Time for another chapter in my novel - Why do I do this to myself every year -

I've been Mr. Optimistic this season & I really do love this team/league, but it'll truly be really hard to wanna continue supporting this franchise if they at the very least don't get to round 3 this year (low bar for us in Sarnia! lol).. They've already spent a lot on Pastujov, Kyrou & I continue to be told we will be getting Del Mastro & it's very likely for Martone.

So while we get the Moldenhauer picks back (2nds, 3rds in 2024 & 2025) we will be left with very little including this yr where we likely have only 1 or 2 picks in the opening 6-7 rounds. Given up Namestnikov (18), Daviault (17) & if it is true, Martone (16) & who knows if that's it. They need another F if they truly wanna contend & with their lack of picks it would cost MacDonell or Wainwright + Young.

With all those guys not traded next years team looked average at best with Voit, Burke Mast, Ritchie, Dillingham, Lantz, Gaudreau (not a sure thing anymore) all moving on. So with them gone next years team will suck & we won't have a trade asset that'll fetch more than maybe a 3rd, definitely no 2nds unless someone really exploded.

There'd be very little to be excited about. They'll be in rebuild mode & have no super promising young F with complete unknowns in net. It at the very least would be 2 years of rebuilding before we'd have a solid team (could be longer) & if you're coming off another playoff disappointment I'm just not sure how u could sell anybody on spending money on this team.. Like seriously we'd be talking another DECADE long streak of zero playoff success. They are quite literally in conversation of being the worst, least successful team in the ENTIRE CHL.

I can confidently say I'd have a hard time finding the will, or passion to keep running my account (I know who cares lol) let alone forking over 400-500-600 dollars on this team again knowing they won't be good for 2-3-4 more years where they'll just inevitably fail again because frankly this team is fricken cursed for whatever f*cking reason.

In saying all that, I really do believe in this roster's potential, and I know many don't & that's perfectly fine & how can anybody blame you for that. I'm the idiot for having hope in this org with their history. Gonna be a hectic 10 days upcoming as the deadline approaches. See how it all goes down.. 🍺

If playoff success is the key then spend and go all in for this year. What would a successful season look like? 2nd round 3rd round?

If they lose in the 1st round again this year I think a group of us on this board should get a chance at being the management group. We couldn't be that much worse than what we've had in the past

I feel you man. It’s tough. You gotta be optimistic…you really have no choice. Especially given the history of this franchise. This is where I struggle with my feelings about this team this year. Part of me wants to just say fu@k it and go all in, but the other part is saying no, don’t trade the Martones or MacDonnell’s etc. All I know is personally, I need to see some damn results for once. For me, that’s western conference final or nothing. That’s what I’m looking for. Based off a few things I’ve heard recently, this teams management is all in, and they mean business. I think the patience from the top is starting to wear thin. Expectations are not being met from within and management is not happy with performances.

Let’s see what happens with this Del Mastro thing and give this team til the deadline to give us a clear understanding of what to expect. Some leniency needs to be given after all the injuries and lack of cohesion is to be expected with such a diminished line up.

I’m 50/50 at this point. No idea what to expect. Just hoping it finally works out for once. My interest as a fan has been taking hits for years. Not much left in the tank for me either.

Sarnia will probably land in the 4-5 slot for playoffs ... in my opinion there is no way Flint jumps them but I may be wrong... the top 3 teams are basically set unless someone gets really hot or cold.... Sarnia will get either Flint or Owen Sound which Sarnia should win no question.... but we all know nothing good happens when Sarnia makes the playoffs.

Flint has been shitting the bed just as much as us thankfully. Wonder if their plan has changed going into the deadline?

It would be a bloody shame if we didn’t get home ice with this roster….

I'm stunned they didn't add a legit F quickly after trading Othmann.. felt like such a given. Leaves such a significant hole in their F unit & it's never been addressed.

He really bumped up some of their guys #s & without him they aren't producing as much. In our last 3 meetings with them it's been the Lombardi show with very little elsewhere.

We'll see what Windsor does. Their GM is very patient & methodical. Doesn't seem overly willing to spend this season, but maybe does something sneaky.

London is gonna add a F or two & they'll be a real problem. OS has really struggled the last 15 games surprisingly. They have a ton of '03s & I wonder if one is available as next yr is their go for it yr & they'll lose value as OAs..

KIT has all the talent in the world. Be interesting to see them next time we play. Do wonder about there ability to handle physicality & the rough stuff.

The east teams are about to go nuts from what I hear.. like really nuts. BAR has gotten hot & Clarke is coming back & they are absolutely loaded on picks. PBO all-in & ott is loaded too.

Milic gets tomorrow's game as expected. Gaudreau riding the pine the rest of the way it appears. Right call imo.
Yah not a surprise. He played well yesterday. Think had he struggled even a little Ben may have got a shot, but Milic deserves it.

Canada is so clearly the most talented, deep team. If they just get steady goaltending gold is there's.

Given that Gaudreau has lost the net for team Canada and that he's been sub par w the sting hiw does everyone think he will perform when he returns? Will he be lacking confidence even more or hungry and refreshed ?

One would think it would be hungry for sure.. He's got a million people doubting his abilities. If that isn't motivation to get back on track to prove them all wrong, then I don't know what is.

OS struggles began when Chenard got injured .

They played about 10 mins with a full roster early in December, before our leading pt getter had his face broken .

Playing without 2 top 6 forwards, in a bit of free fall, they're still ahead of Sarnia and Flint .

Playoffs are all about goaltending .

There’s London making their splash. Winterton and Humphrey from Hamilton. They are still expected to add a certain someone. I’m sure you could figure it out yourself if you read the London board. If that one comes to fruition as expected, London just walked away with the conference.

Want to elaborate errrrrr?
Think LDN maybe overpaid. Spending their 1st rounder (Testa) on a kid who hasn't played a game this yr that's had back 2 back major shoulder surgeries & another kid who has 5 goals this yr seems like a lot.

Didn't have to give up many picks but still usually your 1st rounder only goes for the elite of the elite.

Still a good add. Like winterton a lot if be stays healthy..

Hard to really say they overpaid or underpaid honesty. Speculating is exactly that….speculating. The reverse could be said and Winterton could stay healthy and repeat his performance for London like he did last season with Hamilton. No doubt this is a brilliant trade for Hamilton, but it could even itself out and be equally as beneficial for London. You gotta respect that the Hunters know what they are doing. It’s been repeatedly proven. Testa sounds like he may have been the one lucky player that Dale always seems to have a tissy with for some reason. Seems there’s always at least one rookie who gets the cold shoulder from Dale. His ice time seems to be pretty limited according to the London thread. Works out for the kid too. He will be better for the more ice time he’ll get in Hamilton.

If London still adds who we think they are adding, they all of a sudden just pushed themselves past the rest of the west imo. Players who have been on long playoff runs and seen championships add a lot of other things you don’t always see on the stat sheet. Can’t undervalue experience.
