I lean to that, but if it's the difference in getting bounced in RD2 or RD3 & winning it all then its worth it..especially for this cursed franchise.
Yah I was shocked how bad u guys looked. Your Defense was putrid. Felt for Onuska. He came off mad as heck. Went down the hall & smashed a whole bunch of things lol.
I think we can all agree this was a Sellers market. When it is a Sellers market, it typically means there are a lot of buyers. A lot of buyers means a hell of a lot of competition. That means more teams you gotta fight through.
What I am trying to get at is there seems to be this assumption that Sarnia has a clear path to the OHL Finals. That’s not true becuase some other really good teams made significant additions as well. The playoffs start in Round Two. That means Sarnia is going to face three top shelf teams if they make it to the OHL Finals.
The BIGGEST problem is in a sellers market, selling teams can pull of deals for players like Martone and VanVolsen whereas when its a buyers market they cannot.
So, what is the result? Sarnia pays a huge price to be part of a bigger group of competition. Hamilton last year paid a smaller price to be a part of a smaller group of competition. They paid less and separated themselves from all other teams in their Conference to set up one round of battle (against Windsor).
Lesson learned? If you are going to make a big push, do it when there is a buyers market. Not only will you pay less but there are less teams to battle through.
If I had to guess, Sarnia plays Windsor and London in Round 2 and 3. Tough battles. Then Peterborough, North Bay, Barrie, or Ottawa in the Final.
I applaud the moves because they were ballsy and I love the drama. I know the timing doesn’t line up to a Buyera market so not like you can just pick and choose the right timing. It is jsut unfortunate Sarnia had the poor luck to line up with so many other teams.
