This is a win for the Flyers. There were a large amount of people who said there was no chance we’d get a 1st for Walker under any circumstances and now they’re very predictably shitting on getting a first because we have to take on an extra year and 4MM of Johansen.

Extremely small price to pay. Especially when you see the lack of value received for retention / taking on bad contracts in recent years.

Most of the people who were insisting we can't get a 1st for Walker were the ones gearing up to defend the team for not selling him, though.

Danny/Front Office seem to value pick value much more than cap space. This is the second case in less than a year of taking on big cap numbers for less than market value.

TBH, good. I don't give a rats ass how much dead money this team has over the next couple years, Comcast isn't exactly hurting for cash. Flex that financial muscle, use every penny of cap and LTIR space to get more actual player value, and then, in a couple years when all the dead money clears, we'll be better off in terms of roster quality.

Except the Flyers flexed their financial muscle to overpay for the asset they wanted.

The smart play is to take on deafspace for assets. I think everyone would agree with that. But you don't just open up shop and say "I'm ready to pay for your picks!", you have to leverage the other teams need to clear that space. They didn't do that.

I don't want Ceci or RyJo playing on the team next year :)

As long as Ryjo cap hit doesnt hurt us, I prefer him not playing over playing Ceci.

Can we retain 50% and flip him or is he that useless ?

This is what I get for jumping to conclusions.

Puckpedia has Johansen's contract dump valued at 33rd overall (1st pick in round 2).

Today: 33rd overall in 2024 > 2025 1st round pick with a chance of being 2026.

That would imply Walker had negative trade value lol.

Nobody knows that. Especially later in the round.
Only matters if you believe it. Late 1st round picks this draft aren’t held in as high regard, that’s why you saw 2 contenders jump at the chance at moving them early.

It's tough to get upset at the Flyers utilizing their cap space to target a cap dump, letting that player thrive into an asset, and flipping him a first, while also again being willing to utilize cap space to make sure that a 1st is on the table.

In all other scenarios this would be deemed a shrewd, successful rebuild trade. I think many are just a bit bitter after the Seeler news.

Turning a throw in into a 1st rounder is really great work by DB, assuming theres nothing dumb tied to this.
if the Avalanche is not retaining salary, Johansen has a * 8 million dollar contract in 24/25. add in 6 million for
Petersen and the team has 14 million dollars in dead cap space. i do not see this trade as a smart move by the gmanager

Yeah that would be true, if he wasn't already retained at 50%

Nashville already retained half of his salary. Flyers are only on the hook for $4M.
