Was just thinking last night Saginaw traded away thier leading scorers at both Forward and Defense for mainly picks (and Nick Sima) and still were able to make it out of the 1st round this year where everyone else still in the playoffs made moves to bring in talent. Not sure I've ever seen a team sell off so much and still advance
makes me think Saginaw knew they were likely getting the Memorial cup and rather than go for it this year... decided to wait for it next year which I completely understand..... next year misa will be a force. TBH I like London next year more than Saginaw.... but Saginaw will be a very good team too.

They were selling either way. They were never truly contenders for this season.

I agree London right now would have a slight edge over us next season but with us hosting, Drinkell has a blank check to close that gap.

I know Sarnia has some guys missing for games 1 and 2, but I do like that we’ve kept them to 5 goals so far. Credit to Lennox as well. This was the guy we’re were expecting injuries didn’t get in the way. Heck of a way for him to go out. Would be nice to steal a game at home.

imo Saginaw was a lot better than Sarnia at the start of the season.... I don't follow Saginaw at all really so you would know better... had Saginaw kept Pavel and the other guy they traded,,, sorry I forget his name,,,, and then added.... who knows how good they would have been In a year where the OHL was so wide open.

Bloom was the other. I still think they finish 4th if they kept both and likely still lose to a loaded Sarina team. It would be closer but would still favor the sting.

There’s no way they would have spent assets when you have Misa, Parekh, Willis, etc.

Parekh is really good...oddly good for a rookie to be honest... he's stood out a ton after 2 game.... always makes the right play and is a good shooter.... misa a bit of a ghost through 2 games but he's super young and no doubt he will be a 100 pt guy next year.

Trade window (picks only) opens up again before the upcoming priority selection. Saginaw has a few extra 2nds and 3rds in 23 that will probably be moved to later drafts so that they can used to bring in players next season. Looks like they have an extra 2nd and 2 3rds they can push out to 24, 25, and/or 26.

Based on the updated draft pick database, there are a couple teams that would make sense to do this type of deal with.

The Soo: they have a 3rd in 25, a 2nd in 26, and a 3rd in 26. Currently have no 3rds in 23 and only a single 2nd.

Oshawa: LOTS of 3rds in 25 and 26. No 3rds in 23.

Erie: A 2nd and 3rd in 26. They need a great 23 draft to have 07's to build around. Only have a single 2nd in this draft currently. Can recoup the 26's by selling off older player next year.

Unless they want to give us a discount on Brzustewicz in the off season now.
I posted the following on the Ranger board a little while back before the Memorial Cup host was announced:

Scenario:

-Saginaw is awarded the hosting duties.
-MM immediately goes into talks with Saginaw and the Brzustewicz clan.
-Henry Brzustewicz quietly makes it known that he’ll only play for Saginaw.
-Saginaw takes him in the 2nd round, the round he is currently ranked in (22nd).
-When the summer trade window opens, Rangers trade Hunter to Saginaw for the max return as they’d be getting a full year of his services.

The Brzustewicz clan is happy to have their brothers playing together. They’ll get a shot at winning a Memorial Cup. Saginaw is happy to have added a stud D for their run. The Rangers are happy as they’d be getting the biggest possible return in moving Hunter in the offseason instead of at the deadline

Then, to expand on these dealings with Saginaw, at the deadline, we move 1.5 years of Rehkopf to Saginaw for a massive package that would include the player they’ll take in the 1st round in this draft.

That gives Saginaw a stud sniper for their run who they can sell off in the next off season to start their rebuild.

That gives the Rangers a third player taken in the 1st round of this draft. Great way to start the rebuild!

I was just spitballing. But stranger scenarios have happened.

But Henry B is creeping up the rankings so we’ll see.

Central scouting final rankings

https://cms.nhl.bamgrid.com/images/assets/binary/343615614/binary-file/file.pdf (NA skaters)

https://cms.nhl.bamgrid.com/images/assets/binary/343616178/binary-file/file.pdf (NA goalies)

McNamara-100
Willis-174 (!)
Mangone-214
Oke-29 among goalies

Look, I like McNamara. Give him more ice time and his numbers are probably better. But having him 74 spots higher than Willis is peak Central Scouting and their love affair with size.
Totally agree...if I were picking my team, I'd take Willis for sure over McNamara. Luke has all of the measurables like size and speed but if there were a prize for shooting the puck in the goalie's chest, he'd take first prize. I've wanted McNamara to be good but I just don't see it and if it was me, I'd package him in a nice deal next year to get him a change of scenery and help bring in a big name.

Piggybacking on what evenstevens said, how about this trade:

Brzustewicz
Rehkopf

for

McNamara
Brown
2nd
(2) 3rds

No clue if that's the right value but Kitchener would get a NHL drafted player, young prospect and some picks and we'd get 2 point per game guys.

Rehkopf is going to cost someone's first round 07 so he'd be a deadline target if that's what we wanted.

The cost of Rehkopf alone will be something like an ‘07-1st and and 2, 3, 4 picks

Well that sucked but kind of figured we spent everything on the Flint series. That and Sarnia is just well built from top to bottom. Still a heck of a season. Way above and beyond what we were expecting.

We move right into the priority selection. First rounder will likely be BPA that we can sign. Not to be cynical but whoever we pick is most likely going to be dealt next January when we load up. Only exception to the this would be if we pick Moore. I’d be ok with taking him if he’s there for us. Can sit on him for a year and try and convince him to play his draft year with Misa. Will also be interesting to see which of us or Kitchener takes the younger Brzustewicz.

Then given your scenario, why does this 16th pick want to sign with Saginaw. What, maybe to be trade bait? Go talk to that players parents on that. Be very careful when you so blindly believe that you will magically bring it all together at the trade deadline. Go talk to Ottawa at this moment... 9 picks given up, down 1-3. Sometimes teams brought together at the trading deadline gel... sometimes they don't. I would prefer to make my trades early in the season to maintain continuity.

But... that's me, and that's you.

It’s not a guarantee they move their 1st this season. We do have alot of returning bodies that can be used for trades too. Was just being realistic about the situation. Had the same thoughts when we drafted Punnett originally. I prefer deals early too. They’ll do some early and then some at the deadline. For every Ottawa and Windsor, there’s Sarnia and the Petes. Nothing is guaranteed but if you’re going for it, you better go.

Correct, there but there isn't anybody on this present roster of value that I'd want to lose. I prefer to pick up a kid who can play and fit in right away then dangle picks. Two over ager's of value could make a difference. All predicated on Fullerton being a top goalie in the making.

But, if I pick up a kid at 16, I want him to be a Spirit and welcome him in.

In the 1st Saginaw selects Aiden Young. From Brock’s draft preview: “Possessing the two most transferable traits to succeed at the OHL level in skating and IQ should make for a smooth transition to developing into an OHL star.”

Sounds like a guy that could fit in well here.

Saginaw goes to PA (a state that has served them well) for their second pick Jacob Clouthier.

“He’s by-far one of the best transition pieces available in this draft, and can lead offensive transition with ease regardless of the situation. His ability to pre-scan with the puck on his stick in all 3-zones, evade pressure, and create space is one of his greatest strengths.”
