I think time jumps are planned
And that's ok...just not this season. Isildur is season 5 ish on a linear timeline, yet there are interviews talking to the actor that plays him now about his arc.

Unless they are doing like a BUNCH of jumping time forward and back (which I think is bad). Right now...season 1 is squarely circa 1000-1200 SA. Isildur is like 3300 SA.

Another good episode in the can. Just maintain this level and don't go off the rails, and I'll be happy enough.
Are you talking about Rings of Power? It's already off the rails, but only Tolkien hardcore's probably care, but they are already bent. The show is jamming ~2500 years of lore into 200. As a TV show, it will probably play out fine, as compressing it probably works fine for TV.

Yes, that's what I mean. I haven't read the source material in about 2500 years, so it doesn't bother me - I'm just trying to take something good from it.

It's a fine fantasy TV show. I like angry Galadriel and Ned Stark Elrond. It's not like I think this was written out with GREAT detail as to how it went down, so they have room to be creative. I think the problems will be stuff like the men getting corrupted by the rings. This happens over a while in the Tolkien timeline (like 600 years), but tv show compression it's going to be like a week. Heres your ring, surprise I am Sauron, now you are nazgul.

love house of dragons so far and am excited for the new andor series.
I'm with you. I'm wondering how many seasons HOD will end up. I'm thinking 4-5.

They said it was 3 seasons I think. Maybe they will do more but for now it’s just 3

Finally watched Rings of Power. This stuff is legit.

Galadriel rules and this take on Elrond is way closer to being accurate to the books than Hugo was. Hugo got the lordly aspect down, but he was too stern all the time.

On a scale of 1-10, how much better do you feel it is than Amazon WoT?

There is no comparison at all - that f***ing thing was a wasteland of horrible choices and f***ing bottomless stupidity. There are no words to describe how terrible it was, and I am saying this as someone who basically hate-read that series from Book 7 until the bitter f***ing end, so I have no emotional investment. In fact, that f***ing debacle of an adaptation is a huge reason why I am so slack in my criticism of this one - it has nowhere near the problems that one did, so I am hugely relieved. Seriously, there are no words for how f***ing terrible the WoT abortion was. F*** me, it was seriously the WORST.

I know, but it's basically this condensed/warped story they are giving us, or nothing. I'm choosing to be satisfied with this, as long as it holds together as a story independent of the source material. And I believe that the source material is so strong that it can withstand warping. Obviously I would prefer a purer adaptation, but it's better than nothing. And at least it isn't choking to death on Member Berries like the f***ing Star Wars sequels.

If you have to rewatch one series again, do you watch WoT season #1 or Marcella season #3? :naughty:

Well, I am going to have to watch WoT again, since they are making more of it and I will have forgotten everything that happened. And I have read "Eye of the World" at least seven times. That's how shit my memory is, but even if it weren't, who the f*** knows how they got what they did from the end of that book. What a f***ing disaster.

tl;dr I refuse to answer your hateful question on the grounds that it could give me career-threatening spontaneous combustion.

Haha yea, Star Wars, member berries, so much member berries.

Im enjoying ROP just fine. (The harfoots are kinda member berries though, dont see how they fit the elf/man/Sauron plot). Hardcores are bent though, I wonder if they will abandon it and it will survive on casuals alone (for it's absurd cost). It's CERTAINLY no GOT level drama, but it doesn't have that kind of political intrigue.

When you're adapting something as huge as LOTR, compromises have to be made. Solutions sought.

The most important thing is the vibe. The vibe is great.

I'll agree the vibe is great. I think they didn't really need to condense the timeline. Would have been fine saying 1000 years has passed. It's basically exactly what they did with the first age in the intro.

So am I. fellowship is probably my favorite movie ever, and they make the time when bilbo gives the ring to frodo and gandalf makes the research trip to Minas Tirith feel like a week, when it was quite a few years. And they cut a few characters out. Still was a great movie.

Oh yeah it was something like 20 years, and there's a solid 6-9 months between Frodo agreeing to take the Ring to Rivendell, and actually leaving. In the movie him and Sam instantly yeet

And they made it work...so well people forget. All the barrow dens stuff too ,which didnt serve a point ultimately. Except maybe to contrast the hobbits growth as warriors, as displayed in the scouring of the shire (which is also not in the movies).

Ultimately, I think you got the point of this though with the bar scene in kings. "These other hobbits have no idea".

What I really want is for them to finally appease the hardcore lunatic crowd by finally including Tom Bombadil. But change him to he wears a purple hate and green boots, just to trigger them anyway.
I was wondering if that was going to be Diablo 3 Tyrael guy (the meteor dude), but I don't think it will be.

Sadly, TB is destined to be some weird forest dude enigma forever. Spinoff idea I guess, some sort of "alone" themed LOTR survival show with TB and goldberry living in the forest by the river.
