this is an example of the grass is greener syndrome, has always been prevalent among Leafs fans. We rail on Kerfoot and pine for Bennett.

I agree with that I mean its not like kerfoot is killing it for us. Like you said it may not work out but Bennett provides something we sorley lack. Nick Ritchie at least this year is looking like the player he was supposed to be. A new team and system could change that for Bennett especially his favourite team growing up as long as leafs fans don't put Doug Gilmour expectations on him.Not sure its a grass is greener thing, when you are looking for reclamation projects, you hope for better but know the likelihood of that is low. Calgary is scoring at close to a Ottawa Senators pace, Kerfoot makes sense for them. Bennett is in a RFA year, has untapped potential, is more of a grinder than Kerfoot, has more bite to his game, has potential to be a cheaper 3rd line C. It's like buying a lottery ticket, rarely they pay off but sometimes they do.
Kerfoot isn't having a great season points wise.this is an example of the grass is greener syndrome, has always been prevalent among Leafs fans. We rail on Kerfoot and pine for Bennett.
Kerfoot isn't having a great season points wise.
And playoffs he doesn't do much .
Bennett not great points wise but also adds a physical elent.
Playoffs he shows up.
Bennett for me.

We are one the same page.Kerfoot for Bennett @ 50-75% should free up enough cap space to find a better #3C at the TDL. This team would be so much more of a threat to win it all if they had a couple more crash and bangers IMO.
Spez , Big Joe.
Neither guy looks like they can handle that workload though. Spezza gets like 8 minutes a game and Thornton looks like they want him on the wing
Pierre can handle center.
Pierre can handle center.
We can’t do Kerfoot for Bennett and Calgary doesn’t need a Kerfoot. They’ve got Backlund at 3C. We have to keep Kerfoot, and give Bennett the opportunity to see if he could the 3C reigns, or not. If he can’t, we need Kerfoot there, as the other options are simply not palatable. If instead Bennett makes a decent 2LW, then we’ve got Kerfoot on 3C.
if Bennett works out at 3C, then we have the option of moving Kerfoot and upgrading 2LW. Taylor Hall, Tanner Pearson...
Many roads lead to Rome. In your scenario, you are moving Dermott which could backfire if we lose one of our LHD to injury.
I suggested nothing of the sort. We have no idea of what Calgary is looking for a here, if they are prepared to move him. But I wouldn’t send Dermott or Kerfoot over.
Bennett has been used as Calgary's #9 forward this year.
#10 the year before.
#8 the year before that.
Can't hack it at center either.
And the Leafs have better forwards than the Flames.
Why do people think he will be an upgrade?

Barabanov, Vesey, Engvall, Petan. Need we say more ?
Sure I guess Bennett MIGHT be an upgrade on some of our press box guys there. $2.5m is expensive to upgrade the press box though.
Though give me Engvall's size and speed and defense over Bennett anyday.
We never ever trade young defenders for wingers ... NO NO NO ... it was our old recipe which never worked ... winger for winger with retention to make it work that's it ... they don't want Engval oh well no biggie ... we don't need Bennett ... other guys cheaper will be availableFrom what I have heard the Flames are asking for Dermott + "significant" piece so if it is not Kerfoot it is Dermott IMO. I doubt Flames are interested in any of our bottom 6 plugs for Bennett.

Sure if we get a sure fire VET defender who can play in NHL today like Tanev with Bennett plus retention to make it work for us and trade Dermy, Engval and Vesey great ... but even then trading young defenders who are really close to being top 4 guys for a LONG LONG TIME is very very risky ... sometimes you do a deal like that to win a Cup but in da end you end up losing more if you don't when Tanev gets washed up next year and Bennett wants his coin so we lose him too ...I prefer not to move Dermott at all cause we need depth on D but perhaps there could be a bigger deal where a dman also comes back. Who knows, all we can do is discuss.
