Very tough year, it was an uphill battle the whole way. Hopefully the FO can retool over the offseason as Bednar also seems to be asking for and get back to it after a long rest this summer.

Hope the boys get some good well deserved rest and get fit for next season and the office puts their eyes firmly back on the ball is all I'm sayin.

I never want to see this team do another Global Series ever again. Not at least until they figure out how to properly schedule it, and what they did this year most certainly was not proper. Pretty much every team that participated was adversely affected by the resulting schedule upheaval.

Not happy, but relieved. Game 7s always suck no matter what. I was ready for it to be over going into game 6.

If they score just two more powerplay goals somewhere along the line, there's a good chance the series is over before last night. The bottom six was no help offensively and the top guys scored plenty, but the finish has to be better in a seven-game series, powerplay or otherwise. Outside of some Toews heroics in game 2, the D corps was ass. No way all of them were that injured at the same time. It's ok to call a spade a spade and recognize shitty play during the most critical part of the season.

They need the time off, not just for injuries but to focus the identity of the team. I have very little hope that Landy makes it back before training camp. I also think that puts his career in jeopardy. If he plays another shift of NHL hockey they should give him the Masterson on the spot, because it will be that much of a miracle.

It was just fine in September. Once the bulk of the season starts there's too much noise in the calendar for overseas games to register as special. There's no point in punishing teams with minor league schedules.

So many downward vectors this year. Of course, losing Maxy was a gut punch. He was truly the soul of Avs hockey.

I hoped that Ryker would be a good Maxy replacement. He has the chops and a very good eye. But he seems to have chosen the homer buffoon role, which is sad. I like Katie G. I hope that Big E and Mitchy go back to their previous roles.

The FO simply needs to improve. The FO mismanagement was a death of 1000 papercuts. An extra draft pick here; a $250k overpay there ( actually at least 4 this year alone); loyalty far beyond the call of duty.

There need to be changes behind the bench. Bednar is here to stay, much to my chagrin. Virtually everyone else, from assistants, to medical staff, to amateur scouting need to go.

I actually love loyalty, and in a manner, Sakic has given the Avs a good name when it comes to fairness and loyalty. But it is to a fault. JTC will leave and the Avs get nothing. Kadri left and the Avs get nothing. EJ gave the team a Vet Minimum performance, while stealing $5M in cap space. I hate to throw Landy in here, but I'll be gone until Fall so I wont have to field the shitstorm of disagreement. Landy is a tremendous guy. Landy is a great leader and captain. But 8Y x $7M?!?!??!? That is $16M for a pair of 1W, which will increase to $20M when Mikko gets his raise, and $30M when counting Nuke and Lehky. That is not sustainable and I'm not even counting the almost $20M for the top 2 centers.

So there needs to be some tough decision making:

Toews needs to be moved for a 2C. Even then, the Avs will need $2M more than Toews salary.

Manson needs to be moved for asset. That's hard with a NMC, but the NMC was stupid in the first place, so CMac can deal with the mess he made.

JMFJ actually shed the MF this season. He has more gas than EJ. I'd consider bringing him back as 6/7D.

EJ simply does not have it anymore. He is a warrior, but even at Vet Minimum, I do not think the juice is worth the squeeze. He needs to go breed horses.

The bottom six obviously needs help. I'd have to say that Cogs and Helm are both baked, though I would take Cogs at Vet Minimum if he wanted to return. The following guys are likely going to be offered more than the Avs can pay:

JTC
ERod
Malgin
Eller

So what the heck will it look like next year? I don't know but there needs to be a significant change, not the tinkering which we saw this season. So who is untouchable? Mac. Makar. Can Mikko be untouchable if he wants $12M or $13M AAV? I'd actually add Georgi in the list, since he far exceeded his contract value. He might be in the Vezina discussion next year. Is Byram untouchable? These are the decisions which must be made by CMac - and likely by the end of this week.

Oh, yeah. They need to put a statue of Maxy outside. That might require Foppa and Sakic being immortalized in bronze as well, but that is a good thing.

I’ll re-post what I put in the GDT as it was mostly my summary of the season:

Mackinnon was the only player this year that played better than last year.

Everyone else took a step back.

I don’t blame Cmac at all. We basically had the same roster as last year. Minus Kadri playing out of his godamn mind. But plus Georgiev.

If this team was healthy, playing like they did last year, and Georgiev stealing games like the regular season, we would have easily swept the west and gone back to back.

The amazing thing is how much of a regression each player had this year and of the course the injuries.

I’m kind of glad it’s over. This team really wasn’t fun to watch. I was just waiting through every other shift for Mackinnon to come out.

Now, I get the next two months of my life back and will start getting back to bed on time

The Season’s over. I guess I should go change out of my playoff avatar meow.

There wasn't a 2C available that would have raised the needle much, no one was going to perform at Kadri level, not even Kadri himself. Maybe they squeak by the Kraken but then pain comes later. I do think the biggest failure was not finding young talent that can grow. Not sure if that's on the developmental coaching or the GM for not having enough on hand. Let's hope more is to come next season as being able to use guys making under a million will be crucial to contention.

We did see some promise in Foudy but that was about it. Meyers got a little better but he's got to make a big step up. Byram looked quite good and I'm fine with that progress, let's see if the GM believes it enough to trade Toews. That's really the only chip left and it needs to be used properly. Newhook is just going to tease us but probably will never do enough to satisfy the team nor potential suitors. If I'm another team at most I'm giving for him is a mediocre prospect or a 4th rounder. Girard looked a lot better to me, not a star but probably worth the contract. Surprisingly effective as an undersized D man, he will have to keep it up if Toews is gone.

As for the depth regulars, man it's hard to believe how bad they are at offense. Logan, stop shooting at the goalies chest. Malgin, please stop thinking you can take on defenders. EJ, time to hang them up. MacDermid, find a beer league near you just cannot believe how many NHL games you were allowed to play.

Like most everyone else here, I'm a little depressed over the lost opportunities over the last few years and a little fearful of the Avs winning only one Cup with the core they have/had.

And then I think about what it must be like to be a Canucks or Sharks fan, or a Leafs or Flames fan (last Cup coming before most of their fans were born).

We're still lucky.

This core will win at least one more cup

Any solid 2C would have raided the needle. Some real good ones moved and would have raised the needle a lot. They were available, the Avs just didn’t want to pay.

None of the UFAs will be resigned. Byram will sign. Newhook will be used as a trade bait. If no team bites, he'll be signed for cheap. Meyers might sign a two way deal

We will have

Landeskog - MacKinnon - Rantanen
Lehkonen - ? - Nichuskin
Newhook - ? - O'Connor
MacDermid - Meyers - ?

Toews - Makar
Byram - Girard
Hunt - Manson

Georgiev
Francouz

AHL callups:
Foudy, Olausson, Merkley, Beaucage, Annunen

Landeskog, Nichuskin and Manson are big question marks. We also want upgrades from Hunt, MacDermid and Meyers.

So we need a 2C, 3C, 4C, 2 or 3 bottom 6 wingers, a couple of bottom pairing defenseman, possibly another top 6 forwards.

They overachieved to win the division.

The top players continue to be awesome which is great. However, Makar's health is a real long-term concern.

The depth absolutely sucks and was not helped by MacFarland's refusal to do much about it. Overall the GM kinda ruined the entire season.

The team is in trouble going forward if the intention is to lift a cup.

Pull a Kucherov with Lando.

This team and management is way to "nice" to do that. And Kroenke is not willing to spend over the cap either. So it doesn´t really matter.

Lets wait and see if Lando can even come back and play at this level. Thats my biggest concern.
