I have. Limited minutes last season. Absolutely overpay IMO. When you're that height you need a strong skillset which I believe he doesn't have. But as our GM said, he's had a chance to play home.
Ya I don’t like this trade at all, seems like pure stupidity to me. A 18 year old undersized defenceman with average skills who was picked in the 10th round and hasn’t done literally anything in this league. And you give up a 5th and 7th for that? Come on. If I wanted to see local kids play I would go to watch the legionnaires or one of the junior C teams. This league is about the best possible roster you can assemble regardless of where they are from. Makes than Dann trade even dumber, get picks for Dann to use at the deadline then you give up these picks on a local guy who is 7/8 defenceman.

a 5th and a 7th for a 10th round pick who has played under 25 games in the OHL as an 18 year old.......lmfao.
I just can’t get over how dumb this trade is. Those picks could have been valuable to put in a package for a top player, and they waste them on this. Not sure how Seca makes sense of this trade at all. The only thing I can think of is he willing to overpay to get another sarnia kid on the roster. That’s the only logic I can think of.

The only thing that makes sense to me is that maybe we're going to get rid of 1 of our OA Dmen and use some of r picks to go get a good OA forward because I don't see us giving away a 5th and a 7th just to let this kid sit

Tough is good, but still a 5th and 7th for an 18 year old who hasn’t done anything in this league, especially when we could use those draft picks at the deadline. We already have 7 or 8 OHL caliber defenceman. That makes 9 now. Must be another move coming.

Yeah well I don’t like this trade because he will become a fan favourite. I was looking forward to watching him in a full season with the Wolves. I’m really disappointed in this deal. He will be worth more than a 5th and a 7th by the end of this coming season.

Tough as nails and only 21 penalty mins in 22 games.

Papineau usually gets hosed on deals but this one he made out like a bandit. JMO

Ok well we can turn back on this deal in a few months and see where it goes.

It kind of reminds me of getting rid of Ribeau last year and his value sky rocketed as indicated on what Niagara traded him for. Hoover can play 3 seasons IMO he will be a solid add for Sarnia. Doesn’t hurt he’s a local and can only bring more intensity in his game.

The Captain Dillingham would be on the move in that case. Not a chance they move Ritchie.

Maybe Mast playing in the AHL this year. Can't see it, but something is up that hasn't come out yet.
Well, Boston does have the absolute worst rated prospect pool in the league. This would also align with the curse of the Sarnia Sting. Makes sense.

Good return for Hill. Two 4ths is really solid value. So good work there by Seca adding two more picks that'll have some value in a trade down the line..

The Hoover trade.. bit of a head scratcher. Even if he's a better than the stats say, we are set on D. more than set actually. Got the 6 returning D + Campbell who looks more than capable at this level. So dealing a 5th+7th for a guy who will probably sit 90% of the time seems a bit dumb unless they see him as an upgrade over MacDonald, and MacDonald sits most of the time.

It does make me wonder about Young. They acquired him to be the "insurance Dman" that when injuries happen he'd be called up & then next year be a regular. But he wasn't listed even as a scratch last night which was a little odd imo then today we make another move adding a D? Could be nothing, but maybe it was a conditional 12th because he has interest elsewhere.

He's American... Can play in the AHL this year
That means nothing. He's NHL or OHL.

I'll give Seca & Co the benefit of the doubt. They went after Ritchie (who's stats were mediocre) & gave up a 6th & since he's gotten here he's been a stud & is gonna be one of the league's best OA D. They targeted Sikic who was doing much of nothing in GUE & now he's a solid piece in our T6. And I'll give them credit, Romeo has come a long fricken way already from where he was when we got him although i still don't like what we gave up.

These are the type of moves you see contending teams do at the deadline, Seca for whatever reason is doing it now. Depth wins championships. injuries especially to your backend are inevitable & you need guys who can step in & be reliable. you hear it every year when teams win how it's a total team effort & it's true. Your 7th, 8th, 9th D are gonna get games & I'd much rather it be a guy who's at least decent even if it's a slight overpay than someone who's gonna be in over their head. Just look at last yr when our season went to complete sh*t because we could only dress 4D.

Also, talked to someone who said Young is still with the team he just isnt signed that's why he wasn't on the game sheet even as a scratch.

I wish we didn't have to give up Hill. This team's forwards are not great defensively at all and Hill was probably their best 2 way FW. Decent return for him though.

How much better would the defense be with Malyavin? Instead of an 06 rookie, and 04 in MacDonald who didn't play a ton, an 05 in Daviault who can't play defense and now a kid who played in the NOJHL last year, Malyavin would be a top 4 D.....

Marginally if at all. Malyavin simply couldn't stay healthy. If he stayed he'd of been on the 3rd pair. Campbell more than likely is an extra even though he's shown great promise. MacDonald since he's stepped on the ice has looked like a capable 3rd pair Dman & plays a style you want on the 3rd pair + plays PK. Daviault played a ton of minutes last year on a bad team as a 16 yr old & went -3 so he must know how to play some defence.. Does need to learn to play with a bit more urgency though.

Hoover is depth. Not to mention if they kept Malyavin they wouldn't of been able to bring in Lantz who's gonna be a productive forward. Something they needed to add over a 3rd pair Dman who wasn't gonna run either PP over Ritchie or Daviault.

OTT did their first round of cuts, Romeo sent back.

I did forget that Maly would have taken up an import spot. Good point there. I disagree that he would have been 3rd pairing since he is a better d man than that. The kid played for Russia in the U18's as an underager, I believe. Not to say that means everything, but the fact they cherished Daviault over him last year is mind boggling to me.
I'm much happier with Vilmanis and Lantz-- so you're 100% correct.

Hill to SAG for Two 4th round picks and an 11th round pick.
Feel bad for Hill. He wanted to stay here and be one of the franchise s longest serving players. Plus, he was a treat to watch skate. It looked like he floated above the ice some nights. Not a big scorer but a nice piece to have when you are going for it. I'm sure Seca is waiting to see how this team comes out of the gates. If they look good, he flips picks and players for a stud or two.

To me Daviault out played him. Stayed healthy all yr too which probably helped. Malyavin had a lot of bad luck with injuries, covid & all that comes with moving to a new country. Never was able to get into a rhythm.

A lot of talent but durability seems like a real weakness unfortunately. Hopefully he does well in Brandon.
