Prospect Info: Sean Farrell, C/LW, 124th Overall

Aside from goal scoring, to me Farrell looks better at everything than Caufield. He’s bigger and faster than Caufield too, and shows more potential for a two-way game.

Farrell is on a great development track but he's not projected to be better than Caufield (aside from goal scoring).

* Bigger? He's 2" taller and 9lbs heavier
* Faster? Disagree. Caufield can skate
* Better 200' game? Maybe but he's not turning the needle as a physical force.

Farrell as a 4th line steel and ends up a top line talent? Love the kid but I think he's tracking to be a middle 6F type who has offensive upside and great hockey IQ

I don't think Ufa years matter as much anymore. Paying for rfa years has been super expensive now probably even moreso than ufa years because teams have started waking up and realizing that giving a 30 year old 7 years isn't really good. Most of those big contracts were given to young players. I think the timing of signings is also really important. Hughes might have to take risky investments with players before they break out.

I wonder if Hughes and Caufield's agent talked extension at all this summer? You would imagine so right? It's possible Caufield and his agent said they rather talk extension after next season. Good move for them cause MSL will be the coach and Caufield is projected to play with Suzuki all year.

One area I would tinker with if we come out flat again this year is Caufield with Dach. I love Caufield but I want to see him produce in different situations. If I was a GM and I had a hunch of what they would ask for after putting them in the best situation to produce, I'd work with MSL to play him with others and mix in a few different situations to see how he can produce with other players not named Suzuki.

Indeed. Add Heineman and that's a great third line/insane 4th line. Still can't believe Evans got 30 points without a single PP minute playing with scrubz. He'd be dynamite with Farrell by his side.

Let's hope Evan's can stay healthy. He's good at a lot of things. I'd love to see him take a regular shift with offensive players.

Heck I'd like to see Caufield - Suzuki - Evan's. Or Evan's with Dach. Or Evan's- Dvorak - Gallagher (Evan's was great with Danault and Gallagher before Scheifele knocked him out).

I think Suzuki and Caufield need to play with someone big even if he doesn't fit too well, maybe Anderson or Slaf. Evans also needs to play with someone who can do the physical part, though I guess Danault and Gallagher don't really do that. Putting Dach with either group could work.

I see a Clayton Keller lite upside for Farrell but likely closer to an Alex Kerfoot type of player.

Not sure what type of NHL forward I'd compare him too to be honest. I just think he becomes a middle 6F type who has offensive upside with good IQ. He's not going to be a complete 200' forward who can move the needle physically at both ends. Certainly not way more complete of a 200' forward than Caufield which is where the conversation started.

A third line of Farrell - Dach - Roy would be something, IMO.

Of course, that would come off the heels of drafting Dvorsky and then signing Dubois as an UFA.

Dubois - Suzuki - Caufield
Slafkovsky - Dvorsky - Mesar
Farrell - Dach - Roy
Heineman - Beck - Evans/Ylonen

Ondrej Palat. A good offensive forward who's not elite offensively but can produce with anyone and helps out in all 3 zones.

A coaches dream.

If Farrell play on 4th line... that would be a big waste of his talent. He need at least to play on 3rd line.

If Farrell can have the same impact of Palat, that would be very good for this team. I think Farrell have talent to have same impact, let's hope that we are going to develop well Farrell. If he become a solid top 6 player like Palat, the future of forward group will be pretty pretty good.

Palats inside game sets him apart from Farrel IMO.

But he can have a similar impact anyway IMO, which is insane, finally a late round steal?

With any comparison it's never going to be perfect but that's what I mean, a similar impact with being a good offensive forward who's got that defensive ability, can play on both special teams and really glues lines together.

Palat has never been the star on his line but every line he's on works better because he's on it.

Palat is Gally on steroids, so underrated.

Sean's season with Harvard is starting Thursday october 20th in a scrimmage against Brown university!

Excited to see him play this season and see where he's at. Hobey Baker nominee again?

:cheer:
