Having a player who can win face offs is a key element to a teams success in the playoffs. Peterborough had three of the four top two centres in face off win percentage last season. Owen Beck and Tucker Robertson were one and two in this category and Jax Dubois was tied with Danny Zhilkin for third.
I don’t disagree with you however If they wanted to get someone just for faceoffs I’m sure there’s other guys in the league that can take faceoffs that would be cheaper.

Hay was excellent for a 16 yr old, good for a 17 yr old. He has another very good season ahead of him, maybe a superb OA season.
But Hay would not be the best defensive centre on most teams this season. He is tiers below Beck, Sapovaliv, Arnsby. I’d take Podolioukh at a significant discount over Hay as a rental. Lefebvre & Podolioukh could probably be had significantly cheaper.
Saginaw is burning through that well stocked pick cupboard faster than I expected, save something for the big fish at the deadline guys.

Last year Jax Dubois only had 7 goals and 18 assist for 25 points. He was however a good defensive forward who was tied for third in face off win percentage. To have three centres who were leading the league in face off win percentage was a key element in the Petes OHL Championship win. They were able to kill off most penalties they received and often prevented the opposition teams from gaining control of the puck.

With Saginaw using their only 2024, 2nd round draft pick in this trade they may have taken themselves out of the running for Owen Beck. I would have to believe obtaining a 2nd and 3rd for the upcoming draft is a top priority for the Petes.

Yes, this is now comparable to a number if other teams though.

Are some of those pucks not conditionals or don't exist because of the Fantili trade?

Also I'm not sure if you're using the ohl database sheets thing for your reference but I did notice it's wrong, or at least I think so. I screenshotted this at 10:15 am on the 25th ( the trade was announced at 10:00 am exactly ). It had never said you guys had your own 2024 2nd round pick in 2024 but in that trade you used a Sag 2024 2nd round pick, and as you can see the Kit 2027 pick is there that was used in the deal. It's odd.

Edit: I do see its just Sag 2024 2nd that was missing so likely a typo, all the other picks used in the deal were accounted for on the website before the update

Anyways by my count if we're using this site you have 5 2nds, 4 3rds, 5 4th left ( 2024 - 2027, 4 year window )

When you start comparing it... SSM has 3 2nds, 3 3rds, and 7 4ths. It doesn't seem like a big stockpile of picks anymore ( keep in mind both teams added already )

Right. Didn’t know if you could count 4 years AFTER 2024 draft or FROM 2024 draft. Figured 2028’s were in play because they were listed. Either way, no one’s used any so that makes no difference when counting stock piles. Guelph and Flint still only west teams that have more valuable picks.

And I don't think those 2 teams add, personally. I guess maybe Guelph.

Also trust me I've done that 100 times, Counted the 2028 year. I actually thought it was 5 years back still and forget they were phasing it in (6 years, 5 years, 4 years forever )

Guelph is in a spot where I think they have to add. They are built around pur 2004's. Even without Poitras. Next year they'll be weaker without Buchinger, Karabela, Bowman. Even having Namestnikov as an OA... they gratuate a lot of important players after thus year, with the next run in the cycle likely being built around '07's. Even if they trade Beauchesne, they look to have a strong '07 group and had a good draft with Snelgrove, Singh and McFadden. Just my opinion, and obviously it will depend on where they stand at the deadline. They have gone all in when in 4th place before...

Yeah that's why I said maybe Guelph. I totally agree with that.

Guelph is a little soft but otherwise very good. They may have the easiest path to #1 contender from the west.

Could Drinkell look at making another move this week. Certainly, the goaltending is weak at the moment with Oke out of the lineup. They're not getting much production from the fourth line. Right now this team appears to lack confidence, which will happen when they're struggling. Something needs to change soon before they fall further in the standings. Two of the losses this week were to teams ahead of them in the standings which doesn't help.

I think a little shakeup is in order, winners of 1 game in the last 7 and now sitting tied for 2nd last in the league doesn't bode well for the MC host team

Over the course of the season I will still take Saginaw over Flint! Let’s see where they finish.

Saginaw is going to blow everything to be competitive in a memorial cup.
And we're totally OK with that. Next year we should still have a solid core with Willis, Misa, Parekh, Hay and others and probably an OA goalie. The year after that we can trade those guys and recoup many of the picks we will trade away this year.

Misa is draft eligible after next year. Do you want to take the chance losing him if he goes straight to the show? It’s not out of the question.

If the intent is to eventually trade him, you may want to do that at the ‘25 deadline.

And if it’s decided that’s what you do, then maybe you go all in this year, so much so, that a player or two you’ve mentioned will be part of the solid core, are included in this year’s all in buy as the second part of two part deals.

Compare what Kitchener did with Kadri in the Mason deal. Maybe a Parekh goes the other way in the summer to a team slated to contend next year?

How bad do you want to win this year in Saginaw? Hanging onto pieces this year with the expectation you’ll be good next year, to maybe go deep? At the expense of not icing the strongest team possible in a host year?

I dunno. I think I’d go all in this year big time. Pull out all the stops.

This doesn't make any sense...we are for sure hanging on to any and every good piece we have and we will be emptying the draft cupboard to add more THIS YEAR. No one cares about next year... My point is we have tons of assets that will return next year and we will either have the opportunity to be good again or start to rebuild but that's not my job to do, I just go to the games and enjoy the hockey.

This assumes the players you mentioned going the other way aren't significant contributors this year, regardless of age. I do think Saggy has traded themselves into a spot where they can do one more significant deal this season... what thay will be remains to be seen. They may have been a bit trigger happy knowing the Mem Cup is there.
