Or maybe they can just... use the pick in June? I like the trades they've made and I know it's become the flavour of the deadline that picks mean very little percentage wise and/or won't help for 18 years but you still also need to draft and develop players.

I really hate this trade. Just.. I don't get it at all unless Sandin asked for a trade. Why are we keeping Holl over Sandin?
Sandin is 3rd option PP, and 7th D man he was hurt too often

The Leafs were hoping he were the 2option by this time and getting regular 3rd pair minutes, but his defence didn't allow that usage nor did his offense, and he was hurt too often.

Holl isn't every mothers dream by a long shot, but he is a decent puck handler, and his defence is a lot better than is Sandins and is no worse than Rielly's, and he's almost never hurt

Have think Sandins hold out didn’t sit well with management. Shaved some money and recouped a 1st.

Something else has to be cooking.

I don’t think the hold out did anything to management. I think they’ve honoured Sandin’s request and it’s also a no brainer, you’re getting a first rounder for Sandin who on their roster was a 3rd pairing dman. (Yes I believe he’s a top 4 dman) but on the leafs he’s never going to be a top 4 guy.

Sandin’s hold out was justified, he’s felt slighted by the organization. They continually filled up the left side lol. He had a right to be upset. Sad to see Sandin go but this will be a great move for his career.

My initial thought is that there might be another trade coming, where we were offering Sandin, but they preferred the 1st, so we are going to be flipping this pick pretty quickly.

Sucks for Sandin to go. Dude crushed in third pairing minutes.

But tbh, writing was on the wall after we acquired Jake McCabe

Yeah and he shouldn't be. But Keefe has a boner for Justin f***ing Holl so f*** Rasmus.
Sandin doesn't play the right side particularly well. Holl is reasonably competent there.

Rielly, McCabe, Giordano, Sandin on the left side... someone sits... I really like Sandin's game, and moving him disappoints me... but I get why this trade was done. Sandin now has no spot on this roster, until the 2024/25 season, barring injuries. So, you've got to move him.

Sandin was probably at best our 3LD for the next 3 years... not too upset with this, we got a 1st, and a flippable asset, I really don't think Gustafsson stays with us

I think there was some bad blood from Sandin holding out over peanuts earlier in the year but the return value is solid.

GL to Sandin with the Caps rebuild.

They basically replaced Sandin with McCabe moving forward. Gustavsson is just a depth LD piece having a huge season and they get a 1st rounder to spend on something else at some point.
Seems like a really weak return for a young NHL quality Damn, though, particularly one that's trending towards top-4.

I don’t get it, are you telling me we traded away Dubas’s first draft pick.. a guy from the Soo??? But Dubas tries too hard to keep his guys and isn’t cutthroat enough, this doesn’t make any sense. Has he already been replaced behind the scenes?

I don't know how the Leafs are outbidding anyone for Chychrun, a super late 1st shouldn't change that.

If Dubas trades for a legit goalie now I'll be impressed
