I don't know what to tell you. Not sure why you're trying to derail this thread and bring up Tampa in the first place. You are entitled to your opinion just as I am mine. I am a very numbers heavy guy and Perbix grades out similarly to Liljegren and Cole grades out similar to Gio this year.

This is a weird trade because you would assume, the Leafs would want to maybe bring in an equivalent forward if you are moving a young D like Sandin. At least from where I'm sitting.. or at least try and get Jensen from the Caps?

My gut tells me they will both be shipped - for sure that 1st rounder. They could keep Gustafsson if they feel they absolutely need a PP specialist as an extra. He does bring an element there.

i like the move but honestly the masterstroke was probably to trade sandin and extras to washington for orlov and hathaway ..... we can dream but getting both mccabe, orlov, lath and hath in a double combo trade would have been insane.

Perbix is going to be good. Tampa guys like him and he surpassed Cal Foote. That said, the rest of the D might be questionable and Hedman is having a down year.

I could be wrong, but I think Gustafson stays. I do not think that Keefe wants to play Timmins in the playoffs this year. (IMO he is a work in progress with a great future, but is not ready yet.)

The Leafs want 8 defencemen; I see Gustafson (left side) and Schenn (right side) as the extras who will get some spot starts, but will be needed if there is an injury. I do not see any more changes to the defense this year.

Sandin was blocked the rest of this year, and next year by McCabe and Gio. And he can't play the right.

He got a nice return for a healthy scratch. It is what it is. Looking at this, they are similar except that Gustafsson can actually keep up with the play.

Not sure if true; but there had been rumours that Sandin wanted out. He had held out as RFA, wanted premium minutes and wasn't happy delegated to 3rd pair duties. I thought he would be shipped in the offseason but oh well...

That points are nice, but you have to look at him getting top offensive minutes when Carlson went out. Orlov was also hurt quite a bit. I like the move but have to look at these factors.

The heavy usage this season has greatly improved his defending as compared to prior seasons.....he's now average.

It's a LHD vs RHD thing.

McCabe added to the LHD so there's gotta be an odd man out. Holl's right handedness is what keeps him going here.

Adding Gustafsson to the mix makes no sense either.

Gustaffson IMO is an insurance policy incase there is an injury to any LHD

2) McCabe
3) Gio
4)Gustaffson/Mete/Benn (if needed)

On the right side we got
1) Lily
2) Brodie
3) Schenn/Holl

Maybe. While I think he has his qualities, I also have to assume that his acquisition was secondary to that 1st round pick. I can't see him holding down a regular role in the top six if he does stick around. The reacquisition of Schenn also spells some degree of trouble for one of the RD holdovers as well IMO (won't be surprised if that ends up being Holl).
