The QC
I thought maybe this year would be our Boston year from last season, where they actually cared every single night and we cruised all season. That part of me is dead now. I was so young then, foolish.

Another year of just being a very good regular season team instead of a truly dominant one I guess.

Willy and Matty showed up, not many others.
But what about the lessons? Won't somebody think about the lessons?!!

We're just as top heavy as we've ever been. Knies needs to be playing with Matthews or Tavares, not another rookie. We should have had Nylander taking 3C reps in exhibition games, now he'll be figuring it out during the regular season when Minten inevitably gets sent down. Keefe rushed back to his stacked top 6 safety net after one bad preseason game. Insane.

Oh well. It's early I guess.
For sure. Willy has been the best player on this team by a mile..and i mean in all zones as that guy is literally working the corners and trying to win battles...Really wants that next contract....But hey whatever motivates him...The others are nowhere near him in terms of overall effort and just make these lazy plays(i gave up the last 5 minutes or so as it was awful to watch).

The 2 new guys(Bertuzzi and Domi) have looked very meh this whole preseason and the first 3 games. Maybe lack of chemistry with linemates but i don't know... I just don't like how they generally don't look impressive in anything they do(passing, decision making, winning battles, etc). Tonight Matthews line especially looked like they couldn't do anything and Chicago wasn't really doing anything special to them(i mean this will be one of the worst teams in the league this year...seen all their games so far and not really impressed with them except Bedard of course).

Not good enough. Bottom 6 is bad. The 3rd line is young so won't harp on them except Domi. 4th line isn't much better but we decided it was fine to pay over 1 million for fights, and Kampf is one dimensional.
On defence, we have seen the good and bad of Klingberg in 3 games. Brodie's been hit and miss. McCabe is a mess. Gio is aging but don't think he's been bad. Rielly and Liljegren have been good.
Goalies aren't helping either.
Matthews and Nylander are carrying the team so far. Marner is his usual slow starter self. Bertuzzi needs to be better. There should more criticism on him.

Marner 25+ minutes on the night while playing like complete shit. Keefe never learns…
This franchise really favors Marner too much.

Any decent team/coach puts rookies with veterans to help them gain confidence; the jackass we have has Knies-Minten going against NHL caliber players every night. They will lose their confidence this way. Its not the right way to develop young players who are not drafted as stars.

I really feel bad for the both the kids
This all depends on the makeup of the player.

Some will be ready and some won't.

I hope tge Leafs have done enough homework on their characters to know for sure if they can handle adversity

I imagine Treliving will bring Timmins into this mess. Even if he's not a defensive stalwart, he's young, put on muscle, and is most importantly mobile. Surely he can't get any further behind the play than Gio, Brodie and Klingberg.

We’re now 2-1 and I think it reflects our play. As we said after the wins, this defence is not very good. McCabe has been particularly bad but so has Brodie.

We have xpected this. But by far, the biggest disappointment has been Domi. I see nothing there. He’s not gritty, he’s really antsy with the puck, and his defensive zone coverage has been brutal.

Finally, if Reaves isn’t going to hit, or give Perry a pounding, wtf good is he on the ice? Let’s see if he earns his spot on the team by engaging with Bennett on Thursday.

My thoughts:
Nylander was the best forward. Man was buzzing
Woll was good enough to win, maybe have one of the breakaways but this game isn’t on him at all
Marner was atrocious, flubbed pucks, lost it too easily, and just couldnt so much offensively, which he is paid to do
Minten doesn’t look ready, he had chances so he has the iq to be here, but he isn’t ready. Should send him down and find a 3C replacement
McCabe was awful, we need help on the 2LD, whether that’s moving Brodie down and grabbing a top4 RD or grabbing a legit #2-3 dman and move McCabe down
Bert was bad, domi was invisible, 3rd line is underwhelming in production, get knies off that line

13 goals against in 3 games, ain't going to win much giving up 4.33gpg. The 4th line is getting absolutely destroyed against, and we've had all home games. Not good.

Just what the hell happened in the last minute?

Both teams had a goal waived off?

Score was madness while updating my phone.

Will he take those comments back? A reminder, Marner was the only one from the core who took offense to those comments when Keefe criticized them last year.

What a dumb comment by him. Nylander and Matthews were legit the only 2 players I thought had a good game. Tavares was fine, Marner was bad. But like the bottom 6 invisible 3rd game in a row, and defence was a tirefire. Woll was also average at best.

Also forgot to add, bedard was pretty good. He had the post on the pp, he had the dash against klingberg, he had a few other looks. The puck didn’t go in, but I thought he looked very good; especially compared to the last couple of 1st overall picks

Knies, Minten, Domi, Lily, Samsanov, Keefe. Have provided nothing of value through 3 games.

The defence in general has been awful even by Leaf standards.

I thought Liljegren had looked good carrying the puck and making those long passes. He's rubbing out his man along the boards too.

I know he's fanned on a couple pucks, but overall he's been great.

So by your logic, Bedard shouldn't be on the first line

I had a tough time staying awake to watch that one. Bertuzzi looks like a fkn Hanson bro out there and should be a Chief. I thought he was supposed to be decent...

Nylander was easily the best F tonight. Also thought Klingberg played decent

And is it just me? Or does Bedard not come off as a whiney bitch? Saw him many times out there rolling his eyes and slamming his stick like a baby.
