Sarnia Sting 2022-23 Off-Season Thread (Part 4)

Got concussed. The day he went to get cleared they discovered he had mono. Came back & first game he hurt his shoulder.

Came back again & 2nd game back he got ran from behind. Been about as unlucky a yr for a player I have ever seen.

Tough year for sure. Sarnia gave up two picks for him. Hopefully the rest of his OHL career he can remain healthy.

He was terrific as well. Laying 2or3 big hits a game, dropping the gloves & all around good D play. Hopefully can catch a break.

Can’t remember if someone mentioned but I thought that was the best officiated OHL game I’ve seen in a very very long time. When’s the last time only one penalty was called? There were a few minor ones that could have been called on both sides but I’m all for not calling anything if you’re gonna do it consistently, which is what they did. Good stuff.

32 tickets left for tomorrow & they are all solo ones. Be another sellout. Believe that'll make it every playoff game + a couple later regular season ones. Tremendous.

Boys gotta come out the way they finished G1 & they'll be in great shape. When they skated, SAG couldn't handle them. Thought we got to the net at will when we were skating hard.

Think Vilmanis would have his way in this series if he was healthy. Hopefully, Gaudreau can build off his G1 performance opposed to how it went in RD1. PP is beyond due. Feel like they get one.

Almost a perfect period of hockey. Sting dominated the first 18mins of that period and it wasn’t even close. Could have had a few more for sure. Big power play goal…needed to get one of those…hopefully it starts clicking more going forward. 12% conversion rate won’t win a championship.

Need next goal. Domination for a period and only up 1 can be formula for an upset. Keep the pedal down.

some push back from Saginaw for sure. They had a couple real good looks. Can’t believe DBB hit the post on that wide open net..ouch.

As soon as they didn’t call that MASSIVE hook on Voit, I knew Sag was gonna tie it up. Typical. Game is likely over if that’s called.

Sting not desperate enough and look tired as hell. Gotta find another gear in OT…

Terrible third period. Saginaw absolutely dominated us. Mind you they did get two bogus PPs. Looked like the team has gradually slowed down throughout the game today. Need to step it up and get more traffic in front of Lennox. Way too many clean sight lines for him

Phew, what a way to get win 2! Wish I could have been there to be apart of that goal, bet the hive was BUZZING!

Wasn’t pretty but gotta love the ability to dig deep in OT after an ugly 3rd. Good character comeback. 47 shots on Lennox who was phenomenal. Our boy Ben wasn’t to bad either I guess lol. Another awesome performance for him.

Another 2-0 series lead start…..gotta love it, regardless on how they come!

Good performance by both goalies. Sting needed to come out harder in the third to try and get another goal or two, yet they say back and let Saginaw bring it to them just can’t do that have to keep pushing to get a bigger lead. Refs should be embarrassed after those calls/mis call in the third. They need to start being disciplined for their pathetic performance or else it’s not going to change.

Kitchener gets their best player and their leader back and they hammer the knights. I think that’s going to be a long hard fought series. Fun to watch that’s for sure!

Yah not a fan of that 3rd period. We usually always press hard like Friday. Idk if it's the illness or if Lennox was so good they decided to try only D, but to passive!

That save on Hill was phenomenal. I thought it was a for sure goal. Finally the PP comes alive!!! Voit was terrific, DBB GWG & 12 shots. Pastujov was buzzing. That kick pass by 86 in the GWG was unreal.

D is still doing a great job keeping SAG to the perimeter. A lot of outside, no screen saves for Ben. But he made some terrific ones in the 3rd & OT. Crazy how good he is when he's on. Not even the same goalie.

Take the 2 Ws especially with 22&61 out. We really miss them. 22 would be all over this series as SAGs D struggles vs the cycle & size. Really miss 61s transition game & outlet passing. Hopefully they are back for G3.

They missed calls both ways, but definitely felt like we got the short end of the stick in that 3rd. MacDonald "head check" was Comical. Dude tackled 96 on a BA. How is that not called. Another phenomenal crowd. 50/50 almost 15K again.

Refs did a good job for the first 2 periods but the third was a real sh@t show . The non call on the the hook on Voit with about 2 minutes left was inexcusable. It was blatant . It’s likely the Spirit don’t score with 40 seconds left had that been called . Lucky for the Sting they still came out on the right side of this one .

Refs were pretty awful for sure .... however.... Dillingham needs to realize a head down huge hit will likely result in a penalty ... tbh I did see a wee bit of elbow in there... if it were up to me that would not be a penalty but.... the league has been trying to move away from that play for awhile now and Dillingham needs to be smarter.... Buzz let Saginaw hang around for far too long.... imo it should have been 2 or 3-0 in the first period.... give Lennox credit he played great and almost stole a win.... Buzz need to find a way to score more 5 on 5 goals going forward.... With a win today Sarnia is now on its second best playoff run ever..... 6 wins... behind the 97' team that had 7 wins.... doesnt matter how you win, just win... keep it going
