To be fair it was a rough year for the OHL. 8 kids who were 1st rounders in 2020 didn't go today. Almost 20 of the first 40 from 2020 didn't go. The year off almost certainly plays a factor.

We saw that first hand with Namestnikov, Filak. Took them almost half the year to look comfortable. Hear similar things from all around the league. Not trying to defend them cause I personally wanted Ludwinski or Goyette at 3 over Namestnikov but I give them a bit of a pass this yr because of the season off.

KIT was the same too. Had 7 kids taken & not 1 is Signed lol. Tho it sounds like Mesar is probably coming over. Also from reading interviews I wouldn't get my hopes up with Casey.

As for Moldenhauer

I think next year will be pretty telling as to whether the year off hurt players development and caused not to be drafted or whether this was just a weak year for the OHL. Also, good to here that there's a chance Moldenhauer comes to the Sting.

Interesting that is @Brock’s interpretation on him picked by the leafs. Ryan Hardy seems like Dubas’ right hand man now and Hardy basically is the Chicago Steel (Moldenhauer’s team). The second I saw the leafs take him I assume he was gone for good

Well he won’t be playing with the Chicago steel next year regardless, it’s NCAA or the sting. Voit another leafs draft pick is with the sting. So scouts from the leafs can come check up on them at the same time if he comes to the sting. The two prospects can get to know each other and possibly play and get chemistry with each other. Plus Dubas is a OHL guy. I think it makes sense for the leafs organization. And moldenhauer hasn’t commited to a NCAA school yet. I’m hoping he joins the sting but I’m not holding my breathe.

He could definitely be going back to Chicago Steel next year if he wanted to. Stephen Halliday just got drafted as an 02 (Niagara pick) and he was still in the USHL last year. Fans make a weird thing about having prospects play together. Has an NHL team ever actually gone out of their way to make that happen? Yet fans always act like it’s a real thing. It’s not. They’re the Toronto Maple Leafs. Moldenhauer could play next year on the North Pole and they’d still see every one of his shifts. They don’t need to make him play with Voit to save gas lol

If they sent him to Sarnia it’d be for no other reason than they trust the development process of the OHL. I’m just saying that with Ryan Hardy now really high in the leafs front office, I can guarantee you the Chicago Steel’s development model is being hyped up a ton as the best place for him. Believe he’s all the way up to Dubas’ AGM now

Don't need to produce a 1st rounder every year but a guy you drafted 3rd Overall should get drafted into the NHL.
I think that there is something wrong with this organization. Either they are awful talent evaluators or they have a serious problem developing players to go to the next level. The fact that 02's, 03's and 04's were eligible for this draft and no one on the roster was drafted is pathetic. Burke, Hill, Dann, Filak, Namestikov and Sikic get bypassed, yet London gets two defenseman and two 3rd/4th line forwards drafted..... And guess what? Letang/Seca will trot the same to
FW's out there again next year, and none of them (except Voit) are on the NHL's radar. At least the import kid was drafted, I guess.
Or maybe scouts don't like driving north of the 401. Who knows lol

I highly doubt he goes back to the Chicago steel man, most guys play two years in the ushl then move on. I don’t see any reason why he would stay in that league when almost everyone else is moving on to the ncaa after they played two years in that league. I highly doubt dubas will send him back to the ushl because his bitchboys old team wants him back as a star while all other prospects are moving on to challenge themselves against better competition. And obviously the Richest team in the league (leafs) don’t need to save on gas money lol 😂, I’m just saying he hasn’t commited to ncaa and Voits individual game is succeeding in sarnia why not have moldenhauer with him to develope, sarnia should be top 4 or 5 in the west and moldenhauer will get top 6 minutes, makes sense to me.

Some elite level pt producing players get drafted. The rest are those that consistently play a part in getting wins for their team. NB just had five players drafted, and an OA sign AHL contract.

I Wouldnt look to into man, pano fimis 2nd overall didn’t get drafted, D Spencer sova 8th overall didn’t get drafted, I think he was the first or second defenceman taken in the OHL draft that year. Namestnikov and fimis had pretty much the same point production as Bryce Mcconell-barker and he went in the 3rd round yesterday. Fimis and namestnikov might not have been drafted strickly because of size. Being that size you have to have off the charts talent like Voit. They do have talent but I don’t think it’s on voits level.

Exactly. Not really upset at any 02's or 03's not getting drafted. That's pretty standard. Just upset that the player we pick 3rd overall didn't get drafted.

Like Fimis, Lavoie… many others before them, Namestrov could still be a big part of winning team and get drafted or signed then.

Dubas said yesterday there is no shortage of NCAA programs trying to get Moldenhauer & that makes them feel "very very good about what his options are going to he developmentally in the next number of years"

Swiiiiiiing & a miss.

I don't question going after him as the need for a game breaker is big but man having all these picks idol is gonna kill us in adding high-end talent.

I'll truly never understand how a guy like McSorely gets invited to a development camp but guys like Dann, Burke, Ritchie don't. Even other OHLers like Pano Fimis, Abraham.

Quite literally the only thing he does better is hit which isn't what development camps are for. I see it every yr & it always irks me.

Like them or not, the Hunters have the connections to get kids an invite.Even when they trade players away they try to get them to a team where they can continue their hockey careers.

I understand that to an extent... McSorely had NINE career OHL goals. Dann had triple that in his first OHL season.. Your not even giving yourself a chance to find a potential gem by having wasted invites.

From reading over the 2022 draft thread and the Niagara thread it sounds like Sam Dickinson (#4 overall pick) isn't going to report. If you were the Sting would you try to trade for him (likely would cost multiple 2nd and 3rd round picks) or would you rather save those picks for a big trade at the deadline if the Sting are contending?

I wouldn’t trade for him because it hasn’t worked out with Moldenhauer yet so why try it again? Just not sure why he would report to sarnia and not niagara.
