Young tore it up during the 3 on 3 tourny today playing alongside Storch and Parekh.

Cloutier didnt score, but was absolutely relentless on the puck carrier defensively. Definitely ssomeone who can come in and play some 4th line this season.

Also during the 3 on 3 Cooper Boudreaux scored 2x with the same nice toe drag wrist shot snipe. Was a bit worried he was a nepotism pickup but he didnt look out of place at all.

Dont think Saginaw native Sammy Diblasi let in a goal either. Really looked like a young Lennox in net. Maybe not as high of a ceiling but could be a solid 3rd goalie this year as an affiliate player.

15th rounder Ferguson was as tiny as advertised. Can see what Drinkill ment by saying the skill is there size just the issue with him. He scored once and at one point flew up the wing and let off a Martin Frk style full cocked back slapshot from the circles. Kid has confidence at least lol
Cooper Bordeaux apparently performed really well at the OHL scouting combine so while I thought it was a nepotism pick too, sounds like he could be a possibility in future years. Maybe he has plans to go to college but who knows.

Translated quote from the article:

"The draft can change everything, but for now there are only two options. I will either stay in the USHL or move to the OHL where I was drafted last year by Saginaw. For now, I have no plans to return to Slovakia.”

So it’s sounds like he’s open to playing here but that’s not a super definitive statement. Leaves the door open for NCAA too. Someone mentioned we didn’t hold his rights any more. This quote seems to indicate we still do. Will be interesting to see if they go after someone else when the import draft rolls around.

I don’t think he can play in the NCAA anymore as he has already played pro in Slovakia. It’s likely he plays in the CHL, for whichever team holds his rights. If that’s Saginaw, then he is either there or they trade him.

Ah. Forgot about that. If they don’t have his rights anymore, he could be taken by someone else.

We'll know the answer to this quickly if the Spirit select "pass" on the import draft. That said, they might be drafting someone just in case Sapovaliv makes Vegas out of camp. I think he's probably good enough to crack the AHL squad but won't be eligibile to do that. If Misiak is still under our control, I think Sapo and Misiak are the two OA's for next season.

I don't like this trade...I really liked the way that Stewart plays and thought he would be one of the younger guys pushing for playing time this year. That said, it's a pretty good return for a guy who only put up 22 shots on goal during the season but it also shows that Barrie sees the same thing that I see.

Also, surprise surprise that Drinkell traded with Barrie.

As much as I like Stewarts game he wasnt going to crack the top 9 this season. Im sure he didnt want to be stuck on the 4th line getting <10 minutes a night in his draft year. Should be able to play alot more in Barrie to showcase himself. Drinkill definitely will move guys to allow them to showcase themselves (look at Cardwell) and i think that is a big reason Saginaw is getting a better rep with agents. Plus great assett management. Took a player in the 2nd last year, got a year of service time out of the player, and got a 2nd back plus a third.

Personally I would have prefered to move him along with picks for a big fish to play on a line with Misa and Haight but im sure something is coming

part 2 of the haight trade will see misa in BAR year after this one

can I get a more in depth scouting report? I see some pre draft 2022 rankings had him going 11th, 14th, 9th, overall etc. only 4 points in 41 games?

that being said, I watched this league enough years that some players can put up 4 points 1 year just to get 60 the next with more ice.

As far as a scouting report, there's not a lot to go on...it says he appeared in 41 games but he really only saw the ice for probably 30-ish games and in those games he only had a handful of shifts if that.
What I did like was that he seemed to have pretty good size and skated really hard. It's armchair coaching but I really thought he should have been playing ahead of Storch because we really needed more size on the ice. Like I said, he barely played but he always skated hard when he was out there.

There was a stretch during the end of the season when because of injuries he got some good playing time and played on a line with McNamara (6'2") and Sima (6'3") and that was a really good size line and created good opportunities. Lazary went away from that in the playoffs but I was looking forward to that line in the early part of the season (I've been on record thinking McNamara will get traded). I think he'll do very well in Barrie and I think he'll be one of those guys like Cardwell or Felhaber that goes on to score a lot of points for another team.

NHL draft starts tomorrow. Of the guys eligible for Saginaw, this is my guess:

Willis-Late 4th/early 5th
(Rest of these are long shots but have a chance)
Oke-possibly someone uses a 7th
Mancini-Maybe goes late 6th/7th
Loukus-same as Mancini

Guys in Saginaw pipeline to keep an eye on:
Ben Poitras-Currently 80 (NA skaters) by central scouting. Committed to Northeastern.
Martin Misiak-45 (EU skaters) by central scouting. Again don't know if we still actually have his rights. Will be interesting to see who takes him.

You forgot McNamara... He's going to get drafted... His measurables and speed is worth a later round pick... He was ranked 100 at the last rankings for NA skaters and that would typically be a ~5th round pick I would think... He's not going to go that high but he'll get drafted.

It's possible that someone takes a flyer on Oke... I thought he'd get drafted last year but I think it's more likely that he goes to a camp as FA invite (where a team needs goalies) and gets signed out of camp.

Willis should be the first off the board for us in that range you're talking about and if he's not I'd be very surprised.

I don't see the others getting drafted.

Yeah you're probably right on McNamara. Someone is going to see 6 foot 2 center and think "yeah lets try to make a 3rd or 4th line C out of this". Happened with Kea years ago. Unimpressive numbers but was still picked in the top 100 picks. Can't coach size I guess? (I hate that saying).
