Foudy, Malinski, and who?
Pavel... off chance he earns the 4C spot out of camp, but IMO by mid season when injuries hit, he's a mainstay on the 4th line and PK. There is no puck skill there, so he's going to have to fight and win faceoffs. With the Avs needing cheap contracts, I think he plays a lot of games. Not real sure if he's a long-term NHLer with his lack of skill, but next year, I see a lot of games.

Figured it'd be him. Guy screams 4C and nothing more. He might also scream Marc-Andre Cliche lol.

If your going all in the next few years that's fine, but no half measures. Everything should be on the table and you need a center back who can drive the 2nd line. I was more of the all in mentality back in the 2020/2021/2022 time frames, but until Landeskog's playing games again I'm not sure how to proceed from here. If Landeskog is actually done, I think reloading is the way to go, though that may be unpopular.

The best thing the Avs could do would be to either draft or acquire a center who can produce in a 2nd line role on an ELC. But that's a tall order and unlikely to happen.

As far as CMac goes, I was as disappointed as anyone at deadline day. But given how the Landeskog and Nuke situations played out, I'm glad we didn't make any major moves for rentals. Even if we won last night, we'd basically need an entirely new 2nd line to have any chance against Dallas.

I’m disappointed they lost game 7 to Seattle, but I’m not all that disappointed with the team.

Once Nichushkin vanished they had no hope of winning the cup. His absence along with Landeksog was going to be too much to overcome. Everyone could see that.

A lot of adversity this year. Most man games lost to injury in team history. Personally, I’m proud of the fight they showed.

There are clearly some fixes that need to be made to the roster. Hopefully McFarland isn’t complacent, because there’s work to be done.

Find the next Kadri. Find the next Burakovsky. Find the next Nichushkin. Find the next Francouz. Find the next Graves.

They’ve found quality players before to supplement the stars. It’s time to do it again.

Yeah, why they didn’t load up in 2020 or 2021 for 2-3 legit runs, rather than 2022 for 1 is still head scratching at best, maddening at worst.

I gave up on the season after the TDL, so I'm not even that upset they lost. This entire season would have made a great Netflix series. By the way, was Ball Arena built over an old cemetery or something? Might explain the injury and Game 7 curses lol

I agree and that's not a hindsight thing either. But they won one so it's not a complete failure. Just feels like we never took advantage of MacKinnon at $6.3 and Makar on an ELC as much as we should have.

Everything allready said.

Gonna be a long summer. At least something good. Players can heal, rest and enjoy their time away from the rink and business. And we should too.

Whatever may come out regarding Nuke.

Proud of the regular season they played with all the injuries and stuff going on. They even pushed for game 7....But it was just not enough. The depth was just not there.

It was a hard year. And this season felt like a neverending uphill battle.

We lost Peter McNabb, Lando's career may be on the line, we got an avalanche of injuries again, Nuke leaving the team....The list goes on....Just overall hard to overcome.

Looking forward to much needed changes in this whole org and roster.

Until then i can watch the highlights from last year and maybe watch playoffs hockey without being emotional invested. 😄

And it's true, life goes on. Time to relax and enjoy other things. Until the fever returns.

Sakic & this core’s tenure is a success in yes, they won the Cup. It’s just unfortunate that they didn’t maximize the amount of success they were capable of with a bolstered roster similar to last year for 2020 & 2021 SC Playoffs.

I recognize that my view is additionally jaded, being 40, therefore spoiled by the team’s run from 1995-2002 when they were a legit Cup contender every year, & the salary cap wasn’t a thing.

Of course, an argument could be made that since there wasn’t a cap Avs management should’ve bit the bullet & spent the $ necessary to retain certain TDL acquisitions (Fleury) &/or other depth forwards, which might’ve netted another Cup or 2 in that period. But, that’s another topic for another thread.

The window is closed TBD Landeskog/Nuke situation resolution and if the front office can bring life into things reshaping our depth on minimum.

The time too win was the bubble against Dallas and against Las Vegas.

We all knew the MacKinnon contract was going to be the best chance, we got 1.

We need a 2c or we are not competing for a cup end of.

Having 1 functional line is mad depressing.

This season has been pretty cursed, I won't be surprised to see them in the contender column again but we know very well what that looks like and this roster isn't it. All eyes on this off-season.

To many variables right now but we know the equation. Judgement reserved for now.

With hindsight bias would buying EJ out really matter, based on our D after him I highly doubt it. He was a warrior, he should have retired but money and he went out with a whimper but we're past that.

If you asked me 5 years ago if I'd be happy with 1 the answer is yes. But tis the life of our devout following, what have you done for me lately.

That’s the beauty of being a fan, & the curse of being a player/coach/GM. Good job, you won a championship, do it again. It’s the reason coaches & GMs especially get hired to get fired.

I was happy to see my Avs play in LA and Anaheim last month, something I will remember forever. The rest I can forget.

Just hope we can start a new season with an healthy group of players, you can’t win nothing with the bandaid we had. Just hope they all can recover, including Landy.

Unfortunately, I have to admit, we should trade some of our players trying to adress our needs. Yes I would trade Newhook while he still has some value, and I would try to trade Manson, maybe one of G or Toews.

Time to get some young blood too. What about Behens, Malinski, Foudy …
Same. I caught them twice in Anaheim and the LA game at the end of the season. All 3 victories. These season, so awkward and strange. Can't wait to see the roster next season. Go Avs.

Echoing a lot of the sentiment here. I'm proud of the players. I truly believe they gave it their all and were just overwhelmed by the state of affairs. Lack of depth which lead to players in positions above their keep lead us to this. I don't know what's happening with the Nuke situation but that happening was a final nail in a coffin that was already being lowered into its resting spot.

Now what pisses me off is the front office for the same reasons that have already been mentioned. How they thought JTC or Newhook were good enough for 2C is beyond me. How they thought that the TDL play was for a retained Eller is beyond me. How the Landy situation was handled is beyond f***ing me. Just too many mistakes and too much over valuing of the depth players we had on the squad. Really hope we see some more movement this off-season because this roster needs a makeover. Lack of cap space will be tough to manage.

The Avs have tendency to get too in love with "their type" of player, guys that can skate fast but don't really drive the play at either end of the ice.

LOC
Nieto
Meyers
Newhook
ERod
Malgin
JTC

There needs to be more variation with regards to the type of players on this team. Need some guys that can play heavier and cycle effectively, need a couple skill players/shooters in the bottom six that can put up points. I expect a pretty big shakeup wrt depth on the roster this offseason.

Im dissapointed with Compher and Georgiev thats about it.

Anyone else feel like this year was the least invested in the Avs they've ever been?

The amount of injuries completely neutered it for me.
Easily. I was more invested in the 16-17 season more because of the potential of drafting Nolan Patrick.

My problem with CMac and the deadline is that it was completely unfair to MacK and Rants. They carried us all year, and in the playoffs. They deserved some help. I like Eller, LBN, and JJ, but they aren't scorers. We needed some fire power. You're a team that just won the cup, and despite the injuries, you have two star players that are going off like crazy. Find them some help!

There was a bit of a malaise due to burnout and what not but I don't know if I'd go that far. I still managed to watch nearly every game.

I'm going to try and not do that next year though, life is just getting too busy for me to invest THAT much time into hockey.

The least invested I've ever been was 2017. By the time the bottom dropped out after EJ went down I stopped watching until the following season.
