Confirmed with Link: Scott Arniel named Winnipeg Jets head coach

Arniel was hardly as bad as people want to make out in Columbus. Just look at the roster he had there. In the first year he was one game below .500. With that roster that is actually quite impressive. The 11 and 25 second season there is probably more reflective on that horrible roster than the coaching. His success with the Moose is excellent. Four seasons of 45-46-50-40 wins is pretty impressive. He was with the Caps when they won their cup so he's also been privy to a successful run in the playoffs. He's also paid his dues as an assistant. I'll reserve judgement on whether this was a good hiring by what I see on the ice in the second month of the season. The first month is a grace period while he hopefully makes adjustments to the systems, etc.

His first 25 games in his second year also coincided with a string of awful goaltending and finishing. We've seen how this team has sunk when getting poor results in each.

Yeah, dead last in SV%, 2nd last in SH%, a terrible PK and an even worse PP in their first 25 games. Their analytics were about average at that point - nowhere near the bottom of the barrel. They were in last place in the NHL when Arniel got fired.

The next season with Todd Richards they managed a .573 points percentage - coinciding with Bobrovsky taking over as starter. They were actually worse analytically than under Arniel - 7th worst CF%, 5th worst xGF%...but that .932 goaltending is a helluva drug!

What players say to the media is really at the bottom of my list of things I like or dislike about players. I couldn't care less if they "take accountability" or not to the likes of Paul Friesen or Scott Billeck.
Especially at the end of the season media availabilities. I rarely ever watch them. The players would rather be having a root canal without Novocain, and will say what they have to, to get the hell out of Dodge. No one has had enough time to really process anything and everything is raw and they are just trying to choke down their emotions. They are probably the least insightful interviews of the season.

Looks like Cole is pretty happy with Arniel. Feels he was trusted by the coach and that he played some of his best hockey under him.

What do you expect Perfetti to say? Did you expect him to say that he's not too thrilled about Arniel because he was one of the bonehead coaches that sat him for 4.33 of 5 playoff games. What Perfetti really thinks vs what he feels he has to say are two different things. Show me a quote from a player that wasn't happy about his new head coachs hiring.

So we should trust what YOU THINK Perfetti thinks instead of the words that came direcrly out of his mouth

Perfetti was coached on what to say during an interview by Crash Davis. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. Sometimes it rains.

Agreed. Goalies are the own breed of player. I don't really care what Helly says about his play. He can say that God told him he was the chosen one and I'd just nod and say okay.
Does he have a black Labrador ⚫🤔 😳

Fair enough but what he says is true. He was trusted more by Arniel. Scott had no issue putting him out late in games. All but one of his en points came with Scott running the bench for instance. So while I doubt he was happy with how things went at times I do think it's in his best interest to work with a coach who did show more trust in him then Bones.

Of course it's in Perfetti's best interest to work with Arniel. He has no choice. The Jets own his rights for 4 more years. But to say Arniel had more trust in him than Bones is a bit of a stretch. I mean Arniel was in the room when the decisions were made to sit Perfetti for 11 regular season and 4 playoff games.

I mean we have no idea how things played out with the coaches. Bones had final say in the roster, foe all we know Scott or other coaches advocated getting him back in. For now I really don't have anything else to go on but take him at his word.

Since when would a assistant coach have the final say on who plays and who doesn't ? Does he have input? Maybe but the final call would be the head coach's . You are trying very hard to not like Arniel as our head coach, try giving him a couple of months first and then make your decision.

Listened to Scott's interview on Winnipeg Sports talk radio and I thought he did a good job. Talked about his journey, what has changed about the league, and more importantly about himself since his last shot. Very open and candid.

I’ll be cheering for him and I guess we shall see how it plays out.
