Sandin is too small and too slow to give the Leafs what they need on defence. He just can't catch guys and move them out from the net.

He might be good at left wing instead, like Gary Leeman.

My thoughts on Sandin, he is exposed down low due to his size. He cant clear the net front, he cant defend the forecheck vs big wingers. He is injury prone. Yes, Sandin has good hockey sense but is a poor skater and has been caught out of position recovering from his pinches. Rushing the puck, he has the iq and the hands but not the foot speed. Leafs won this trade, imo. Im surprised they got a 1st.

I'm not sure Mete or Benn are NHL defenseman on a contender.
They are not playing. You don't think they are 9 and 10 on a contender?

Now look at Tampa's 4 thru 7 D.....is this a 4 thru 7 on a contender?

Ian Cole
Nick Perbix
Zach Bogosian
Haydn Fleury

If you are 9th/10th on the depth chart you are not an NHL player.

I am not sure why we are talking about Tampa here but I like Cole/Perbix a lot. I view Cole=Giordano right now, Perbix=Liljegren and Bogosian=Schenn. Fleury is just bad. I am watching the TBL/FLA game right now and JBB just said he's most likely done making moves so that bodes well if you think their D is bad.

Have to admit when I saw Sandin to Washington I thought Wilson was coming back.
Would love Wilson on this team, but with the microscope we have on our team he’d get suspended faster than kadri ever did lol

Not sure if it's been mentioned here but Gustaffson hasn't really been a PP merchant this season. He has more ES points than any Leaf defenseman (27). He has 0.94 primary points/60 at ES compared to 0.73 for Rielly.

Isn't that an oxymoron because NHL teams don't carry 9-10D?

He also starts far more in the offensive zone than any of the Leafs defense do.

His Ozone start 5v5 % is 15.5 vs Riellys 9.1

Value makes sense, sad to see a young promising player go, but he was unlikely to get the minutes here to improve his value so selling now made sense.
Precise analysis. And sitting him this playoff would have led to off season unhappiness. Dealing with his unhappiness now for a very good return is very intelligent

I'm just trying to point out that his production isn't strictly PP and he has been effective at ES too. Having 6% more Ozone starts than Rielly doesn't make 30% higher production a moot point.

He also starts noticeably less in the Dzone 5v5 also.

Crazy high 5v5 Ozone starts, with almost league bottom Dzone starts 5v5 (out of 1000 minute defense, ranks #1 least) will certainly play a large role in being able to put up good offensive numbers.

For someone who never starts in the Dzone, his defensive zone turnovers are quite alot.

Where are you finding this data? I'd love to dive in.

Moneypuck .

I posted this in another thread but here's how he ranks 5v5 out of defensemen who've played at least 1000 minutes

#1 least amount of Dzone starts % of 56 qualified D

#1 Most amount of Ozone shift start %
