I really hope they don't wait again until the deadline and risk Edmundson getting hurt again before the deadline. He's got a bad back. Move him asap. You're only asking for trouble by waiting.
If we want a real first line that does not get outscored by its opponents, we could go with
Monahan-Suzuki-Caufield

But I also like Slaf-Monahan-Anderson as a good third line. In order to do that, we need Dubois or whoever we draft with our top pick to play in the top 6, along with Hoffman or RHP as a stop-gap 6th man.

I do think they've created a positive environment and a guy like Monahan definitely wouldn't have stuck around if the coach was a dickhead everybody hates, but I don't think he would have passed on a 3M + performance bonuses deal from eg. Colorado just to sign in Montreal in the hopes he rebuilds his value so he can get traded to a contender later.

It's a nice piece of business for the Habs but I think this contract and this timing just indicates this was probably Monahan's market value rather than being an indicator that the Habs are now a special destination.

I don't hate it. He did very well in the short time he played and if he stays injury free, he can be flipped at the deadline.
If he stays healthy, I wouldn't move him for peanuts at the TDL.. I think he could have a role on our team moving forward.. More in the bottom 6 duties - mitigate his reg season playing time and preserve his body throughout the year. Give him PP1 time instead.. NBA has been doing this for years now (NFL MLB dont compare), no reason we cant do the same.

Dach/PLD - Suzuki-CC
Slaf/Ferrel - PLD/Dach - Anderson
Slaf/Ferral/RHP - Dvorak/Money - Gally/Armia/Ylonen
Pez/Slaf/Ferral/RHP - Money/Dvo - Ylonen/Gurionov/Gally/Armia

get PLD signed for same contract as CC, and we are golden! we have too many 3rd/4th line players, going to have to trade a few.

IMHO, rebuilding teams do not trade young assets or 1st/2nds as a rule……I like PLD and would move him for Dvo ++ not deviating from the above. I know people are caught up with the fact PLD is a good player who wants to be here but he is 25 and rebuilding teams “traditionally“ take 4-5 years (Vegas not included). Dvo would be a great place to start with Winnipeg they save $ and we throw in a couple of roster players over 23 + 3rd’s…..I know I’m stating best case scenarios that’s because I’m biased regarding our rebuild. Hoff needs to go, Gallagher (respectfully) needs a change of scenery….. perhaps Vancouver can offer something that helps the rebuild, he is heart & soul when healthy??????

our 5th and 31st & the rebuild, I’d be happy to leave the draft with trading our 5th to Zona ( if the C’s are gone) for Cooley +/- and moving Dvo +31 for PLD if our picks turn out to be the equivalent of Galchenyuk and Juulson………….crystal balls my friends, lol.
Well I beg to differ if its for a core piece that is also part of the young core. You always have to ask if your new pick has the slightest chance of being as good as the player you are trading for. IMO the anwer is not only it is unlikely but that player could also never play a single game in the NHL to the risk is low IMO. Dvo well its a cap dump. I think Gallagher promotes the culture they want here much more then Dvo. He will be traded but not now. BTW if they were to trade the 5th for another young core piece (e.g. Askarov in Nashville) I would not cringe either. As long as its done with a plan.

The 15k in bonus is weird. I was expecting a larger performance bonus structure. I really like this deal. In the past, I think someone like Monahan goes to UFA to explore his options. MSL has the group liking hockey in Montreal and Monahan is one of them. The group is tight and they know the vision the managers are trying to accomplish.
He probably asked for 2M hence 1,985 + 15K in bonus.

Bezile is a wasted contract and Gurianov is just plain bad
Gurianov sucks right now. But you don't sign him for what he is now. You sign him if you think you can teach him how to play along the wall and not turn the puck over. If you don't think you can teach him those things, you move on.

Belzile is a better depth guy than Pitlick, Hoffman, Armia, and Pez. I don't think there's any room for him right now in the NHL. But he can start in Laval and not count against the cap.

Actually, it is more than I thought ;)
25 GP out of 82 x 6M his previous salary = 1,83M
But I like this deal, he is a great mentor for young guys like Dach, Slaf, etc. Hope he stays fit.

Belzile is just an ahler like Pitlick when you have those in ur top 12 , it's not good.
As for Gurianov enough with the trying things , he had a lucky playoff streak and this career. Id rather save 3m and another contract to get a chance to a new player in the 3 rd line

Good signing, Slaf had very good chimestry with Monahan.. Kid is going to play with a good center next season, Suzuki, Dach or Monahan. Hopefully this means the end of Dvorak in Montreal.

An healthy Monahan could fletch a pretty decent return next TDL as well.

I'd give Belzile and Gurianov each the Pez contract.

But probably no room for them.

With Monahan, the Habs officially has their 13 forwards signed for next year:

Suzuzki, Caufield, Dach, Monahan, Slafkovsky, Dvorak, Evans, Pezzetta, Gallagher, Anderson, Armia, Hoffman and Pitlick.

Still RHP that we're not sure what to do with him and there's many prospet entering the show next year.....so I'm pretty sure there's no place for them here.

RHP and Ylonen are definitely in my top 12.

Pitlick starts in Laval.

Hoffman and Armia either start in Laval or the pressbox.

Pez starts in the pressbox.
