Really no downside with this signing. Perfect term and money. Absolutely no complaints with any contracts Hughes has given out so far.

Wonder what the price will end up being for RHP - 2x1.5? Maybe a bit more?

Might be in the minority here but I can’t wait till PLD gets trade elsewhere and signs long term so he can stop being brought up in every damn topic lol
Don't worry, if he gets traded here he'll also not be brought up like this!

Bad for the tank if monahan stays healthy. Also, I'm not sure if any team would trust picking up monahan at the deadline and trusting that his body holds up for the playoff grind.

Good points.

On the positive side, it's good for our young wingers to play with a good vet center, similarly to hiw Savard is good for the young LD's to play with. He may be bad for the tank, but he's good as a mentor.

Hopefully we get a good one at 5 and PLD and use those building blocks to build, not more tanking.

I don't mind this move. He seemed to fit in well with the lineup, made our PP seem like more of a threat, and will give an opportunity for our young guys to play with some skill.

Likely to be traded at the deadline if he stay healthy. If he produces at a level similar to last year, he should return a late 1st round pick.

Don't think it has any upside really from Monahan pov.

But to me, its another very telling move.

Hughes accepted to let go of his agent career to become our GM. Marty St. Louis accepted our HC postion. (Do you think he would have coached under fcking Bergevin?). Caufield could have signed for 5 years yet this young american stars signed for 8 years and at the Suzuki aav. I will let alone the Engels and Dreger pieces where Montreal is now being talked about as a destination for the NHL players aroung the league.

Monahan signing this one year deal with us is another tell that our organisation is under very good management. The guy running the show got it big time. We finally have a quality organisation. Those are the only plausible incentives for Monahan to have signed this deal.

How can you say this doesn't have any upside for Monahan? I'm sure he has been promised that, if healthy, he will be actively shopped at the deadline giving him a solid chance to chase a Stanley Cup.

I'm not convinced that it's a good idea to tie up that kind of cap space into Dubois either. I'm kinda hoping that talk is all white noise

And, if he feels this is a team he can have a large role on and produce, he could earn himself a big contract next summer.

It's fine if we take a 2nd or 3rd and move on.

But Dvo scored at a 48 points per 82 games pace with us his 1st year. How many could he put up playing with Suzuki and Cole?

Do we really have more deserving players to play with Cole and Nick? It seems we kept cycling through players and never found anyone, except for Dach and Monahan. But they'll be great as 2c and 3c. I'd much rather see Dvo than Hoffman, Pitlick, even Anderson isn't a good fit there, imo.
if all 3 stay healthy its very possible he scores more then 48 points but that wont change hes value much GMs know hes a #3 center and abit overpaid

If we dont trade for Dubois then Dach or Monahan will play with Suzuki/Caufield might even see Anderson or Slafkovsky but im sure it wont be Dvorak hes been in the league for like 6/7 years what he does for half a season next to our 2 best players wont change hes value imo will be lucky to get a 2nd

If we get Dubois in the Caufield Suzuki range, I see it as a win. We need suze in the top 6. He doesn't have to be the go to guy at that cap hit. Just bring size and production 2 out of every 3 games, or 3 out of every 4. PLD likely hasn't hit his prime yet.

I don't think this moves has any downside from Habs pov, don't think its move that will have any effect in the long run also.

Good move especially considering he can play up and down the lineup. If healthy, I can see him in the 50-60 point range.

If no changes, that leaves us with Suzuki, Dach, Monahan, Dvorak, and Evans as NHL center depth. I know last year was a bit of a challenge up the middle when the injuries piled up.

Better situation if we trade for Dubois and Dvorak is part of the package. Glad this contract is signed before the draft. Good news.

I do like Slaf playing with Monahan this season too. They produced well together and it was the time that Slaf looked the best.

When Monahan got rolling last year, you really saw how he made others around him better.

I hope his injuries wont be a concern this season, dude is still only 29 and has still got the skills.
