Yeah. He’s been pretty much this good for a month and a half. He’s been one of the few bright spots this year and just think….you’ll get to watch him improve for at least the next two more years. On another note, I want to point this out now while it’s one of the Flint players doing it. In the 1st period, Lombardi scores and turns and celebrates towards the fans. It wasn’t the worst and maybe there was some Flint fans there but I HATE that. We all know they’re just kids and all but when they do stuff like skating by the glass hand to their ear taunting opposing fans….? Save that for the Pro’s boys because you’re just asking for it.
The Wolves’ were not exactly sportsmanlike, the Petes’ turned that cele up a notch in 4th and final game. The OHL could adopt a scaled down NFL version of taunting, I think.

Honestly I’m cool with the celebrations. Especially since it’s a rivalry in the playoffs. It’s the big stage. 90% won’t ever see NHL ice. Talk your s**t. Have a little fun.

OMG! There are almost more Flint fans at the game than Saginasty! They were going up to their fans to get them pumped, watch the clip. Everyone in that corner was cheering when Lombardi scored. even if they do go to opponent fans then watch Saginaw do the same, all teams do it.

That doesn’t surprise me. I was gonna post that a couple times but I wanted to wait until it was a Firebird doing it. Like Kingpin said, I get his point and I don’t mind it much but then when s**t breaks loose it’s all “Oh, they’re just children and it’s a classless fan base” I can name a couple kids that just beg for it every time they score or do something.

Neither team has great goaltending, but any of these can can get on a roll. Monday should again be a really good game. Slight Advantage Saginaw only because it is at home for them. No matter what happens, both have had good seasons.

Probably 2 of the best the final 2 months of the season.

Define great goaltending... when the OHL style of play is too often leave the goalie on an island. If you had watched Quinnipiac win the NCAA tournament last night you would see what team defense and team discipline were all about. Lost on most OHL teams, because its all about offense and emerging stars. Those two goalies have stood on their heads.

No series in Round 1 has had the goaltending duel that this one has. Both have been phenomenal. To say otherwise would just show an extreme lack of hockey knowledge and ignorance.

However this goes down tonight, I’m still super happy with how the season has gone. Memorial Cup host, 4 seed. Above and beyond what I was expecting before the season began. Is it gonna hurt like hell if we lose? Yeah. Yeah it will. But before this series began I was afraid of Flint’s age and experience. One way or another we’re gonna learn what it takes to beat a team like that. Either we do it on the ice tonight or we learn it on film after. Been a heck of a ride with 3 OT games already. Good luck boys.

It has been a fantastic year for Saginaw. The Memorial Cup reward is such s blessing to this community, and well deserved.

It's funny you mention this as I was watching our Knights do it to the Owen Sound fans in Games 3 & 4 in Owen Sound. I'm not a big fan of it myself and would like to see the coaches put an end to it. As much as we say the league can change or create a rule I know for 100% that Dale Hunter if he wanted to could put a stop to it immediately in the Knights case. I'm sure all coaches are in the same situation.

Can't wait for the Memorial Cup, I'm confident Saginaw will do a great job with this historic tournament. Thinking of grabbing tickets and heading across the border to catch a game or two? Price will have a lot to do with it as we can see all the games on Sportsnet anyway?

Was just thinking last night Saginaw traded away thier leading scorers at both Forward and Defense for mainly picks (and Nick Sima) and still were able to make it out of the 1st round this year where everyone else still in the playoffs made moves to bring in talent. Not sure I've ever seen a team sell off so much and still advance

I think Willis/Parekh stepping up in the second half really lessened that blow. Once they started producing we had a solid top 6 at F and top 4 on D again. That can get you to round 2. You’re gonna need more to get farther but again we’ve already gone above and beyond what we all were expecting.

Don't forget that they also acquired Hunter Haight and James Guo. Here's a net-breakdown of the major in-year trades for the Spirit:

Spirit Traded:
Bloom
Hislop
Mintuykov

Spirit Got:
Haight
Sima
Guo
(2) 2nd Round
(4) 3rd Round
(1) 4th Round

I'd say well done by Drinkell to get these moves for the future and well done by Lazary to get these guys to the 2nd round!

I really like the play of Guo. I think that was a big win for the Spirit.

Agreed...he fits in well with our system but I also miss the toughness that Gauvreau brought to the table. Guo fits the smooth skating defensemen that we like but only recently have I seen him get very offensive. He's only going to get better and more confident. Spirit will have to bring in some toughness next year though...can't get pushed around like we are in the playoffs next year.
