Prospect Info: Sean Farrell, C/LW, 124th Overall

it was a great pick.

But every time I think of what a steal it was, I think why the heck did we not take Brett Berard. Another American kid (Timmins said he was looking there in the mid rounds). 5'9 like Farrell, but was the leading scorer on the USNDTP team that Luke Tuch was on. He's 1 year younger than Farrell, ended up making the world junior team that Farrell and Tuch got cut from, and now has 3g, 5 pts in the first 3 games of the NCAA season. And he went in the 5th round!
Yet Jack Smith and Blake Biondi were drafted before both. Sometimes I absolutely cannot explain how that Habs scouting team works.

True but the whole league missed both Berard and Farrell. At least we got Farrell. I had heard rumblings going into the draft that there were a lot of good kids playing in u.s. high schools that would go in the mid rounds. So I guess Timmins also wanted to dip into that pool with a couple of picks...

We cant draft every good prospect ...

Jack Smith had 27 goals in 17 games (reg plus playoffs), great skater, plays with some jam, solid two way that can play in all situations. Injuries have been an issue so far. Maybe he's just not physically strong enough, but it's easy to see why they picked him as I watched several of his games from the USHS and he was snipping pucks.

Roy, Kidney, and Mysak tearing up the CHL early. Hopefully Farrell does the same in the NCAA.

Thats alot to expect from Farrell. Kid dominated the USHL as an overager on a stacked team. NCAA is another world, we will see how he does but I would be happy with a production around 0,75 PPG.

yes that would be nice. But, Farrell is coming to the NCAA at an older age than many. First of all he was older than most of his draft class, given he's a November birth. 2nd, he did an extra year post draft in the USHL. So in terms of age, he should be able to produce if he's a good offensive player. Though every player is different.

Wow pretty good. What the difference Big-10 and the ECAC?

a decent amount. There's over 60 teams in the NCAA, imo they should be split into 2. The NCHC, Hockey East and Big 10. These are the best conferences, they have the most winningest teams, they have the most NHL draft picks.

The ECAC, CCHA (used to be the WCHA) and the Atlantic (one of the teams Harvard faced tonight) plus the independent teams (Alaska, A Anchorgae, Alabama, Arizona, Long Island) should be in the other group. Teams in Group 1 shouldn't be allowed to play teams in Group 2. But often in the NCAA, early in the schedule good teams take on much weaker teams, as once the 2nd half schedule starts in Jan, it's mostly just conference games which are much tougher. It's why you see high scoring, or points leaders early on and then it tends to slow down a bit, although for Caufield it was the opposite as he started a little slow and then caught fire and never cooled off.

Thanks for the report.

So if Farrell put a PPG season that would be pretty good.

here's a comp for you, Nick Abruzzese,

Nick Abruzzese Hockey Stats and Profile at hockeydb.com

leafs 4th round pick in '19, both came from the USHL at 19, both were Freshman at 20 (though Abruzzese was 5 months older), both undersized.

Abruzzese put up just about an assist per game (Ivy league plays less games) and was rookie of the year in the ECAC.

Who is the most notable player to come out of Harvard? I only remember one habs prospect going there before and he was a bust.
