Will Johansen actually play for the Flyers? I assume he will clear waivers. Do they give him a shot or does he head to Allentown?

I remember he was somewhat good long, long ago. Like ages ago when horses, suspenders and dresses from the prairie were a thing. He should cut his hair like Michael Landon used to.

Do you drink port?

Sherry. Pinky out.

Close enough, but for full superiority you'll need Tawny Port.

Provorov trade at this point is:

Provorov
Connauton
Hogdson
#6

Peterson
Johansen
Grans
2 #1’s
2 #2’s.

Is this correct?

"Margins don't matter"

Since when? That's where deals are really won. Reminder:

Leafs had to pay a 1st to get rid of 1 year of Marleau.
We just took on RYJO for 1.5 years for a 1st...and gave up Walker...and a 5th.

As others have said, we get killed in the margins in every deal. All this little wasted marguns add up over time. Not surprised considering Fletch taught him.

No! I'm combating negativity, which is positive. "One set of people had one general take, and a different set of people now has a different one! How stupid! I pretend this is inconsistent and unhinged!" is not a positive vibe.

I am a proton working to balance the charge of a negative. Please ignore that this is backwards, chemistry is for nerds.
If you want I can be ultra-negative with you and it’ll turn positive.

Also don’t say “vibe”. Banned word. Punishable by trebuchet launching.

It's also a year later and less liquid.

And not to repeat myself, but taking on RyJo's contract alone was worth that conditional 1st. So what was Walker's actual value?
Yeah, but next year, you have a first that Is guarenteed to be a better # than a 2024 second. We don’t need to select a player this year, time actually doesn’t really matter to the Flyers right now

If anything you could argue a 2025 pick fits their timeline better.

I’ll take a 2025 first with Ryan Jo over a standalone 2024 2nd or a 2025 2nd any day of the week - Walker’s value from what I read was a 2nd, or a 1st with a cap dump. I’ll take the cap dump. Johansen’s contract isn’t even bad

This isn't an insictment on you, but man is it awful that we always have to be thankful we didn't do the worst thing. Good organizations do good things, not just " a less bad" thing.
I never really thought they would trade both Walker and Seeler. It’s just how they do business unfortunately. I mean if they liked him they still could of traded him for a 3rd or whatever and give him a chance to win and then sign him this summer.
I just don’t understand what the hurry was if they never had any intention of trading him.

They could move up in the draft, while being paid to do so, if they decided to actually do a real deadline sell and not this perpetual half in/half out stuff.

This. Briere has hinted on several occasions that he wanted to do something big. I’m with you here. He’s up to something.

I think the Flyers -- who say they value defense more than anything, while being advised by a great defensive mind in Bob Murray -- should only spend premium assets on defensemen, while never actually achieving the group they desire. I want them to lean into this shtick with Chychrun. They have Michkov and Cates and Poehling. The forwards will sort themselves.

That's not really the same situation though.

Marleau was a casualty of the leafs awful cap management. They had a slew of high potential forwards all at the end of their contracts with no space to resign them. Everyone knew they were absolutely desperate to offload him, and charged them accordingly. The Avs were only on the hook for 4m of RyJo contract.

Meh...

Where you lose is bad trades, bad signings, picking the wrong players in drafts *cough* Nolan Patrick *cough* ...

The Flyers aren't going to be a bad/mediocre team because they lost in some perceived margins (as if anyone knows the trade deals). They'll be bad because of poor decision making.

The opposite is true for being winners.

Tell the Dallas Stars or Carolina Hurricanes that the margins didn't matter in assembling their cores. Or the Lighting or the Knights or or

The Flyers have positioned themselves where they MUST win in the margins. It's a low % plan. The only top 5 pick they made, they traded at a loss 1 season later. But if that's their plan, they deserve to be criticized over every marginal decision. That they f*** up most of the big ones too isn't a defense.

The problem with consistently losing in the margins is now you're putting all your eggs into the basket of getting every single decision correct, and that's just not realistic.

Poor decision making is taking a cap dump, and not getting anything in return for it.
