Sarnia Sting 2022-23 Season Thread (Part 3)

We finally get to see a home game vs Ottawa on Sunday.That was a huge ass kicking last night.
Are the 12 goals scored,a record for most goals by a team this season ?
Go Sting Go !

I think the season high is 13 goals

After 2 periods… 67s own both slots, offensive & defensive.
They all backcheck like Sikic, Vilmanis& Anderson… 100%.
On offense, like to get over the blueline, hit the brakes & find trailer coming up the middle.
Lots of low, very deflectable point shots - will have to tie up guys in the slot.
Can be victimized by stretch passes up the middle.
Generally a very good team but we can beat them with efforts like the sting have shown lately.
Looking forward to Sunday.

After a couple minutes of the 3rd period, Ottawa can be pretty good when you give ‘em a 4 minute power play and when you pass it to them in front of your own net…

I am itching to get to this puck drop. Been a long while since one had a big game feel but this one does.

Top team in the league vs the hottest team in the league. Two very talented teams. 4 guys in the top 8 in league scoring. Top 2 offensive Dmen in the league all in this game.

Gonna be a real test for the boys, but if they play there game I like our chances. Need all 4 lines, pairs & Ben to play well.

Should be fun!

man, would have been big to hit on one of those two power plays. Gotta get shots through. One to many passes. Overall I feel like we carried most the play. Playing with good composure. Ottawa will get their power plays coming up. This one may come down to whose got the better special teams.

Really cool tour of what the sting are doing for renovations on the cogeco broadcast. Actually really impressive. Their dressing room is going to be one of the bests. Social areas for the players and everything. Huge investment.

Think so? 3rd was a pretty sweet shot. 1st I think went off Ritchie but he was off his angle a bit.

Bummer. Just couldn’t finish and capitalize enough on the power play. Do think we needed Ben to make a big save there but just not happening. Ottawa doesn’t put up with the cute little plays. Props to them for shutting it down. Sarnia needs to learn to approach teams like this differently. Skill won’t win many vs a team like that. Hard work and ugly goals win these types of games.

Dangit. Thought we played right with them all game. Special teams let them down a bit for the first time in awhile.

Ben made some huge saves, but I'm sure he'd like one just to keep it at 3.

Idk about that PS call. Idk how u drop ur stick on a stick lift but whatever. They called a very soft game all day which was annoying.

Great to see Vilmanis to get one. He needed that. Thought L4 was really strong again which is nice to see vs a deep team.

Another great crowd. Excited to go back & see what ur talking about with renos Ferda.

Heck of a squad u guys got! Best defensive team I've seen. Both games vs u were a complete chess match. U guys just finished on 2 more looks than us. Best of luck!

I'm with you on Ben. Thought he needed to have the first goal and the PS goal too. Overall, thought the team played a solid game but it was the small details that did them in. Gaudreau's angle was off on the first goal, it was a 2v4 or 2v3 on the Pinelli goal and somehow he had tons of room, and then an unfortunate fall by Ritchie leading to the PS. As Ferda said, they did try to get a little too cute at times. Against a team like Ottawa you're not going to get anything from the outside. All three of our goals came near the blue paint today. Hopefully the Sting can learn from this one and get a big win to start the road trip off in North Bay on Thursday

Just a few thoughts..... Massive let down they lost that game.... Ottawa coming off a huge road trip and the Sting were rested. Sarnia's power play is shockingly bad. Gaudreau letting in wrist shots is still an issue... his third goal was back breaking you simply cannot let in wrist shots from the circle. Even the penalty shot the puck goes through him and the first goal should not go in. Its weird the posts above said Ben played good... I could not disagree more. Any time Sarnia plays a good team two things are given... They will be out coached and the other team will have a better goalie. All in all just a typical Sarnia big game let down. The refs were on our side and we still couldn't get it done.... Also awful penalty by Belluz at the end. I don't think Ottawa is even that good. They have been playing bad lately. Sorry for the rambling but geez man thats just so disappointing.

Renovations definitely sounds sweet! Unfortunate this year's group won't see it haha.

Gotta give Hatcher & Legwand credit. They are committed to this working. Pouring a ton of money into this team & have had little return lol.

Especially with the next 2-3 seasons looking troublesome haha. Hopefully helps recruiting some guys over the years.

5 minutes to play with an offensive zone face-off and Letang comes out with a blend of 3rd and 4th lines. Play goes to the sting zone and next up is a penalty shot. Not sure why they are on the ice for an offensive zone draw with 5 to play. Also agree Benny would like to have that 3rd goal back. Did make a few good saves in the third to give us a chance.

L4 has been incredibly consistent for us. I have no issues putting them out. 6 minutes left, the previous 2 shifts were L2 & L1. Don't wanna double shift them & then have them completely gassed when the goalies out.

If Ritchie doesn't blow a tire nothing happens. Just unfortunate that happens. Agree on Ben. He made 3or4 huge saves in the 3rd. Sucks the PS got thru him. Like I said he wasn't terrible or even bad. Just would've liked to get 1 of the 4 to keep it at 3 vs such a stingy team like OTT.

Third period Anderson was on the ice every other shift... I like him but were behind and he creates zero offence. Sarnia, no matter who they play will always start the game at a disadvantage because their coaching is abysmal.
