The Oilers are pretty screwed unless the Panthers have a meltdown. I'm surprised by the poll but then I reminded myself there's a lot of oiler fans and several rooting for them.

I would guess Panthers open at -200 probably start series at -300.
The Oilers are just one of 32 teams.

Now consider how many haters there are among the other 31 fan bases, with some of them approaching 100% of the total fan base.

I think you'll find there are more people voting with their heart AGAINST the Oilers than for them if that's the game you want to play here.

Maybe they can give the Oilers another unfair home advantage by switching to 2-3-2, like they did in 1984.
Yeah those stupid 2-3-2 merchants. Awful team that basically got the cup handed to them on a silver platter.

I want the cup to go to a place where people actually truly care. I want McDavid to hoist it but that being said. This is a really bad matchup for Edmonton. Don't think their D is going to be able to handle Florida's heavy forcheck. Barkov is a bad matchup for the Oilers stars.

Hope I'm wrong but Cats in 6. Florida also gets to shoot on a goalie that literally isn't in the conversation as best in the league and Edmonton finally has to.

McDavid has 23 points in 13 career games vs the Panthers. Barkov is a career -8 vs the Oilers. This is a bad matchup for someone.

Panthers are underestimated, they are made for the playoffs. They belong to the finals, Oilers have some gaping holes and if PP won't work, then it might be over soon. Pressure will only rise and mistakes will happen.

I'm rooting for the Oilers because I want McDavid to win the Cup, but Panthers seem better built.
Pretty sure Edmonton has the most ES goals in the playoffs

We can all spin this narrative if we want, in the last 4 games vs Edmonton Barkov have 5 goals for 6 points and is a +- 0, just don't see how this is relevant for anything in this series.

So the Panthers going 2-0 against the Oilers in the regular season is irrelevant, but what you posted is relevant. Is that how it works?

FYI, neither is relevant to me.
I mean the sample size is at least larger than two games. The Canucks went 4-0 against the Oilers and look how that worked out for them.

Having said that, it's a completely new series and Barkov is beasting so it feels pretty open.

It's actually a super exciting individual matchup between Barkov and McDavid

Clear best defensive vs clear best offensive forward matching up for the first time in the playoffs in the finals, on the heels of 2 such great playoff performances/seasons. How often has such a matchup occured in NHL final history like this?

I lean offense and also want Oilers to win, so I'm hoping McDavid shines through big time, but it'll certainly be fun to see how it plays out.

Barkov was -4 against the Rangers. I feel like the Forsling-Ekblad pairing will have more to do with trying to shut down McDavid.

Bigger sample of how these players perform against each other. Let‘s see what Bob‘s already pitiful playoff sv% looks like after this series, when Barkov and Forsling can‘t cover everyone at the same time.

The Big Smoke (unfortunately)
Also poor CBC/SN/HNIC. They’re not going to know what to do with themselves since they won’t be able to cream themselves constantly over Thachuk and the rest of his pissy teammates now that they’re playing a Canadian team. Well no doubt they’re try. Gives them a fallback position if Edm loses.

plus minus really does not say the full picture, he still held Zib and Panarin pretty much scoreless when it mattered.

I've never cheered for Florida before, so this is a first. To think that state will have won its share of cups after this series.

Nah, they were all pretty happy last night so I imagine they'll still be on that Oilers bandwagon in the finals.
