Andor has been a real surprise to me..like..the writers decided to strip everything Star Wars out of it in a sense and just ..ya know..wrote a good story that just so happens to be set in the SW universe

I’ve been saying to do this for years.
Yep. You don't even have to strip everything out. Have the Imperials, even the Rebels if you want. But the Galaxy is huge. You don't have to tie in major characters every way you turn.

Oceans 11 type heist on the casino planet. Saving private Ryan or Platoon style movie dealing strictly with the regulars. Monster movie dealing with the underbelly on cloud city or something. RomCom in Coruscant. 127 hours (or whatever the hiking movie was called) on Hoth.

I just finished Project Hail Mary. Good book, with an all time great bromance and a fun story, but man does Weir need to cool it with the 'funny'. A lot of the jokes land, but a lot don't, and he throws so many at you that the bad ones start to add up and just become tiring.

I don't want to sound like I didn't like it, I polished off 75% of it over the last 24 hours, I think I just enjoyed it despite itself, if that makes any sense.

I've also been reading a ton of Discworld recently, and Terry Pratchett is one hell of a tough act to follow.

I need people's opinions on Andor. Not because I actually care about it or wanna watch it myself, but my Star Wars geek coworker (who gobbled up the other SW shows like a kid in a candy store) won't stfu about how terrible and boring he thinks it is and how yesterday's episode was "the worst one yet" (then STOP GETTING UP AT 3 AM TO WATCH IT IF YOU HATE IT, DUDE)

It's good but i'm starting to lose patience with the pacing. Based on the first 5 episodes I can say with some confidence that it shouldn't be a 12 episode season. The first 5 could have easily been 3 with better pacing.

I've only watched the first three episodes, so things may have changed, but:

It's not classic "Star Wars." No Jedi, no space battles, not even a lot of action. It's much more of a caper/mystery show set in the Star Wars universe. So if you're going in expecting a ton of action, it's definitely not that.

That said, I liked the first three episodes. It isn't must-watch for me, but I like the twist on the universe and how it's focused on something much smaller.

Is he the type of Star Wars geek that is probably upset because they're not throwing in random "appearances" by people for fan service?

I haven't seen the latest one yet, so Rebel could be right that it is taking too long to get going. Through the first four, I have been very pleased with it because it is a real story with real substance and quality storytelling. The sequels relied entirely on member berries and were full of dogshit storytelling and dogshit casting, among other dogshit things. If your friend prefers the sequels to "Andor," then he is an idiot.

He basically just wants space battles and light sabres. Nothing else.

He legitimately sent a complaint to Disney plus after the first episode because some character apparently had the wrong patch on his uniform.

For the record he absolutely gobbled up Book of Boba Fett and unironically calls it the greatest show of all time, in the face of literally everyone else here who watched it thinking it was terrible.

The people I've talked to at work are split. Some like it, some think it's alright, others found it boring and dropped it after a couple episodes like a normal person would with a show they didn't like. No one is as hyperfixated on it as our friend here. I just dread every new SW project because I work basically right next to him, I don't give a shit about any of it and I know he isn't gonna stfu about any of it, lol.

He hates the sequels too but has gobbled up every other Star Wars show in the Disney Plus era so far.

You should probably ask to check this guy's freezer for dead bodies.

Let me know what you think after you watch episode 5. That's when I started to feel that way.

Andor has been fine. My opinion hasn't changed much through 5 episodes. The bar is so low for live action Disney Star Wars shows that mediocre seems good. It is slow, though.

I read somewhere that the season was written in three episode arcs, so it seems you'll have to wait for episodes 3, 6, 9, and 12 to get to conclusions of story building... this has played out through five episodes so far.

its better than i thought it would be...solid/decent but feels like an unneeded story about a meh character

writing has been solid
the scenery is really good
lack of established characters is really good

That show was absolute dogshit other than the Mando parts.

This corny bullshit made me laugh out loud at how bad it was:
