemper and Grubauer and that guys that signed rich contracts are buying in and performing good which is a testament to a good culture.

This was a tough season injury wise as we all know. Even if you disregard Nuke and Landy, we had a ton of injuries. On the positive note, our big guys Rantanen, MacKinnon and Lehkonen all hit their personal best point totals. That's exactly what we need when going forward, as we will have to give up depth due to the salary cap. I was okay going into the season without a 2C, because we would get one at the deadline if nobody steps up. So what happened, or rather didn't happen, at the deadline was a real stinger. Georgiev as a goalie was good, at least as good as Kuemper and Grubauer were. I would want him to take one step above that to give us the advantage in goal. I'm very worried about both Landeskog and Nichushkin, as in will they ever even play for us again. Landy is the more replaceable one, as he was likely to slow down soon anyway and that contract would become a burden. We could use that 7M on that 2C instead, if anyone wants to come to Colorado anyway. Nichushkin would be hard to replace. He is in his prime and doesn't have as much wear and tear on him as Landy does. His contract turned out to be rather good because last season wasn't just an outlier. He actually scored at a better pace this season. Hopefully I'm just worrying for no reason and we'll have him back. As for non-core players, we will likely be saying our goodbyes to Compher and Rodrigues. At least if they want to get paid, since we can't dish out any more fat contracts. I think Newhook needs to be traded because Bednar has no faith in him. Playing 5 minutes a game on the 4th line is just a waste. We could get a good prospect back in a swap. This does, however, mean that we would first have to make sure we have the 2C locked in. On defense side, we are looking good with Makar/Byram/Girard/Manson quartet. I would still be open to trading Girard for another defenseman who's bigger and stronger in defensive duties. Both Johnsons could return for another year on 1M deals if they want to stay. In addition I'd like to either promote one of our prospects or acquire another depth defenseman from elsewhere.

Vrana and Tolvanen could have been had for practically nothing.

Totally embarrassing to lose to the Kraken.

Clean house

Vrana and Tolvanen may have helped get passéd the 1st round but they still weren’t gonna go too far. This team needed Landy and Nuke back to make another deep run but even then I’m not sure if they could without a 2C. For me it would make no difference losing in the 1st or 2nd round.

As painful as it is I rewatched Game 7 to see what I missed from the stands. Just really stands out how little traffic we got to the front of the net. The Avs need grit and net front presence from their 2C since Kadri like production is unlikely. Way too many shots were easy saves for Grub and shots that could have been tipped were just regular attempts. When a goalie is hot and stopping everything you have to change it up and force him to play the redirects and the shot fakes. Saw none of that and without good net front presence I see why it didn't happen. The first line would be so much better with a grittier second line that plays differently. Lehkonen is there, who can they get to go with him?

This is where we missed Landy and Nuke the most

You never know. Maybe the Stars goalie blows his groin 2 minutes into game 1 and they cruise through and then make a mockery of the Oilers again. Things happen. Not making moves "because someone might get hurt" is stupid. Wasting career years by MacK and Rants is stupid. Not maximizing the window is stupid. CMac is stupid.

The injuries and the Nichushkin situation were unavoidable, but the saddest part of this season is that we wasted MacK's final year of his honey contract. Everyone knew what the weaknesses were on this team going into the bloody offseason (2C) and we went the Draft, FA, and TDL without fixing the problem. In hindsight not paying Kadri was the biggest error possible. To fit him we should have done some combination of:

a) Dump Girard (for Cap)
b) Dump Johnson (Buyout/Trade)
c) Not sign Manson
d) Not overpay UFAs (+$250k for no reason for multiple guys)

Kadri's contract may have ended up a few years too many, but not signing him blew the best remaining year for our window.

100% front office fail.

Avs spent the whole time since the off-season 22 with the eyes closed hoping everything will be fine although the problems became obvious early. Waste of a season but we already won our recent cup, so I don't really care.

I think this first round with every empire falling shows how ridiculously tough it is to win the Cup. Tampa did with two shorten seasons which reduces the chances of sustaining injuries.

