Remember what? The Soo applied.

As a Soo fan I feel pretty concerned they picked Saginaw over us right now, yup. Especially as someone who was very vocal posting on here saying our roster would be stronger this season and we didn't get a fair assessment due to injuries all season to our key players.
At the time the host was chosen, Saginaw was the best choice. At worst, Saginaw is T2 with Kingston as the most attractive city. They were the only one of four to make a significant add (Haight) to bolster their bid and make the playoffs. They had two stars in Sapovaliv & Misa.
And if Saginaw would have lost out to a team without a clearly better bid, there would have statements made about its US members not seen as equal to ON teams.

This doesn't make any sense...we are for sure hanging on to any and every good piece we have and we will be emptying the draft cupboard to add more THIS YEAR. No one cares about next year... My point is we have tons of assets that will return next year and we will either have the opportunity to be good again or start to rebuild but that's not my job to do, I just go to the games and enjoy the hockey.
This assumes the players you mentioned going the other way aren't significant contributors this year, regardless of age. I do think Saggy has traded themselves into a spot where they can do one more significant deal this season... what thay will be remains to be seen. They may have been a bit trigger happy knowing the Mem Cup is there.
No one is saying move a Parekh this year. In my example. I suggested a two part deal where Parekh goes the other way in the off season. You’d have your cake and eat it too.

My point was, you have more moveable assets than just Young, if he’ll waive the NTC, the few ‘06’s who’s value is debatable and the picks in your cupboard.

Again, you’re hosting. You’re already going to be in the tourney. Do you want to spend everything including the kitchen sink to build the best team possible (ie 2005 London host), or just be content to get somewhat better and being ok with having better odds of going in the back door - just so you may be good again next year.

Yes they’re gonna spend all they have to build a team. Because not only would they have a chance in winning the memorial cup, but the chl picked them to host over other teams such as soo and kingston. If they don’t go all out this year then 1- they’ll probably never get as good of a chance to win the cup. 2- they’ll never get selected again and 3- the usa won’t ever get the chance to host again.

Worst comes to worst they spend their life savings on players and it doesn’t amount to the cup- they’ll be trading players returning like Misa, Parekh, Hay, Willis to restock picks and players.

don't think a bad showing by 1 team will affect them all. I think what the OHL has to look at is will the team be able to perform at the high level.

Frankly, none of the teams looking to host were that great. Saginaw got it because they have stars that are marketable and it is the American market.

Hopefully, they turn it round. As to trades, I can see a trade with Ottawa in the future in return for last year's trade.

It will if they hypothetically don’t make the playoffs then get to go to the memorial cup. I don’t think that’s ever happened before.

If you’re talking about a trade for donoso. I can see them going after divinctiis for sure first, but if that’s too much I’d see donoso being a solid second option for them.

Outsider looking in but is there locker room troubles (egos). Seem familiar to Kitchener situation last year where they have all this preseason hype and start the season slow. Kitchener and Saginaw are effectively swap right now during preseason expectations.

I think that they are a US city with a big local sponsor are the only reasons they won the bid, it will be a long time from now before the MC returns to Flint/Erie/Saginaw so the fact Saginaw had a marketable bid this season was favourable for them; US teams will always been seen as not equal to their CAN counterparts hence why the MC doesn't go the US too often, but when opportunity arises, the league will jump all over that to grow the league south of the border

Saginaw was the best choice for location plus potential to put a competitive team together, and still is.

I’d put Saginaw at the bottom as far as venue/location goes. Would much rather see a MC in Kingston or Niagara but the talk of moving locations or the “host” team is ridiculous. We’re 13-14 games into the season. Lazary and Drinkell will figure stuff out and they’ll move up the standings. I don’t think they’re gonna be as good as I initially thought this year and I think they’re gonna have to spend more assets than I thought to get into the top 3 this year but they’re fine. I’d be stunned in the finish outside the top 4. What are they? Like 8pts out of first place with 55 games to go? Soo fans might wanna settle down just for a sec before throwing stones.

I know nothing of the venue honestly, but Niagara then Saginaw are the best locations for fans and media imo.

It happened in 1990. The Dukes of Hamilton (previously the Toronto Marlies now the Guelph Storm) were chosen to host the Memorial Cup in Hamilton. They were a terrible team that finished last in the league. The tournament stayed in Hamilton but the Dukes pulled out as participants and the Kitchener Rangers who lost the OHL final to Oshawa became the representative team. This was the reference to Hamilton in a previous post.

Oh! Thanks I didn’t know that. I think everyone can agree Saginaw is still a damn good team and they aren’t performing as they should. I don’t see them finishing last in the ohl by any means but that’s pretty cool so thanks for filling me in on that.

I believe the chl wanted to do this to bring attention to the chl from America and less to the ncaa and ushl and maybe find more American cities to flood the chl with.

Also Misa and Parekh are 2 big names. Misa exceptional status and the #1 for 2025 draft as of now. Parekh set a rookie goals record for defenceman in the whole league and is a projected mid first round pick.

With attendance extremely low this season across the OHL, I wonder what ticket sales are like currently.
I'm curious what % of tickets are held and set aside for the 3 other teams in the tourney and what % remians for the general public.

Sponsors also get a certain % of tickets allocated to them; setting aside a certain percentage for each team and the general public isn't possible as you can't discern one from the other, unless you're referring to the actual team itself having tickets allocated for them and their family/friends

London sent Ottawa 2-2nds and a 3rd for Henry Brzustewicz, Saginaw has that and then some. What would it take to get his brother from Kitchener? I see Henry is an 07 and probably can't be traded until January.

Double that and possibly a young player. They’ll only sell him if they’re sitting in 5th or lower at Christmas

I know Flint fans HATE Parekh but I think thier hate only makes him play better. Id love to see his points ppg against Flint vs everyone else. Reminds me of the old days of the rivalry

Kitchener keeps up the pace they might be in the Mem Cup with Saggy. ;) I doubt Saggy has enough in the cupboard to pick up the top Dman in the OHL and still be able to add to their roster after.
