If none of Drouin, Gurianov, Belzile, Byron and Tierney returns, we'd still have 15 forwards as of now
  1. Suzuki
  2. Caufield
  3. Dach
  4. Slafkovsky
  5. Monahan
  6. Evans
  7. Pitlick
  8. Pezzetta
  9. Ylonen
  10. RHP
  11. Anderson
  12. Gallagher
  13. Armia
  14. Hoffman
  15. Dvorak

I imagine we drop the bottom 3 and add Heineman. I would trade Dvorak for picks

Armia & Hoffman we should waive if we can't trade them.

Maybe a team(s) will pick them up on a freebie. If not, we can loan Armia out to a Finnish team & Hoffman can go to Laval.

They need a few bodies short term if they are going draft Michkov. :D

But seriously, I think both sides got frustrated because of the injury so it’s a part 2.

If Mo can reestablish himself and does well, he could be traded at the deadline.

Arguably the reason the Habs season spiraled a bit in the second half (his absence). In a pivot towards youth, he is a capable leader and brings a level of consistent production when healthy. To resign him the Habs must know something about his ability to recover from his injuries, I feel like he's going to shine. This contract reduces pressure on him and Habs
I don't think the Habs know anything special about his recovery, it's more like a calculated gamble.

The deal is fine but if we still want Dubois dvo has to go
It's not really Dvorak that would be the problem since all of PLD, Dach, Monahan can play wing. It's guys like Pitlick, Armia who are the ones that will be pushed out of the lineup and possibly sent to the AHL to make room.

Caufield - Suzuki - Dvo
Slaf - Dach - PLD
RHP - Monahan - Anderson
Gallagher - Evan's- Ylonen
Trade DVO, and Heineman needs to be in that lineup in the top 9. From what i remember, Monahan was more effective on the wing.

I actually see room for all. Just gotta prioritize them over Hoffman, Armia, and Gallagher.
St-Louis will not start the year with Gallagher on our 4th line and i already had Armia/Hoffman outside our top 9

ur Dvorak on the first line made zero sense that will never happen i can see Dach or Monahan playing with them but never Dvorak

Very possible that we can get at least a 1st for Monahan at the deadline. Does that allow us to trade the Calgary 1st as well as the Florida 1st and Dvorak + for a PLD package?

Dvo has no value now. I think he could get his production up playing with offensive players on the wing, and then we trade him.

This also allows us to reunite Dach with Suzuki and Caufield if we want. Slaf/Monahan/Anderson or even RHP/Monahan/Anderson can work well as a second line. Chances are if Monahan stayed healthy last year Dach would have remained on the top line which was on fire at the time. There is absolutely no rush to play Dach at center until we fill out our top 6 with better talent.

You are almost certainly right that Gallagher won't start on the 4th line. But hopefully he gets outplayed by the young guys and ends up there - before he gets injured and then we don't have to worry about him taking up a spot in the top 9 anyways.

For this price Monahan coming back seems like a smart move. He is well liked in the room, provides veteran leadership and can play both center and wing. If he plays 26 games he gets the 15K bonus.

This is all true, but Dach changed over the course of the season. He started out at C and was pretty meh. Then he was moved to the wing with Nick and Cole and took off production and confidence wise. Then he went back to C and was a great C, even outplaying Suzuki on many nights.

Imo, Dach has emerged as a C. Suzuki-Dach-Monahan give us 3 good two way C's ensuring our young wingers get to play with a good offensie C. It's a great scenario imo.
