I guess it makes sense that this place would be extra unhinged when they do exactly what we wanted them to do but still feel that deep compulsion to hate everything.

I don't think anyone wanted them to do what has unfolded today. Could you point to the people you're referring to?

See, now that the Chychrun stuff is out there, I can’t say this is objectively good yet.

This is such a joke. Ryan Johansen is better than atleast 3-4 players who regularly play. Disaster.

I've wanted Hathaway traded for a while. Basically since we signed him, his clear best value for the team going forward is in a deadline trade deal before he declines further. Guarantee you could get idiotic value for him from a stupid GM. Johansen slots right into his RW spot.

But nah.

He would have been traded a long time ago if it wasn't that bad.

If you think the value I placed on Walker was fair, they took the contract on for free essentially.

How did we get here? I don't even know what you are arguing now.

I said Colordo's '24 1st > Colorado's '25 conditional 1st. You disagreed and said teams don't value this year's late 1st round. That's fine if you believe that but I think that's fundamentally untrue.
I think the contract got them from a 2nd round pick, to a first round pick - which is honestly fine to me

Another thing with a potential Chychrun trade you would have Konecny, York, & Foerster up for new deals at the same time. I guess the bottom two could be bridged making them cheaper deals but I don’t think that would be wise. But between Konecny & Chychrun along you could be looking at adding $12M+ long term on your books with just those two.

You basically only have Couturier & Frost in your entire organization that either are current or project to be top six centers. One is showing potential red flags in the second half given his age/wear & tear & the second you don’t even like as a player. Beyond that you have just bottom six centers or guys that’s just hopefully project to be that.

We can simply use The Device to meld them into a single being.

The upside: 50% chance The Creature plays a full season

The downside: 50% chance The Creature never plays again.

Explain that one to me
The general rule of thumb - a pick gets discounted one round for every year in the future it is.

i.e. a 2025 2nd round pick = 2024 3rd round pick. There's a bit more nuance to it but that's the baseline.

So if you think Walker's fair market value was a 2025 2nd round pick by himself, that's pretty much the equivalent to a 3rd round pick this year. I think he's worth more than that which is why I don't think they got enough back for taking on the RyJo contract.

We've got Seeler locked in though! xVC/60 to the moon!

I would say a process that:

- Identifies a cap dump to help facilitate larger trades (Cap space weaponization)
- Let’s that cap dump thrive into a trade a deadline target (Development success)
- Sells him on him at the deadline (Asset management)
- And takes on additional cap dump to ensure receipt of a premium draft asset (Cap space weaponization, again)

is a decent process. One that this forum would be clamoring over in any other scenario.

Yeah, sure, Walker straight-up for a 1st would have been preferable. And Walker straight-up for a 1st and two 2nds would have been ever better! Etc.

Obtaining a 1st round pick for a guy who was thought to be a cap dump last year, at the cost of taking on a one year cap dump, is textbook rebuild shrewdness.

He's a good middle defensive pairing D-man who can play 15-17min ES a night and you don't really have to worry about him. He played a lot with Nick Seeler, and Walker typically handled the puck more often in the D-zone. He's usually responsible for the exits. He's got a good first pass out of the zone, but he's very good at using his feet and joining the rush in the NZ. He's also very good at getting the offensive blueline with possession. And, he's good at defending his own d-line. In short, he's a transition specialist. His Hd-zone coverage is just okay.e's got average puck skills and vision, so don't expect a ton from him in the offensive zone, but he'll help get the zone.

If the Flyers were rebuilding & didn’t give a f*** about results you could just pump Johansen up with top six & PP time you could potentially increase his trade stock leading up until next year’s deadline. Your team’s bottom line would be worse off for it but you could make Johansen’s surface numbers look respectable.

Playing on this PP would only add to his negative value.

Last night, I said this:

27OA + Ceci @ 3.25x1 vs let’s say a 2 and a 4 that upgrades to a 3? I’m not sure that’s a clear decision. I’d want to know who else is looking to buy space.

I don't think this trade is terrible or ffantastic. How much is up for debate, but t's clearly some amount less neutral value than the Ceci rumor. It's on the cheap side to dump RyJo, but still within the realm of reason. But there are nuances to it and we're all operating with far less than perfect info.
