Prospect Info: Sean Farrell, C/LW, 124th Overall

And some will... You're not trying to take the most complete 18 year old, you're trying to predict who will be the best player at 23. It's voodoo and there are no hard rules. It's hard to even determine the degree of randomness. There are fewer late picks that work out, so scouting is improving, but it's far from perfect.

Very well said! 100% how I see it too

Farrell is 5’9”. Caufield is probably 5’6”. Dude is tiny.
Tbh I stumble upon the black aces in the Mile-End like 8 years ago, Christian Thomas was listed at 5'9, I'm 5'10 and I was clearly taller than him and Pateryn was 6'1 at best, you would barely notice he was tall. They are all way shorter but also way wider than we think.

"Sean Farrell, RW, Montreal Canadiens: After putting up five points in USA’s opener against China, Farrell added an assist on USA’s second goal to give him a tournament-leading six points through just two games. The undersized winger from Harvard has shown remarkable skill and vision in his two games, becoming a much bigger impact player on the roster than perhaps was expected."

Farrell had:
6 pts in 4 olympic games
then 9 pts in 6 playoff games for Harvard.

Our top forward prospect imo

Not even close. He is by a mile. But while I like him VERY much, insane vision and passing skills and shot.....it says a lot about how important the upcoming drafts are. Up front.

Agreed.. Farrell and Roy are probably the only two right now in the system that I think -can- be a top line player but there's still a lot that needs to go right.

Need to go upside forwards and maybe one D in our 2x1, 2x2 and 3x3

Kid is coming along great.

He has another year in Harvard if not mistaken?
Said he would go back for another year.. we'll see if HuGo have different ideas and can convince him.

One more at most. He can go back and be the de-facto number 1 player on the team with Coronato.

If he does go back, I just hope his intentions are to sign with the Habs.

I'm not a NEED fan....but there will be ways to find BPA in front all day long in the upcoming draft.

Just for curiosity, someone know in what program Ferrall is at Harvard ?
Economics.

He would need to go back for 2 more years.

Absolutely, there's a group of defenseman in the mid first to early 2nd. After that, I think the drop off is palpable.

Thanks !

Don't know if he will want to finish school before getting pro or if he will want to finish it latter

He did online classes in Harvard last year and played in the USHL due to the pandemic.

So this is technically year 2 at Harvard, not sure how it works for his NHL rights & NCAA eligibility

Forgot about that. CapFriendly lists his right until 2024, so that would be after his third year of actually playing in the NCAA.

Whatever the case, I don't see him going back for that final year anyway.

Our top forward prospect imo
Shouldn't our top forward prospect be Joshua Roy?

Farrell would have to really be able to greatly translate his offensive production to work in the NHL whereas Joshua Roy has size on his end

It's a debate but Farrell has produced in a tougher league and the olympics, while also being a go-to player for all his coaches at both levels (Olympics & NCAA) on the PK and defending the lead late in games. A lot less needs to go right for Farrell to play in the NHL than Roy who's 200 ft game isn't realized at this point and may never be.

I think it was tva article, I'd have to look for it, but he talked about wanting to get to the NHL as soon as possible, so I'm actually a little surprised he has since then said he will return to Harvard, so I would assume based off that article that next season would be his last in the NCAA.
