Does anyone know if the Moldenhauer conditions are if he signs with Sarnia only?
If that is the case, management should trade his rights to get those picks back.

In return from the Sting, Ottawa also receives seven conditional picks. If Moldenhauer plays a game in the OHL, the 67’s will receive a combination of:

  • A 2022 third-round selection (Erie)(Returned to Sarnia pick #45 Sean Doherty)
  • A 2023 fifth-round selection (Sarnia)
  • A 2024 second-round selection (Sarnia)
  • A 2024 third-round selection (Sarnia)
  • A 2025 second-round selection (Sarnia)
  • A 2025 third-round selection (Sarnia)
  • A 2025 fourth-round selection (Sarnia)
There are no conditions on the 67's compensatory first-round pick, or on Sarnia’s 15th-round choice.

Correct me if I'm wrong but do the Sting have to wait until Moldenhauer's ohl eligiblity is over before they recoup all those picks ?
Let's say he makes the nhl in 2024.

How does that work ?
I’m actually not 100% positive the OHL has a system like this, I’ve never heard of a high profile situation handled In such a manner.

However most other sports leagues have it where you hold a players “rights”, if they aren’t on your team - for whatever reason if you don’t want to hold the rights to that player anymore you can essentially go to the league and tell them - we no longer hold exclusive rights to this player, he if free to sign anywhere if he do pleases.

Theoretically this would get the sting off the hook for the picks.

Welp this conference went from wide open to 7 deep in a hurry lmao. London, Windsor, Kitchener all adding significantly. Saginaw still rolling atop the conference. Owen Sound & Flint still have really solid rosters & could add..

We are 10 points out of 1st so unless we go crazy in the 2nd half we will be playing in a 3-6/4-5 matchup more than likely vs a WSR/SAG/OS/FLT/KIT.

Oh brother.

Oh brother.

two very good teams will lose in the first round, just have to hope that you didnt give up 5 years worth of picks to do so.

If this franchise has taught me anything it's that Sarnia will be one of those two teams.

I really don't think there's much separating the teams but goaltending & special teams win series & those have been 2 major problems for us. Got a couple months to try & figure it out..

The conditions are if he plays a game in the OHL. It matters not what team he plays those games for. You cannot renounce rights of a player to get out from under the conditional picks given to another team.

Just imagine if he didn’t sign in Sarnia right away and Sarnia decided it wasn’t worth the wait and jsut “renounced “ his rights and he signs with London. London gets the player for free, Ottawa gets nothing.

Do you honestly think that scenario is even possible?

the way that it works is if you waive and release him and he plays, you still owe the picks. if sarnia was to trade him, they would need to pick up as many pics as they would have to give. the whole trade was silly

That was what I was suggesting.

Now I assume Ottawa can't move those pick as well unless Sarnia signs him. Therefore their cupboard will be 7 picks less [(2)2nds, (3)3rds, 4th & 5th] to make their trades.

That’s my point. No matter what, Sarnia owes the picks until he plays or officially doesn’t.

look at conditional picks as being held in escrow until the conditions are met or the time runs out.

Mast, Voit, Pastujov, Lantz, Dillingham, Ritchie, Burke are all gone. Gaudreau seemed like a guarantee as well, but if his play doesn't improve rather drastically i can't see SJS turning him pro.

Oh man I like Del Mastro haha. He's a tank. What a play on Bedard's goal. Great block on a high quality chance + some nice hits. Very efficient with his puck movement, too.

He plays a game-high 28 minutes. 1 assist & goes +4. Absolute monster game from him. These last 2 games have gotten me rather excited about the prospect of adding him lol.

Hopefully the boys close it out tomorrow & Ben & Letang come back with gold!

Windsor is about to get even better. Making another trade. Nothing crazy but their depth on F & D is elite. West is a complete arms race now & I am not loving how we stack up unless we add 2 more Fs. oy..

I believe that the Conditional picks offered by Ottawa would have a time period prior to the conditional picks being incurred.

No way you can say conditional as long as he plays a game in the OHL, and then offer picks prior to his OHL career would end?

You will enjoy Del Mastro in Sarnia soon, but miss Martone.

Sarnia is all in now.

God I hope so. Wish there was clarity when these type of deals are made. Some teams are very specific & others aren't insightful at all.

Del Mastro will definitely be a fan favorite. Moving Martone hurts. A lot. I'm a huge believer in that kid. If we don't go on a run (west is stacked..) this will be incredibly damaging.
