Prospect Info: Sean Farrell, C/LW, 124th Overall

They won't. Part of him signing will absolutely be burning one year of his ELC so he's going to play a game to start.

And they will definitely have moved bodies. Monahan is gone for sure. Drouin and Dadonov won't go for much but with retention and expiring deals some team will pay a 5th.
We'll see how things happen. Too early to have a definitive opinion.

If Hughes doesn't get a good offer for Monahan, he may extend him rather than letting him go for say a 2nd and a B level prospect...

Kane and Toews are also available in the market. So we'll see what the market is for Monahan. He won't be the best forward available.

We’be reached a point where we need competent nhlers more than middling prospects and picks.

Evans belongs on the 4th, he doesn't create enough offense. Slafkovsky - Monahan - Farrell
After the TDL my friend, when Monahan is traded for a great package of futures and with evans as our 2c we're back in the hunt for Bedard/Fantelli. One of them can be our 2c next year ;)

By trading competent vets we can put ourselves in a better position to get a competent superstar like Bedard, Fantelli or Mishkov.

So… Farell might be both be the name I hear most often and the player I know the least about.

I don’t remember seeing him play. Stats say he’s minuscule and mostly a passer; where do you guys see him slotting in? He’s 21, so I figure ahead of Slafkovsky like 2-3 LW? What makes him so popular around here?

Am I crazy or did I read somewhere that Farrell wants to play in the NHL as fast as possible and wasn’t interested in staying in NCAA for too long?

This is the best outcome we could hope for 😉

He and Slaf had good chemistry in rookie camp. Hopefully they maintain that chemistry and play together!

He's talented offensively and good defensively, definite top 6 or top 9 potential. Pretty good for a 4th rounder. And he played well against men at the Olympics.

My dream lineup next year:

Caufield - Suzuki - Dach
Farrell - Bedard/Fantelli - Slafkovsky
Hoffman - Evan's- Ylonen
Gallagher - ××××× - Armia
Pez

Gone: Drouin, Dadonov, Byron
Traded: Monahan, Anderson, Dvorak

Do you dangle this kid to acquire bigger assets?
He is supremely talented but I know management wants to get bigger.

As long as he's playing with bigger players like Dubois and Slaf, he'll be fine. Coco, Mesar and Farell will need to be on different lines to maximize their game imo.

I would be surprised if Habs trade Farrell. He is one of their top offensive prospects even if he isn't the biggest player. In fact, didn't the Habs try to convince him to turn pro this past off-season, but Farrell opted to go back to Harvard for one more year? I could be misremembering that.

While they do want to get bigger, I don't see them sacrificing one of their top prospects in the process. Also, with Slaf, Dach, Monahan, Guhle, Xhekaj & Kovacevic, they already brought in a bunch of guys over 6' and 200 lbs this year alone.

I'm sure they'll continue to look for guys with size and skill. I would be surprised if they give up Farrell in order to do that.

No, he’s their most talented prospect.

Hughes specifically said they got guys like Slafkovsky, Dach, (possibly this year’s prospect) so they could keep guys like Caufield, Farrell.

he said that, I fully expect him to be in the NHL at some point this year, he's a Junior you don't want him going back to the NCAA next year so hopefully he signs quickly although Harvard at least so far looks legit as they could be the best team in the NCAA (though they started out looking this way last year too but didn't hold up)

Better position for a top-2 pick is still around 20%. That's terrible odds if in order to get that 20% chance we trade away multiple players that would be useful to compete.

Did Farrell play for the Chicago Steel during his entire freshman University year?

Depends what assets. To get a guy like Anderson? Nope. To get a guy like Dach? yeah. If we trade a kid it must be for another kid.
I was willing to dangle him plus a first for Dobson, but again that is a youngster.

They do. But skill is still number one, and as long as we aren't team Smurf it's fine. See the Kid line of Caufield Suzuki and Dach where you have a big guy, almost medium guy and a small guy.