A lot of holes on this team, but I think the desire to win again will be there next season and that is just as important as finding a 2nd line centre. The desire to win puck battles, block shots, killer instinct, etc where I saw a lot of lazy plays by core players this season.

I see only two holes....2C and bottom-6 forwards. :sarcasm:

We should have paid Kadri, almost guaranteed another cup run
LOL. And no, no way we had made it out of the West even with Kadri. Landy would still had missed the season and Nuke would still been MIA. Naz wouldn't have changed much tbh.

Btw, i still expect a JTC 5x5 extension announcement in the upcoming days. Then it's time for us all to

I will be absolutely SHOCKED to see that happen.

The Avs know he's not good enough for that slot and he basically proved it down the stretch. Even though he's clearly Bednar's favorite, even at $3.5M JTC was mediocre for the majority of that contract.

Playing as poorly as his did past the TDL, signals to me that he was disappointed he wasn't re-upped by the team after his play up to that point.

JTC put up 10 points in 23 games after the TDL playing exclusively in the TOP-6.

He'll be someone else's problem July 1st - someone that wasn't paying attention.

Well guys, it's taken me a while to recover from the fact our season's ended, and I do apologize in advance about the negativity I'm about to write here (summarizing things in my view):

1. This season we were decimated by injury. Full strength, we are the best team in the entire NHL. We have elite players from the very top, right down to the very bottom. BUT, in my opinion, the whole squad learned how to deal with adversity, which will bode well into next season.

2. This season further backed up the fact we have the best coaching team in the entire NHL. Didn't matter who and how many players were absent, our system and culture carried us with that "next man up mentality".

3. Chris MacFarland showed me (learning under the best GM in sports - Super Joe), that he's an elite GM, not making short term, or rash decisions, that may hurt our ability to retain players like King Bo, Toews and others.

4. In my view, we have the best center and right winger in the entire league. We have the best defensemen in the entire league, with another top 5 defensemen developing. Our core is unstoppable. Next season, rejuvenated, healthy, our guys will come back HUNGRY - and I fear for the rest of the league in what will be our complete dominance. I see nothing but extreme improvement.

5. So many players improved exponentially. Talking Newhook (still so much potential ahead, too), Compher, Malgin, I thought Eller improved as the season progressed, Rodrigues, King Bo, Girard had an amazing year etc.

6. I think our recruitment / drafting team is probably the best in the entire league. Our college recruits, our draft picks (despite dropping to 4th in the draft etc) just know how to find absolute diamonds, that just have unlimited potential and ability - so that excites me.

7. We are winners. We should all get very excited for next season, because we are going to come out big, tough, hard, hungry, angry and with chips on our shoulders. So buckle in guys, the future is VERY bright for a very long time. Yes, we are out in round one, but it happens (look at Tampa !), but we are going to make teams next year suffer for that :thumbu:

Looking forward to Chris tinkering with our team this off season. We'll look a little different next season, but winners are winners, and cream rises to the top. My prediction will be top 1-3 overall in the entire NHL, and we'll grab the cup.

Cheers guys.

SeaEagles I love your positivity but…

The sting of the loss is heavily mitigated by the fact that we won last year. Yeah, it's a wasted season and we all wanted to see a new dynasty form, but lots of very good teams have come and gone without winning anything. Nashville won a President's Trophy but never raised a Cup banner. San Jose with Thornton and Pavelski never won either. The Lundqvist era Rangers just missed. To have even one Cup with this core is a pretty incredible accomplishment in this era, even more so to go on a dominant 16-4 run on the way there.

To have at least won the division with all the injuries is pretty impressive too, but the playoffs are a different beast and a second line of Malgin-Eller-Compher isn't going to win you anything no matter how scrappy you are. Nothing to do but reset for next year, do something about the center depth in the off-season, and hope the ridiculous injuries are behind us. Make the right moves and we're right back in the mix in the West next year.

Jk man, we love your positivity. It's needed around here sometimes with the overall doom and gloom we tend to get stuck in sometimes.

Hey mate, you are f***ing with us. There isn't a nanogram of negativity in that whole post. Lol!

But seriously, there must be a player or two that you don't want to see come back. You can let loose, you are among friends here.
