That is up there with Walking Dead as a show that didn't need more than 1 season.

On HBO, I've always had the feeling that they like to keep a stable of actors that they like willing to come running if they call. Might be why they're paying out Season 5 of WW.
The walking dead was shredded by three things; the writers strike during season two, darabont losing control and leaving/being fired, and the insane decision to take a product known for supplying zero plot armor and making everyone fair game to die and giving EVERYONE plot armor and only really killing off incredibly minor characters.
Sure they killed some main characters off but it was always at the end of a season after doubtlessly teasing us with close calls that they had no right surviving for season after season.

There was also that god-forsaken deer

The problem just boils down to writing and long-term series vision. The first few seasons were more taut and gritty, and yes, Darabont had a handle on it. It was never a masterpiece, but it was appointment television. I haven't watched the last 2 seasons -- it still had occasional peaks up until then -- and I realized seeing previews that I don't even care. Totally checked out. It looks even worse.

It became bogged down by unending seasons long fluff and filler, unending boring conversations while on a "Supply Run" to develop "Character." A surgeon of a show-runner could've cut it in half and made it twice as effective. It carried a gobsmacking air of self-satisfaction about it, aided by the Flyers Postgame equivalent that is Talking Dead. The main show was an inconsistent mess, and they were already horny to churn out spin-offs that were even shittier.

The sets and settings looked cheap and became monotonous. I don't think it had any particular directing flair or style, or any real consistent notion of horror. It became zombie makeup porn in the worst way -- look at how many unique zombies we can make, watch them groan and shuffle in cookie cutter scenes of vague danger! The cast became gargantuan; underdeveloped, underutilized, or plain uninteresting. And the uninteresting won out. The core characters you actually cared about were mostly written off because they wanted to leave the show (a great sign). And the continual ratcheting up of goofiness. My lord. It never came off as dark humor; it was post-apocalyptic wocka wocka. So many characters felt like they were satire or parody, without the writers being aware of it.

What do people think of Andor? I can’t get enough of it myself. IMO it’s the best Star Wars content since Rogue One. Mandalorian is fun but its nowhere near as great as Andor. The writing is just so damn good.

I was on the fence until Episode 8 and 9, which were outstanding. About to watch Episode 10 now.

I've made the mistake of watching it in the background. I think it is pretty good, but I've been missing big chunks of dialogue. I will have to rewatch it when the semester ends.

The latter half of this season has reminded me of the first time through watching Breaking Bad. I haven’t felt unrelenting tension like this from a TV show since that show ended. I’m so glad I’ve found a show that’s messing with my nerves this much. There’s also absolutely no mention of the force either. Star Wars has needed stories like this for a looooong time.

Episode 10 was also excellent. Definitely agree on the tension. Looking forward to seeing how it plays out.

much like the last episode..this one seemed to fly by..i have been way surprised at how good the series in..i went in with hugenormous low expectations and it smashed it

i felt bad though for the prison guards there were justifiably terrified and hiding..reminded me of Randal's speech in Clerks lol

Andor was a fun heist movie and once the heist was over I have successfully forgotten there are more episodes for about three weeks now. At least.
The mandalorian imo is a much better show. Andor is however miles above the book of boba fett. That show survived by the
mandalorian tie in

IMO the dialogue isn’t important, but I have inadvertently checked out after the heist. Nothing from episode one (not the movie) to the heist has had a huge impact dialogue wise.

No shit? I’ll have to check back in.
The wife and I have been watching the show on Netflix, The Watcher, and she is utterly creeped out the entire duration it’s on. I think it’s alright but she loves it. Don’t know if it is up your alley but it’s suspenseful.

gawwwdd damnnn the last few episodes of andor was amazing

what other shows have done this for yall? I want more shows that provide that tensions, development, acting. Everything that breaking bad, first 4 got, hotd brought. Need that distraction and suggestions haha

Is this good? Do we want this?
I want it very much, but if you aren't a Brandon Sanderson fan, you won't get much out of it. It's the seventh novel in the Mistborn series, and the thirteenth in the Cosmere (which also consists of a series of graphic novels, and a half dozen or so novellas/short stories) which is sort of similar to the early MCU in that all the stories are interconnected and building to a larger whole in the background.

There are also three more Cosmere novels releasing next year, because Sanderson wrote four books during the Great Covid Lockdown of 2020 because he is a crazy person.

I'll just stick with Sex Chess

I've been reading a book of Tolkien's letters and yesterday I read one that he wrote to his publisher, Stanley Unwin. Unwin's son, who was himself a writer, had read Tolkien's short story "Leaf by Niggle" and liked it a lot. Tolkien wrote in the letter that although writing was generally hard work for him, requiring extensive re-writing, "Niggle" had come to him almost fully formed in his head. I've read some of his short stories but I didn't remember reading this one, so I bought the e-book and read it.

If you are interested in Tolkien's work, and haven't read this, I would strongly recommend it. The thing that sets it apart is that it is probably the most personal story that he wrote. Tolkien wrote that he hated allegory but it's impossible not to see this story as an allegory of his own life.
